Hi,

I don't understand. I think that portrait mode has been available for a few versions.

On the startup screen, select Social Media:

Select Instagram or one of the other choices:

The Movie Settings and timeline will reflect your choice.

When you go to export, the settings will be those for whatever you chose for the Movie Settings:

John, there were reports on the previous page, confirmed by JohnEB, that the exported files are bugged at 1:1, not 9:16.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi Al,

Thanks. I should have looked closer and back to get the context.

I don't see anything in the latest patch notes that would indicate that the bug has been fixed so I presume that it still exists.

Hi

Unfortunately there are no 'changelogs' as such available for Video Pro X, Magix Movie Studio / Movie Edit Pro, however if you look under the General section of the forum you will find some notifications of new patches and what has been fixed/changed.

Unusually Poor Timeline Performance on New Hardware/ W11 !!! Something WRONG with Video Pro X15.

I have Vegas Pro 20 and Resolve running beautifully with ChromaKey Pro or Boris Primatte Studio plus Skin Smoothing plugs running on the timeline of this machine in the above mentioned NLE's with very good workable performance (1080 or 720 proxies or reduction of preview res or a combo of both.)

I downloaded the X15 Trial (21.0.1.193) and loaded the exact files and plugs/settings and X15 craps out bigtime with stutters and stalls.. Using proxy mode in the preview window actually makes the problem worse. For a brief time after the initial install and during the first setup of the test projects mentioned above it seemed very responsive and with a reduced res in the preview window everything was going okay. I added a track or two to test different backgrounds and all of the sudden the program just crapped out. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling X15 and the same thing happened.... There's something wrong with this rev of X15. These test projects are not super intense on my hardware and should move along smoothly in the preview window. FWIW After the issues started I disabled all plugs and the stutters where still present to a degree... so the plugs in this case are not the major issue...

I really like the features of X15 but will not consider purchasing until this is sorted out.

Just for shiiits and giggles I downloaded a trail of Corel Video Studio 2023 and set up the identical test projects and CVS 2023 ran smoothly with no issues (Dumbed Down as it is...)

I then downloaded Magix Movie Studio 2024 and with my test projects (created from scratch) I get the same behavior and stuttering just like X15 (Same Core Program)... PLEASE FIX X15 ASAP!!! Regards Craig

@Craig-Wilkins

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We need more information to help diagnose the issue(s) you are having:

The specification of your computer system, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card/integrated GPU drivers up to date?

Incorrect program settings, and the video format plus added effects can cause stuttering a screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab would help.

What video format, codec and resolution are you importing - to help with this download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips causing the issue and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

Hi John,

Thanks for the follow up.. I will provide info requested info and edit my profile asap. (Monday 8-21)

So far I'm impressed with the X15 UI and I'd like to find out why this is happening with both X15 and MMS 2024 in the trial versions and not in the other NLE's that I've mentioned.

I wouldn't think there would be a difference in functionality other than the 3min max for export so hopefully the group can help figure it out. I tried them today again and one thing I did notice is that when switching the preview settings (lightning bolt button at bottom right) when I activate the proxy and reduce res settings I can see the change in the preview to indicate the settings have taken place but the performance (stutters and lags) get much worse than when those settings are cleared and the button is switched off. This is very odd and shouldn't be happening.

AAProds wrote on 8/20/2023, 10:55 PM

@Craig-Wilkins

Craig, are you actually creating proxy files? Merely selecting Proxy mode on the lightning bolt button will do nothing if you haven't already created the proxy files themselves. To do so, in a new movie, go to Movie Settings (key E) and tick Automatically Create proxy files. Then, from the Import tab, bring in your files. Magix will then create the proxies and put them on the timeline.

Added: I note that the Proxy system is still bugged in MMS 2024: A proxy is created for the first file imported but skipped for all others. If one of those skipped files is imported first, a proxy is created.

Hi

. . . . the Proxy system is still bugged in MMS 2024: A proxy is created for the first file imported but skipped for all others.  . . . .

This only occurs if you have the Automatically Create proxy files option turned on in the project settings and then import the video.

As a workaround, try importing all the video clips to the timeline then turn on the Automatically Create proxy files you will be asked if you want to create the proxy files, create them.

Tested with 4K UHD HEVC 50fps video files in MMS 2024 full version.

I do not use proxy files on my PC or Laptop, nor have the Proxy mode on the lightning bolt button.

Stuttering does occur with some effects as they are done on the CPU.

Hi John,

I've done some more testing with all of the above considerations and when I import all clips and turn on the Automatically Create proxy files it does appear to solve the problem but the moment I add more clips or start copying clips and moving things around in the timeline things get wonky again and when I press play the "preloading" progress bar at the bottom has to complete... which is everytime I press play or stop and this slight delay prior to the timeline actually playing is unacceptable.

Let's face it here.... Magix X15 Pro in it's current revision needs some fixing. Mind you all other NLE's that I own work beautifully on my machine ..... it's not "videos" it's not the machine.... the problem is with X15 Pro. I'll try it again when they patch it.... it's a mess currently and not worth purchasing. It's got excellent potential but it's just not there yet. Thank you for all of the suggestions and help. I will check back when they patch the program.

Craig

Whenever I put a video clip on the timeline and start to make adjustments to it like contrast, gamma etc. and I remove the clip and put something else on it the adjustment settings are still set as was on the previous clip. However, the adjustments are actually not applied to the new movie. This can be confusing because one would think that the adjustment were set.

Also, one can enter the numbers into the field to which the setting needs to be adjusted and again you can move to the next field. Such as using the tab to go to the next input field. But still the adjustment has not been applied until one presses enter.

Another thing is, when exporting you can enter the filename and presumably it will be similar to the input file. When X15 finds an error (like empty section) and you corrected it the filename has been reset back to the project filename instead of what you want it to name.

As far as the first part of your question goes, if you don't want to keep adjustments of a removed file don't use the cut command but use delete. Otherwise the effects applied will remain as the cut command is similar in principle to using a cut and paste command in another program.

Your second point is the way personally I would prefer the program to work but I'm sure there are many who would like it as you would prefer.

I'm not altogether sure of what you mean in your last question. Do you mean the renaming of individual clips within the project?

Ray.

I am putting the complete sequence in, entering the adjustments. Export it and remove the whole sequence out with the delete button. When I put another clip in that same track the adjustments are still the same as but not applied to the clip.

No cut&paste is involved.

Hi Marcus.

For your second point if I'm reading this correctly I think you may need to change the movie name to achieve your second objective which is different from changing the project title. Then you should see the change happen in the export section.

As to your first point, again if I am reading this correctly, effects are applied to objects not to tracks or track positions. This may be a difference in workflow if you came from another video editor. With tracks with sound only, bizarrely pan and volume adjustments do stick to the timeline positions but as far as I'm aware nothing else does that.

I'm willing to be wrong on both points as I'm not overly sure those are the points you are trying to make.

Ray.

Hi,

Whenever I put a video clip on the timeline and start to make adjustments to it like contrast, gamma etc. and I remove the clip and put something else on it the adjustment settings are still set as was on the previous clip. However, the adjustments are actually not applied to the new movie. This can be confusing because one would think that the adjustment were set.

To use the correct terms, please do not refer to a clip as a movie, as movies in VPX are separate timelines - different tabs. There are no track video settings in VPX, only object settings. When you put an effect on a video clip, it is for that video clip alone. If you delete it after putting effects on it and put another one in its place, it has no effects applied to it and I would not want this to happen (see below) except in one case and that is where I use the command Swap (4) to replace the object. However, knowing that this does not happen, I simply copy the effects that I want to keep to the clipboard (shortcut - ) before deleting the clip, and apply the effects (Shift + - ) to the new clip or any other clip.

Why do I not want this to happen - more often than not, the effects on the new clip will have to be different from the previous one. If not, then copy the effects to the clipboard as I have indicated.

Also, one can enter the numbers into the field to which the setting needs to be adjusted and again you can move to the next field. Such as using the tab to go to the next input field. But still the adjustment has not been applied until one presses enter.

This has always been the case - the value is not fixed properly unless you press Enter. Pressing tab does not actually jump to the next value, the cursor is still in the first box until you press Enter or navigate with the mouse to another box. Of course, one would expect Tab to do the same thing. It would be nice if Magix would change this.

Possible Bug

There seems to be some bugs here. With 2 clips on the track, first clip selected, Brightness/Contrast, adjust Brightness to 80. Tab. Nothing happens, brightness does not change, and there is nothing in the keyframe area. I also changed HDR gamma, Tab, in the image below.

Select the second clip and you'll probably see Brightness at 80 and HDR gamma at 10. Move the playback marker over the second clip. Brightness is 80 but with no effect on the image and nothing is in the keyframe area.

Click on the X at the upper right to reset the effect. Nothing happens, 80 remains. Go to the first clip and try X - nothing happens.

Click on the 80 under Brightness, Enter, and the effect gets applied and the X now works. Click on the second clip and the value will have changed back to 50.

However, if you had changed 2 or more parameters and the Tab each time, only the one entered will reset when X is applied.

Complicating the issue is that this doesn't always happen the second time round if Enter has been used on that box. But, any other parameter then Tab will not stick but will show up in the field of the second clip, unapplied.

Reset with X and do it again, and the same problem happens.

With the unentered values showing on both clips, save, close and reopen the project and the incorrect/unentered values will still be there.

Can some of you please check this?

Obviously using Enter works. However, using Tab, which is what one would normally expect, should do the same as Enter. It would be good if Magix allowed this, Tab = Enter.

Another thing is, when exporting you can enter the filename and presumably it will be similar to the input file. When X15 finds an error (like empty section) and you corrected it the filename has been reset back to the project filename instead of what you want it to name.

Not quite. The default filename is actually the Movie name. Unless you change the first Movie name, it will be the Project name by default (a second Movie will be the projectname - 01, etc. So, to solve your problem, rename the Movie to what you want the export filename to be. Of course, if you want something different than that, then the problem remains. Export will always propose the Movie name, it will not remember what you typed in the box and then didn't use. See below. It does not even remember what you used if you actually exported and want to export again. Of course, you can just open the folder and select the name that you already used and overwrite it or change it.

Normally, one wants the export to be the movie name, so if you exported (or abandoned the export) with another name and the program remembered this in the Export parameters and then you wanted to export using the movie name the next time round, you or I would be unhappy because I would now have to type in the movie name. The program remember both. Of course, a popdown with last used export name(s) and movie name would solve this, but is it really that necessary?

Hi John.

To my knowledge just applying an effect where the effect remains static as opposed to dynamic, with the Contrast or colour controls as well as a few others like the size / position / rotation effect has never resulted in key frames being added to the timeline. It can be forced but normally the setting is retained for a given clip without doing that.

I am plagued for the second time this week not to be able to upload images at present. Sorry. Will try later.

Hi Ray,

Keyframes are not indicated unless you actually make them, but the effect shows up both in the keyframe area and beside the object name on the object if any parameters have been modified, with or without kf's.

Hi John.

Yes.

I am not having any failures to apply any effects in VPX 14 though. Is that what you are saying is happening?

Hi Ray,

I don't know if the same occurs in VP14, but you can try following exactly what I did to see if the same thing happens. I suspect it does because I tried in MMS2023 and the same thing happens.

Hi John.

Everything here is working as it should. There is no close button on any of the effects in VPX 14 or my copy of MEP 2022. Only a reset button and drop down menu button.

Close button? I don't think I mentioned any close button.

Look at the image below. Magix changed the icons from the one on the left to the X on the right to reset. They also change the dropdown arrow to a hamburger 3-bar menu.

If I now go back and click on the 80 in the Brightness box, Enter, the effect gets applied and Brightness now shows up in the kf area. However, HDR gamma at 10 does not show up in the following image. It will if I select it and press Enter.

Follow exactly what I said after I wrote Possible Bug.

Hi John.

I haven't had the other programs to know the X was not close. I didn't realise it was the reset button.

I am still not able to upload images at present.

I did do as you asked after you wrote 'possible bug' step for step with your instructions on my left screen and the program on my right screen. My copy of VPX 14 and MEP 2022 are not doing what your copy is doing but behaving normally.
