Hi Andy.

Considering we now lose the ability to go back a version if we decide to 'upgrade' to a newer version now, I take new version upgrades very seriously. Especially as most performance increase promises this time around seem to rely on processes my system does not have or the ability to upgrade to unless I change my motherboard and processor. There is little in this release on the face of it (unless you want the newer version of travel maps) that is that enticing for me personally unless some existing issues have been addressed as well.

I think we may also get more complaints here from people using AMD processors and graphics card combinations. Of that I'm not certain as AMD I think does support resizable bar but not Intel® Hyper Encode. Have yet to see.

Already according to the new specs page the ability to export a single frame to a PNG file is missing which would mean no ability to export a stills file format that could contain an alpha channel.

I tend to look for what is now missing from new versions as much as what additions it may have and I'm wary about how much a new version has changed that may actually impact on my machine for playback smoothness and export times.

So yes the above comments were jovial but.....

Greetings Ray, apologies for making light of this.

I agree with most of what you say but my use of MEP/MS is purely on an amateur level - I just enjoy making video of and for family and friends. I do hope they look good though.

I've tried to follow some of the threads that discuss technical things in detail and i'm afraid my eyes just glaze over. If I could understand it all, or indeed if i need it all, then I'm sure I would lose the fun of video making.

That said I do want my Editor to do what I bought it for, and MEP 2022 fell down quite heavily in that department (fairly well documented on this forum).

As for "Considering we now lose the ability to go back a version if we decide to 'upgrade' to a newer version now" I have the downloads for the upgrades to MEP 2022. Are you saying that, if I want to reload 2022 I can't use those updates?

Re_Bar is built into the PCIe interface, and has been there since PCIe 3.0. Did you check your BIOS for the option to turn it on as your motherboard has PCIe gen 3?

The downside is:

• the requirement for an Intel 10th gen or better CPU with iGPU, an RT X30xx series, or AMD GPU with SAM support, for it to work.
   
• the performance gain is variable and depending on the hardware can result in a loss of performance.

No apology needed.

I think on average, most people here would just prefer a program that did all it said it would and that Magix should just concentrate on getting the program as bug free as possible but of course there is no profit in that.

At the same time as users we need Magix to continue to exist and for that to happen they need income, and as the base operating system and hardware changes they have to take that into account with their programming or find their programs becoming redundant.

It's a modern chicken and egg situation and may get worse before it gets better.

If you 'upgrade' to a new version, the old version of the program will disappear from your Magix Account.

If on the other hand you buy the program outright. As in 'New Purchase' rather than selecting the 'Upgrade' offering, then both versions will remain in your Magix account. (for the additional cost).

I did have MEP 2019 as well but made the mistake of 'upgrading' to MEP 2020, and then upgrading again to MEP 2022 so 2019 and 2020 have gone.

Hi John. I checked on the ASUS site (And the EUFI) and my motherboard does not support either resizable Bar or a 10th generation CPU. (the second of which is no surprise.) Also, without Resizable Bar it is not able to use an Intel Graphics card or if it could would not be able to use the Intel® Hyper Encode technology.

As you say, that would probably mean a performance loss, (for me personally) hence my inquiry to Magix Redaction on the pinned topic at the top of the forum posts. The silence so far has been deafening.

But to be honest I expect as much. Lifecycle of a productive PC is about three years if you want to keep apace.

Therefore, for me at the moment I'm trying to find reasons to justify an upgrade. Not seeing one as yet.

The same is possibly true if you want to keep pace with camera technology.

Phones and drones at present are changing capabilities much faster with prices to match.

At present I'm not sure which direction the electronics sector will go in the next couple of years but it will be interesting as peoples spending power in general shrinks.

The only reason I can see to "upgrade" (which at the moment appears to be bug fixes) was for Mercalli V6, which is really nice. Since I have it already, I see other real reason to upgrade at the moment.

Maybe if they offer a plugin that I would use... maybe. But to have the 2022 deleted from the computer and your account... wow.

Just out of curiosity has any actually downloaded and used Movie Studio 2023 yet be it a trial or a purchse? For the past few years there has been almost a race (à la Beaujolais Nouveau) to see who can comment on the New Version first.

Is this, i wonder, because it's not being offered as a standard update as in previous years (or will it be at some stage?) or is it that no one wants to pay for it until there are (hopefully) positive reviews on this forum?

I must admit I've got used to most of the "quirks" of 2022 that I use, I don't utilise most of the 3rd party effects I already have and I can't use the hyperdrive(?) because my GPU is the wrong one so I think I'll pass on a purchase despite what I said 5 post above this.

I've always been a firm believer that if the computer is working well (it's only 2 months old) the leave the BIOS well alone. My Z690 Aurus Elite motherboard using F6 bios (Feb 2022) did not have Resizable BAR mentioned anywhere in the Gigabyte data that I could see and there was no entry in the BIOS

After Ray's couple of posts regarding the Re BAR, I looked on Gigabyte's Support page and found a new BIOS listed dated 12 August 2022 version F7 that supports New Generation Intel Core CPU's so I took the plunge and updated my MB Bios. Resizable Bar is now showing.

The purpose of this ps is just to point out to people that maybe a BIOS update is required as Re Bar is possibly not there as a matter of course even on a new release motherboard..

Hi Andy. Your Intel 12th gen processor will be able to use Intel® Hyper Encode technology.

[Edit] Apparently not, strange as it was released after the Xe- releases.

If you build your own computers, going into the bios is just one of those things. It's a lot easier than it used to be.

You do have the option to buy the new version outright at full price rather than upgrade, in which case both versions will still be available in your account.

That is a good point - even though the Re-Bar/SAM functionality is in the PCIe 3 'standard' it may not have been implemented in the motherboard manufacturers BIOS.

As I previously commented a suitable GPU and iGPU is required, with respect to the Intel Hyper-encode this is referring to the use of both the iGPU and a separate Intel Arc desktop graphics card, which have only become available in mid August - so early days yet.

It's just the blurb for VXP 14 says

"Get ready for the future: Intel® Hyper Encode Thanks to our partnership with Intel, we can now offer optimized Intel® Hyper Encode technology alongside Video Pro X. This means both graphics cards are simultaneously enabled on Intel desktop and laptop systems equipped with an onboard GPU and an additional Intel GPU, such as the brand-new Intel® Arc™. Hyper Encode accelerates rendering, so you can export your movie twice as fast* as with just one GPU".

* During testing with a 2-minute 4K video, the export time on an ASUS Vivobook decreased from 98 seconds to 47 seconds.

Looking at ASUS Vivobook laptops I can only find Intel 12th gen CPUs with nvidia 30 series cards fitted.

Also what does " so you can export your movie twice as fast* as with just one GPU". actually mean? I find the blurb as confusing as ever.

@browj2 I'll try check what i can from your list, you might have to describe some a bit more for me.

Size position has a centre option for the anchor that seems to work wherever the text is placed or rotated, but there seems to be transitions missing & i don't know what's in Extra Content, I've been trying since yesterday to download that but it just times out all the time, . I'll get back to you,

PS, I have super fast fibre broadband & you know the specs of my PC, so the download prob isn't at my end.

What other 'additional Intel GPU' is available - the Intel ARC series.

Hi John.

I have spent hours looking at the Intel site along with the disclaimer section saying some results are due to simulations and based on 12th gen CPU performance in other sections and still thoroughly confused regarding the content creators section. As far as I can tell the Intel CPU / internal GPU combo selects which function or section of rendering is given to which GPU if it supports that function which does not seem to have to be an Arc GPU graphics card.

Can you check the export section to see if exporting a movie Single frame as a PNG file is missing?

It's still available in VPX 14 according to the specs page.

Making more changes between programs to more clearly separate the capabilities of both?

I can also currently use PSD files in 2022. Is there any mention in the manual for continued support of PSD?

Hi Ray,

Confirmed that MS2023 Plat/Suite can export to png. I seem to recall that you mentioned something about exporting to png with transparency - that cannot be done and never could.

As for what happens in your account, unless you are still under the Update Service program, I doubt that your previous version would disappear from your account. If you pay to upgrade, not new, you would most likely get a new entry for MS2023 and a new serial number. Your previous one, if you had one for 2022, would remain - assuming that you did not get it under the Update Service. With the Update Service, no version is indicated, but Magix knows which version you last paid for.

The real problem is that 2023 will overwrite 2022. If you want to go back, then you would have to remove 2023 and get 2022 from your account, assuming that it was paid for and not obtained through the Update Service. If it was obtained through the Update Service, then you would likely fall back to 2021.

Complicated enough?

Getting the problems with Size/Position/Rotation, Section, Camera Zoom and Track motion fixed are worth the price of admission. However, they should have been fixed under 2022.

Many of the fixed bugs that I mentioned for VPX14 seem to have been applied to MS2023 which I now have installed. These have been discussed at various times in the forum and in my Bug list for VPX14.

A new feature is the one shown in the image below and is very useful:
