I've found another little quirk / bug(?). For many versions of MEP when exporting an edited projext, the "Don't play out" dropdown in "Play after export:" didn't make any difference. In MEP 2021 it did actually work on my system..

In MEP 2022, if I export the HEVC, the "Play after export" is greyed out and the exported video video does indeed "Don't play out".

If I export to H.264 MP4, the "Play after exit" is available and "Don't play out" does plays out.

Another odd thing, and I don't know if it's me the program or my mouse, is that at random times the preview screen changes to full screen mode. It's vaguely annoying to say the least..

Hi Andy. That function has never worked on my system ever.

I have had the program jump about a quarter way onto the next screen a couple of times or slightly off screen.but no size changes. If you are only using one screen maybe it's the same thing?

I can confirm the monitor within MEP 2022 loses the ability to show video once I try to edit sound using the audio cleaning function.

Could you be hitting Alt+Enter ?

Alt+Enter toggles the view from full screen to normal, you can also get out of fullscreen mode using the Esc key.

The don't play out has not worked correctly for many years.

Double-clicking on the Preview Monitor also causes it to go to full screen.

Thanks, but I like to think I would notice pressing 2 keys or even double clicking the preview screen.

ps Honestly, MEP 2021 on my system did not play out with HEVC or MPG. I can't check my sanity now as 2021 isn't on my machine. I hope someone else can confirm my memory.

I've had to reinstall 2021. Having serious issues rendering MPEGs with 2022, particularly in 3D. I also had to turn CPU and GPU rendering off. It's not a problem with 2021.

You don't know how glad I am to see another person have the same problem. I'm sorry you are having the problem but relieved it could be a bug or possibly a hardware deficiency somewhere.

When you shut down the program, does the project disappear but the project name remain in at the top of the program?

I notice when I load MEP 2022 the Task manager will look like this.

Now the projects that show in the 'Load existing project' have either loaded OK and played and saved OK with the program shutting down after, or I have managed at some point to get the project to save OK and shut down the program whereas before it didn't. Dalek scratch build is one such project that changed while the Cubase one was always OK. I have no idea what I did to the program that suddenly behaved itself. Actually I'm not aware of changing anything.

Now If I load a new project that isn't going to let the program shut down after such as this one.

And then close the program, the program remains open but I can choose to add a new program and I get this choice.

If I choose 'Add new project' it loads but I get this.

No sign in the timeline editor that two projects are open and I don't know why. Nor why the program thinks it adding a project rather than just opening one.

Argh!

Adding anything new to the timeline of a project that doesn't allow the program to close adds these items.

But the project at least saves and those two items don't show on the next opening.

It is really frustrating.

Yep, almost all you've outlined tic the boxes. The last two, I just haven't taken notice of, so they may or may not be present on my system.
Last year I found MEPP 2021 to have a some minor interface bugs that were somewhat irritating; I waited and waited for MAGIX to push out some update patches but for what I estimate to be about 9 months no patches were released. I checked almost every day. How many updates did MEPP 2021 receive last year after its official release? Two... three, at the beginning maybe? Next thing I knew 2022 dropped.... And seemingly half-baked. The point is, that's not enough or adequate. Very disappointing.
I hope it doesn't take MAGIX 9 months again to release some very needed patches to this current release of the software. I'll have to use an alternative editor until them.

Just putting together a family DVD for an ancient relative and I'm a little surprised that MEP 2022 is not using my GeForce 2060 GTX card for Hardware acceleration. I new it was all too good to be true.

So now I have a choice. Either buy her a new TV that can play MP4s or continue with the DVD for the next hour or so. Hmmm?

"Calculate effects on your GPU: To accelerate the export, video effects can be calculated on the graphics card. At this time this applies to brightness, gamma, contrast, color, saturation, image size, cropping and position effects as well as various fades and mixes. Please note that external effect plugins and elaborate artistic effects must be processed on the CPU and for this reason using this function will not yield any speed advantage.

Note: This function is specifically optimized for NVIDIA graphics cards. You can, however, experience acceleration with other types of graphics cards, too".

Ive got nothing showing there, nothing in the drop down menu. I'm sure nothing showed there in MEP 2021. Does that matter?

It's just with burning DVD and also saving to mpeg2. HEVC and H.264 are blisteringly fast.

Hi Andy.

It's just that to get my nvidia card to export at all I need the program to be on the monitor powered by the nvidia card but the other monitor must be plugged into my Intel HD 630 and show up in that box for the nvidia card to active for export. I don't burn DVDs to see if it makes a difference so can't help on that bit.

I don't have the complication of 2 graphis chips/cards so that probably explains the greyed out pull downs.

I also don't normally burn DVDs these days, but the future ancestor has my old player and she's really chuffed so I can't let her down.

It's not really a problem, it just came as a surprise that hardware acceleration seems to be only on MP4s until I played a little bit more and found that even my old faithful Avidemux only accelerates MP4 so I'm reasonably happy again.

Reading your quote from the manual I'm surprised that Magix offer 3rd party effects that don't use acceleration. The "free" 3rd party effects seems to be their biggest incentive to people to buy MEP. And they don't work with acceleration?

I now have 193 3rd party effects for MEP on my system, at a rough estimate I use around 4 regularly. It's a good job I didn't pay for any of them with them all being free 😀 - allegedly.

Hi Andy.

A lot of the high end Pro effects rely of CPU processing more than dedicated graphics cards. Boris Effects, most of their plugins rely on CPU grunt and lots of ram. It's possibly easier to program for a CPU than competing shading technologies of dedicated graphics cards.I don't know but I do know some production houses locally use servers for video number crunching.

I am wondering how people using non media orientated laptops are going to find this experience.

Please note the following from the MEP2022 requirements:-

INFUSION Engine 3 supports video acceleration for AVC and HEVC on Intel, NVIDIA or AMD GPUs with 1 GB VRAM or higher

No mention of Mpeg2 there!

Ray - I believe the section of the manual you quoted has been there since the year dot and is referring to the processing of effects using DX accelerations via the shaders (Cuda cores) on the cards, where as the accelerations Andy is experiencing with AVC and HEVC are via the Nvidia NVENC encoder chip.

Whilst MPEG2 encode can be accelerated via this chip (Edit - actually not according to Nvidia) it is possible that this has not been implemented in MEP/VPX - just as H.264 encoding via Nvidia NVENC has only been enabled in the latest versions of the programs.

Andy - As far as I know, in MEP the Intel GPU can accelerate MPEG2 via Quick Sync but this does not help you...

The manual is still in need of some updating as there is reference to it being the Infusion engine II in there but does talk about the Infusion Engine III.😉

I am wondering about that because if I set my system up the other way around to the way I described earlier the export is a lot slower and the nvidia card does not kick in on any exports. The Intel GPU works a lot harder but is not as fast, nor is the program as smooth when it runs. Nor can I get the nvidia card to work in the bottom export section warning me it has been deactivated and that perhaps I don't have the correct driver warning.

Actually they do, but for preview and not necessarily for export - like New Blue - you can turn GPU acceleration off in the NB Program manager if you have display problems during preview.

I have always found prior to MEP 2022 (which I do not have yet) - on my system, that having the Nvidia selected in the program settings for "Display in the arranger" gives smoother preview and faster exports. At this point I am not sure how the old settings relate to the new Hardware Acceleration box in 2022 Program settings.
