no audio for mov files

I'd put money on the LAV decoders being responsible. The question is, how did they get onto your system?

And could you just confirm you can get audio on those ProRes files with no extra codecs installed on your machine?

Based on Al's printout of Gid's codecs, I looked for and found this:

Installed all threel Batch Files (with Admin rights) and now the Prores MOV works in MS2024 perfectly, I can even load in an AVI encoded with HuffYUV and PCM I've had for ages that MS2024 has steadfastly refused to open before.

It's amazing how a little bit of info from so many comes together - thanks to all.

@AAProds Yep, all .mov's load with audio, I've tried other peoples files in the past that just don't load at all for whatever reason but as far as i remember all my .mov's load with audio (& all I've downloaded & loaded in this thread), If I have problems with .mov's it's the video not audio , . 🤷‍♂️

LAVFilters is related to video playback for some players, the one I’m familiar with is MPC-HC

I have MPC player installed, no idea if that is related 🤷‍♂️

These are the options in MPC player's Options.

That is highly likely, a quick look at the MPC player source code resources, it does install the LAV filters.

I installed LAV filters to have a look and lo and behold, the dreaded Frame Salad effect came back, where with the Lagarith AVI files, you get random frames from other parts of the video showing up in the wrong places.
