Hi Ray,

I would be very wary of them as any that say Sony Vegas and mean versions 14 and up are probably pirated.

On the Vegas forum, the Vegas team has made it clear that they do not want to be referred to as "Sony." There is a sticky mentioning the difference (Sony Vegas up to version 13). Often, users of "Sony" more recent versions of Vegas are questioned by members as to where they purchased it and, in some cases, to demonstrate that they do not have a pirated version.

The VEGAS team want to be referred to as VEGAS Creative Software - branding. See the Vegas website, About.

I'm not disputing what Magix wants John. Just what the internet throws up.

Yep: Don't worry about it. The mods close Vegas threads quickly and I don't get to read many of them beforehand.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

One solution I would suggest would be to have the web designers put another box alongside the others at the top with VEGAS in it that then took them to the Vegas Website. I say this because most people seem to search the top boxes for a product line but then not the stickies posted in each product page.

The Vegas forum also gets posts that should be here and sometimes for non video products!

browj2 wrote on 4/23/2021, 6:06 AM

I have asked Magix to put this at the top of the text for a new post, "This is not the Vegas products forum. For the Vegas products forum, including Vegas Movie Studio, click here." However, given that many users don't even bother to read any of the instructions there, like not putting personal information, like serial numbers, in a thread, etc., I don't hold out much hope.

@ericlnz

Hi Eric,

There are 4-6 Vegas posts per day in this forum, maybe 1 per month about non-Vegas Magix products on the Vegas forum.

I don't understand how these people think that this forum is the place for Vegas.

  1. There is nothing here to indicate that this is the forum for Vegas. There are no boxes for Vegas in the top menu under Video or in the drop down category of a new post.
  2. There are threads with Vegas in the title that are closed and have an instruction about where to go. One would think that a new poster would at least read one or two posts about Vegas first or do a search for Vegas. The person who posted about Vegas last night did so with this current thread as the top thread. How could he not see this?
  3. There are messages under Important Posts, in bold and capitalized, indicating that, "THIS IS NOT THE VEGAS PRODUCTS FORUM, PLEASE READ HERE FIRST." One would think that a new poster would at least look at the screen before posting, especially since there is nothing to indicate that this forum has a Vegas component.
  4. Upon selecting Vegas on Magix.com, there is a redirection to the Vegas page, vegascreativesoftware.com, with no link back. The Support page there links to the Vegas forum, not to this forum.
  5. In the Vegas programs, under Help, Vegas Community, the link goes to the Vegas forum, not here.

I think that all Vegas posters should be given the above information and asked how it is, after all of that, that they still posted in this forum. Maybe we'll learn something. I'm hopeful that there are many Vegas users who actually looked at the screen and then went to the correct forum. But for the rest...?

Hi John

. . . . I don't understand how these people think that this forum is the place for Vegas . . . .

I suspect it is because many Vegas users still associate the program as being 'Sony Vegas' and not just 'Vegas' or 'Magix Vegas'

For those who have the Vegas software from Magix and it is working there is a click under Help to go direct to the correct forum - how many know that?

I agree we should ask every poster how they came to the wrong forum - we may be lucky and get a few replies.

I have changed the titles of the 2 Important posts to see if this helps.

I haven't noticed many non-Vegas posts on Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio parts of the English forum. I haven't checked the German forum here or there. I did do a search for PhotoStory and Xara and there are very few, about a dozen each over the last year, all on one page. SoundForge gets much more as it is a legacy Sony product that many Vegas users would have, and it's bundled with Vegas. Compare that with what happens on this forum about Vegas; a search for just the last year brings up 42 pages. So there is clearly a big problem here, not on the Vegas forum.

What may be happening is that some users get a HumbleBundle or a Fanatical package containing both a Vegas Product and PhotoStory and Xara. If Vegas Movie Studio is their main product, then they may go first to the Vegas forum, especially if it's their first post. See here for the current Fanatical offering mixing Vegas Movie Studio with PhotoStory and Xara.

Hi Eric,

No, I still only see about 1 per month in English in Vegas - exclude French and German, and only count the original post, not the replies. I only checked for PhotoStory and Xara. Movie Edit Pro will add some, but I haven't noticed many in the context of help for MEP, usually for information about the differences between MEP and a Vegas product. I don't see that there is even close to the same problem on the Vegas forum.

I have to admit that my 42 pages of Vegas included French and English, but not German. No, wait, I just checked English only and got 42 pages with threads containing Vegas, overall as well as 42 pages just for the last year.

Hmmm. I turned on German, English and French and still got 42 pages total and 42 pages for the last year. It seems that 42 pages is the limit that Search will do. That would mean that there are actually more than 42 pages of Vegas threads in English for the last year.

At 24 per page, that gives 1008, divided by 2 = 504, less a few where there was more than one reply, gives about 500 or more than 1.3 per day as a minimum.

My observation is that the rate is increasing. Take a look at the last 3 days in English only.

Take a look under Movies, English only for the first page. Not counting the Important Posts, there are 24 threads, 10 of which are locked because they are about Vegas, I expect, and there are at least 3 that are not locked but about Vegas. That is more than half of the posts! This is a problem.

I just noticed that with English and French turned on, a search for Vegas only turns up mostly English threads, with only a few in French. Strange. Turning off English gave me 31 pages total, 10 pages for the last year.

If you turn on French only, you'll find many threads about Vegas, most of them answered by Dédé with no reference to the Vegas forum because there is no French language part, only English and German. I did ask on the Vegas forum at one time for French to be added, but it was decided that French users could just post in the English part. That does not make sense to me.

German only, gives 32 pages total for Vegas, 9 pages for the last year.

It is indeed no problem at the german page....

Otherwise the way to reach support e.g. is for a newe user comülicated - in the german sector you need 8 or 9 pages to reach the target.

May be the the english way is in a way complicated too.

It seems a trend between online companies to make contacting technical or departments for refunds, change of supplier, increasingly difficult to find.

Think Amazon to stop a subscription or most internet providers.

The first user forum I saw online from a manufacturer was Fuji that had Fuji employees as moderators. Those moderators gradually diminished when they found volunteers to take over and seems to have become the model to follow ever since. I can't see that ever being reversed with the cost savings involved. What really needs to happen here in my opinion is for the forums to merge onto one site.

@CubeAce

Hi Ray,

Won't happen. Magix is branding Vegas Creative Software as a separate entity.

@wabu

Hi Walter,

I think that redirecting Vegas users to the Vegas forum is a problem on the German forum as well, but not as big as in English.

We should not be directing Vegas users to Magix Support, but rather to the Vegas forum. Users there will direct users to Magix Support, if necessary. The Vegas forum, under Support, has answers to Frequently Asked Questions specific to Vegas.

As for getting to Magix Support, the methods are the same in all languages, but really not that difficult (it takes me 25 seconds only because I have to type in a subject). Users do not seem to like reading what is on the screen and following instructions. They do not like to look at Frequently Asked Questions to see if an answer is already there. They want to to talk to someone, but they are incapable of writing down or even verbalizing the basic requirements for someone to understand their problem. Many of them do not even know what program they have, or if they do, they do not indicate what it is. I am not optimistic.

@browj2

Hi John.

What would happen if we ignored all Vegas queries do you think?

It doesn't take anyone long to find anything if they know the system. To anyone not familiar it's difficult. Most people are casual users. A bit like owning a car. Most can drive but few can repair and some can't even change a tyre or battery.

Web design should be made so it's easy to find what you want.

If you want to buy from Magix, that's easy.

Want a refund and that gets a lot harder to find. Yes it's explained in the terms and conditions, but few will read that.

Doesn't matter who you deal with, across the board it is getting harder over time to interact with such companies.

@CubeAce

Hi Ray,

See my list at 07:06 above. Given all of that, how is it that so many Vegas users show up here? The system is designed to get them to the right forum. It seems that most either wilfully ignore what is in front of them, or there is some other reason why they end up here.

The method used to point Vegas users to the correct forum and locking the thread is better than not replying. Today's requests to Vegas posters by John EB may help throw some light on why Vegas users show up here. However, I would like to ask them how it is, after showing them the list that I posted, that they still posted here?

Even though Walter and I did it, we shouldn't mix Vegas users posting here with getting Magix Support. That is a different issue except in that I think that many users don't bother looking at the screen or reading what is right in front of them.

Unfortunately, Vegas users have not responded how they came to this forum, even though the posts are unlocked. 😅
