Personally I think someone at Humble Bundle made a mistake. VPX 11 from Humble Bundle did not come with any third party plugins supplied when that was offered.

Ray.

@CubeAce Wasn't VP X11 where they introduced VEGAS image stabilization? IIRC, it was the only option at that point. Then in VP X12 they included the full Mercalli Suite, according to the MAGIX update history below.

@Photo_G

Hi.

It was introduced then but the old stabilization plugin was not taken away at that point. In fact because of that I now have all of them in XPX 12 as I have the MC V5 suite from MEP.

They all appear in Vegas Studio 16 as well.

@CubeAce I don't have VP16 installed anymore, but do have VP17, and TP7 worked flawlessly and fast.

@Photo_G As for HB and Mercalli 5 Suite with a $25 purchase, I don't think so. When you get the file to download, it says HumbleBundle in the file name you have to execute. I've never seen "bonus" content delivered with either Vegas or Video Pro X in Humble Bundle offerings. Usually, that is stated somewhere in the text. And yes, Magix is sponsoring this.... these are not the current software offerings of Magix, and they have done this before with other products. How else are you able to register the software with Magix?

Photo_G wrote on 3/8/2022, 9:50 AM

@Reyfox You're right, I'm sure. Thanks. Do you know whether we'd get the proDAD key with a VPX13 upgrade?

CubeAce wrote on 3/8/2022, 10:30 AM

@Photo_G

If it is still on offer on the website then it would have to be yes as they are advertising it as worth over $1,000 as a bundle. They can't do that if if the bundle wasn't included. There are no restrictions or clauses mentioned about upgrading over buying new. The Humble bundle offers count as a new registration and you have one year of contractual help and updates (not that there would any of them left for that version) as well as upgrade offers.

[Edit] Do be aware that by upgrading you will lose the MC V2 as the V5 is strictly speaking its replacement.

The Editor loads fast enough as does any template loaded. It only slows down if I change anything within a template and that is when the Intel GPU kicks in. It works, doesn't crash, it's just slow. Just one time when having an Intel inboard GPU is a disadvantage I guess. Even outside of the programs running on its own it is the same. All my OFX based effects are the same. Swings and roundabouts. I only use these programs for main titling most of the time Boris Titler for instance worked faster in MEP 2020 than it does now. I personally feel the Infusion engine III has not lived up to expectations and is possibly the cause of all the major bugs we have seen. Although having said that there is little difference between Engine II and III in those scenarios of title editing with third party plugins with the exception of the Magix offering on my system.

There are no more updates for VPX12. The version that we all have is it.

As for upgrading, yes you can. I keep getting bombarded with the "upgrade" notices from Magix for VPX13. I bought HB Vegas Pro 14 several years ago, and from that, I was able to upgrade to Vegas Pro 15 Suite at the upgrade price.

@CubeAce maybe diable iGPU and see if the results change with working with TP7. For me, no problems at all doing anything with TP7 in Vegas or Resolve.

As for Infusion III, you would be better with that. I do have MEP2022 with it, but during editing (outside of the lack of 10bit support), it performs the same as VPX11 without it.

Hi,

Do you know whether we'd get the proDAD key with a VPX13 upgrade?

VPX13 currently does not include Mercalli as it includes NB TotalFX, which you already have. Wait for a new offering from Magix with something better, like Mercalli Suite v5...and they fix more bugs in 13.

@browj2 yes, TFX7 for $49USD was a "steal" if you ask me. I have no idea how much money they made on it, but it certainly benefits the consumers. I think Magix is trying to get MEP/MS/VPX to be more "visible" by offering this.

As for Mercalli V5 Suite, when I bought it (at a really really low price) for Vegas, it also came with Magix serial numbers too. I've not had a need yet to use it. The IBIS in my G9 is excellent, and after all the years of shooting video from SVHS to today, learning how to stand and even pan has paid off. Looking at a DJI Ronin SC gimbal.

CubeAce wrote on 3/9/2022, 3:32 AM

@Reyfox

Independent research has said that offered Humble Bundle offer have neither a negative or positive impact on sales but does have a small impact on lowering pirated copies of such software.

HumbleBundle themselves say that despite the low cost of such bundles their servers still get hacked and keys stolen which explains why sometimes we see people on here saying that their HumbleBundle software will not activate with the supplied key on their purchases. HumbleBundle in those cases often pay for a new key for the affected person assuming that if someone really can't afford the lower price they must be desperate. How much of this is true is difficult to verify but seems reasonable.

@CubeAce there are several people that I know personally that have upgraded their HB versions of Vegas Pro to the current upgrade versions. I was one of them. Vegas was never on my video editing radar. Ugly and confusing interface. But when Vegas 14 Edit was on HB, I gave it a try. Two weeks later, upgraded to VP15 Suite. The companies make money on items sold that have been discontinued/replaced that are collecting "dust" on their servers. The R&D has been already done. The money has been spent. And since it's the last version, a lot of bugs have been squished. Now, someone can get a full version of the software with a legal license to use it and usually have full upgrade privileges to go with it.

To me, that's a winning situation for software companies. Still making money on older software, and maybe enticing those users to buy the "new, more modern, more bling" software.

I've bought software over the years from HB and so far, never a problem with a bad key. I usually download, install and register the same day.

One more "head's up" on this HumbleBundle package. The included FXhome Ignite Keying & Flares appears to be tied to Video Pro X, possibly only to version 12. It doesn't load on any of my other NLE's.

As a test, I just opened up Movie Edit Pro 2022 and I was able to apply an "Ignite Audio light Flare" effect on an imported JPG. I was able to animate the rotations of the flares on that image and export the result to an HEVC MP4 640 x 480 video file. The resultant video did not have anything on there that indicated any kind of demo version.

The "Ignite Audio light Flare" effect is from “Ignite Keying and Flares” that I installed form the HumbleBundle purchase.

So it, at least, works on Movie Edit Pro 2022 build 21.02.130

I'm sure your personal experience is correct and not exclusive. However I look for trends and sales figures.

The top performing NLEs in order of sales at present are.

Adobe

MAGIX

CyberLink

Corel

Apple

Sony (By which is meant Vegas as sales were calculated separately from the Magix software offerings).

Avid

FXhome

TechSmith Corp

Nero

Movavi

Wondershare

That is overall sales and not broken down further by type of user.

I too am surprised Blackmagic isn't on the list. But they also "give" away their Studio version when you buy their cameras.

I am surprised to see Magix high up on the list. And Corel, does that include all their software? And why Sony when they haven't been involved in Vegas for 5 years now.

When trying to find out sales figures, there are a ton of sites with "best", which is subjective and "who" paid for the review.

The cost of a report in the thousands? I'm not that interested in the total sales numbers..... just want a good editor that works with the least amount of fuss.
