So, I'm back to the old Magix Doublespeak problem. The new Infusion 3 Engine promo on the Magix website says that it gives an improvement in encoding "with Intel i7 6700 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070."

So does that mean that I have to have an Intel i7 6700 iGPU to obtain faster results? (I saw a post by Ray above, who has the same GPU as mine (GTX1650 Super). He says that MEP 2022 works with the Super. But not appreciably faster than earlier versions.)

Started with MEP 11, then 17, then MX, then MEP 2013, 2015, then 2016. Changed to the fast competitor after that, which worked fine with my non-Intel hardware. Then bought a used Dell with an Intel GPU, just to play with MEP again. Installed MEP 2020 Plus in March 2020, even tho I don't like losing patches if I have to reinstall after a year.

Testing on a Dell Vostro, <s>i3-8100</s> updated to i5-9400 w/ UHD 630, 16 GB 2400 DDR4 (CL15), Win10 Home, heavily NTLite'd. Now with GTX-1650 Super OC'd. Added a WD Blue M.2 for OS (PCIe 3), Apps, Temps and Video-In. 2 Monitors. A WD Blue SSD for outputs. (SATA III.)

@pmikep

Greetings, the only answer that I can give you is that my system has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 2060 and NO repeat NO Intel chip and encoding to MP4 and HEVC is blisteringly fast with MEP 2022 compared to with MEP 2021.

With MEP 2021 I was lucky to encode at 1:1 i.e. a 30 minute video with littte effects took about 30 minutes - it usually was much more. Yesterday I did a 45 minute video with sharpness, gamma and resizing of some clips and that encoded in just over 18 minutes, admittedly not in full HD.

I'm afraid I'm not savvy enough to know if your GTX 1650 will do the same for you but I do know that not having an Intel chip does not handicapped me any more.

Hi Mike.

When I said not appreciably faster it isn't much faster for me but it is faster and nearly all my stuff is less than fifteen minutes, in 4K, has multiple tracks running, and often a few composite effects. You will lose the ProDAD image stabilizer in the 'upgrade', which may be of more concern.

Certainly those with Turing based nvidia cards with 6GB of vram and an Intel GPU HD 630 seem to get faster exports.

I would back up my system, install the trial version of 2022 to test your your Two Minute Tech Tip Torture Benchmark. But, IIRC, Trial versions of MEP are limited to 3 minute exports. (Even if they allow full Hardware Encoding.)

Oh well, no rush. I'll wait for the bug count to settle down before considering "upgrading."

Greetings

Now that I'm getting used to the differences between MEP 2021 and 2022 I don't appear to have any problems.

I completed all my projects before upgrading and, apart from the hiccups at the start, all is going better for me with 2022 that it did with 2021.

From the start I had a problem with importing some pictures into 2022, as detailed earlier in this thread, but that seems have mysteriously sorted itself out whether by the recent MEP update or the latest Nvidia drivers or by the latest Windows update. I don't know but image import is OK now.

There's the export to MP3 audio bug but I've only ever done that rarely so that doesn't bother me. Export to WAV works.

I found the rotation/image size/crop/ and the associated bits a faff and didn't like it at all at first. Perseverance has paid off and it's now second nature to use.

And of course there's the hardware exporting that I've waited years for. Brilliant.

I don't honestly think I'd go back to version 2021 unless some hidden thing in 2022 crops up that bites me.

I noticed that in MEP 2022, many of the intro/outrro choices are no longer in the list of choices. For example, the old movie countdown, birthday, and red curtain are gone. I used them frequently in my projects in the past. Were they permanently deleted? If so, can they be restored?

Love the faster processing speed. However I find that with the new 2022 version of "MEP" that sometimes when you LEFT-click the + or - buttons in the lower-right corner of the timeline to zoom the software acts as if I RIGHT-clicked it instead and brings up the context-sensitive menu rather than just zooming the timeline!

This bug is driving me crazy as I'm always clicking on the +/- icons while working on the timeline!

You cannot tick any of those boxes because all the additional content is already installed, according to that screenshot.

I have no idea at all why those intros/outros you want are not showing. By any chance, have you installed any of the content that is not part of the core program (i.e. anything that is NOT in Program Files) in a non-standard location? At the moment that is the only thing I can think of which could mean the program cannot find them. Like Ray, I see all those elements listed on my screen.

I've not had the +/- issue possibly because I very rarely use them but I'll look at it when I'm near my 'pooter next.

One thing I have noticed that is mouse related is that the mouse pointer, more often than not, does not "catch" the sliders, for example - sharpness, and it sometimes takes a double click to be able the move them.

I use a wireless mouse so this could be the problem but as it works well with other programs, be they music or graphics, I'm leaning towards an MEP 2022 problem.

It's not Earth shattering, just an irritation. I double click them now impulsively.

Hi Ray

When I said not appreciably faster it isn't much faster for me but it is faster....

I have noticed from your recent TM screenshots of the Nvidia Card during exports, that there does not appear to be any activity reported (in the graphs to the right) for Video Encode, which in the earlier Infusion Engine 2 versions in VPX signified processing on the NVENC hardware chip.

Have you perhaps hidden the appropriate graph or is it not selectable from the dropdowns - normally it appears when the NVENC encoding engine is active? Alternatively GPU-Z utility shows it as Engine Load separate from GPU Load

It is possible that the Infusion engine 3 does not use this during encoding and I do not yet have a version of MEP2022 or VPX13 installed to check.

Maybe someone who is getting faster AVC and HEVC exports can confirm?

@Scenestealer

Hi Peter.

I think I said at one point I had never known any previous version of MEP to be so dynamic in it's use of resources. I know I mentioned ram usage dynamically changing but that includes which GPU is doing what depending on what is happening at the time during the export. The nvidia card certainly does both during exporting but not all the time. It is also doing it during mp4 and HEVC exporting but by differing amounts and at different points along the timeline for the same project.

Note the export shown is for an mp4 file.

I have found the program to be very project and export sensitive in that respect. Occasionally running a project has tripped an export with a 'The (A/B) GPU has been disabled. Check you are running the latest drivers' warning, which if I save the project and exit. Reload MEP and change my GPU settings back to what they were before the warning happened and then load the project again, it normally ends up with a normal export with no problems. This has only happened on older projects and it may be an old setting was not correctly read. I don't know. I am no longer (touch wood) encountering the problems I had before with older projects not saving.

It is certainly no worse than MEP2021 on my system and some aspects I certainly prefer, but I do worry that maybe the next incarnation of the program may leave a part of my system wanting.

I agree with this, the use of various effects can have an effect on the render speed and which GPU is/should be used, there is no one setting fix all for obtaining the fastest export every time.

The error message 'The (A/B) GPU has been disabled. Check you are running the latest drivers' warning' is a generic error message and does not necessarily mean there is a driver issue - something in the render process has tripped this HWA 'switch'.

I am suspecting the rotate, size / position effects in the older projects is not being read properly due to them being separate effects in old projects. Once projects are re-saved the problem goes away.

Well that certainly seems to be giving all aspects of the card's processing ability a good workout and is heading for one half realtime encode duration. What was happening on the timeline in respect of effects, etc. at 56 secs and 46 frames when the SS was taken?

Interesting that there was so little activity on the CPU at that point.

Why do you have so many tracks with the same clip and no effects (like P in P) applied?

Hi Peter.

Sorry to confuse you. That setup there was just answering another persons query with his sound problems using my own clips to try to recreate his problem. It just so happened it triggered that GPU use when exporting so I used it as an example. It's not an example of one of my actual projects where some parts give the same usage of the nvidia GPU.

Thanks Ray.....I understand....nevertheless, what was occurring that triggered the "Video Encode" activity?

@emmrecs

Hi Peter.

Exporting to either mp4 or HEVC where the parts have no effects involved at all. Can include cross fades or cuts. Source files are mp4. I don't use any other type of files for projects any more apart from jpgs and audio files that are mainly wav files or ogg or mp3. Resolution or frame rate of files have little impact.

I've not had the +/- issue possibly because I very rarely use them but I'll look at it when I'm near my 'pooter next.

Someone came up with the idea that this is a "feature" to aid touch-screen users...if you hold the + or - buttons for longer than a fraction of a second it does a right-click on the icon instead of a left-click. Unfortunately this fraction of a second is too short compared to normal mouse clicking. None of my other programs do this, and really it should be a feature enabled in Windows IF you are a touch-screen user (which I'm NOT) rather than the individual software.

Now trying to find if there's a setting withing Movie Edit Pro 2022 to disable this "feature", aka BUG!

Hi Mike.

I do not have a touch screen and I can't get the program to do what you are experiencing.

The only possible difference I can think of is I normally increase the speed of the double click of my mouse to open folders in my mouse settings. I normally click twice in well under a half second.
