@CubeAce ok will try that at some point. I’ve loaded it up on my intel based macbook pro and it let me add a file ok. I do know MEP 2022 doesn’t accept HEVC format so i had to convert the file to 264 to get it to load on my intel mac. 264 still crashes it on M1/windows 11 ARM. That’s all i know so far. I’m going to try doing the post processing tomorrow so i can at least say i got it to work on intel based mac. More to come.. thanks!

As far as I'm aware MEP 2022 can accept HEVC H265 video but should not be recorded as a variable frame rate video but constant frame rate or there will probably be problems when you try to edit it as the frames to audio could go out of sync as could the images from left to right. I do tend to stick to using H264 to avoid such problems.

What is the spec for the Intel based MAC? Specifically the processor and graphics card - full name/model please.
MEP will run on an appropriate Intel based MAC using Bootcamp to create a Windows partition.
Parallels has, AFAIK, never been mentioned as an option for running the program on a MAC.
While the M1/Parallels/Windows 11 ARM - combination can have MEP 2022 installed, there are likely to be issues with the GPU which is the cause of the crashing.

Ah!
For playback within MEP you will need to download ( and possibly pay a small fee for) the Windows HEVC codec. To record to HEVC Magix can supply a bought HEVC encoder.
Although a lot of video players can play HEVC content if the system is powerful enough (It can be a very demanding codec) those players are supported by the codec (possibly for free) to ensure it's more widespread use and remuneration levied at those manufacturers who add it to their products to enable longer recording times due to the superior encoding capabilities. (That is where the developers get their investment back) This is very evident in the phone industry where additional storage for no additional outlay can be of benefit to the customer. (Or for any camera relying on relatively cheap micro SDHC relatively high performance memory cards. Apple use HEVC (and variants there of) and do not pay as they are listed as one of the co-developers of the codec, whereas Microsoft went their own way with wmv.
While I have both codecs on my machine do I actually use it? No, not for day to day use because not everywhere uses it and not everyone can play back the files. In an editor, the more complex the codec, the harder the machine has to work and the fewer parallel tracks I can run within the editor before it hits performance issues.

Thanks for this info. I have no problem buying the codec if need be. I'll look into it once I've been able to prove MEP2022 will do the job. In the meantime I can transcode it out of my existing captures using iSkySoft Video converter. I recall a pop up warning in the GoPro settings about HEVC potential compatibility issues. I can disable it but I think I loose 4K 60fps. I'll take a look at that again now that I know this.
Et all: I've hit an obstacle with the trial version. If you are dtill running the trial version of MEP 2022 then it has limited support for other than the inclided export formats.
On purchase of the full program, you get more codecs available, as @CubeAce has commented HEVC does have a small fee attached to it due to licensing conditions.
Before purchase I would suggest you provide the asked for information regarding the computer specs you intend to run MEP on. The system demands of MEP 2022 for working with 4K video, as 3D Stereo, and HEVC are much higher the minimum specs.

As I said earlier, if you want conformation that it can be done (Hardware allowing) then post links to a couple of files for us to try out. Still no guarantee at this stage unless someone with a similar system to your own (or lower specced) can verify it will run. There are more than a few here willing to try.

@CubeAce Hi Ray, I figured that would be a last resort so I didn't cause any duplicated effort (plus I'm not sure yet how to remove location data).
I think i'd better rule out possible Vmware fusion bottlenecks next so I'm going to load windows up using boot camp on my Intel macbook and boot straight into it.
I'll launch that (then blow the snow out of our laneway) and be back with the results...
As an aside..
I was hoping to be able to do all the 3D processing on my new M1 silicon based Macbook on Mac OS.
Does anyone know if there is a Mac OS based program that has the same 3D movie post processing?
Hi. I understand the concern of leaving location data which is why I never personally record it. If I need to recall it I can place it as a text file in the project folder.
The few of us here that do bother to do these things can Message you and you can share a link in a personal message reply. The mods here and a few other like myself don't keep the files once we test them and send back our findings. I have even swapped whole projects with some of the people on here.
I certainly trust the following people on this site.

Not being a Mac user I'm afraid I can't help on that one. That may be a question for a Mac user forum.
I do have two friends that are both struggling to find a decent video editor to run on the new M1 machines. They are not Magix users. One uses Edius which is not supported and the other Da Vinci Resolve which does apparently run but with a lot of issues. The only video editor that runs without issues as far as I know is Apples own editor. Surprise 🤨🙄🤐.

You can turn off the GPS function on your GoPros and then record.
BTW, how well does the GPS data correspond to reality?
My GoPro Hero5 is usually close but takes great leaps off-route. Altitude data had me living below sea level instead of way above it.

I can confirm that once the HEVC codec is downloaded and installed from Magix, MEP 2022 will happily open HEVC files on my other machine (i3-3220, Windows 8.1), including a Main 5.1 file. I can't vouch for audio sync yet.

I can confirm that the audio, after 2 minutes, was in perfect sync.
The export time, obviously, was a tad slow on my i3. The 13 second test render from the end of the clip took 3 minutes (encoded into HD at 6000kbps).
Now if Magix would fix the Section bug, I might consider using MEP 2022 seriously! 😎
Audio sync problems only occur with variable frame rate files while being edited within the program.
Not sure your point here, Ray. Obviously, my i3 isn't going to play the file on the timeline smoothly, but a quick pre-render of a speaking part shows the audio is in sync. Now there may be issues with a much longer file, but given the frame rate range of that video (39.8 to 120), one would have expected a bit of de-sync; it is in perfect sync. I'm beginning to wonder if the variable frame rate bogeyman is history with the latest version of MEP.
A slight correction to my comment above: the clip was 1 minute long, not 2 minutes.

It is not necessarily the length of a clip but how much the frame rate varies up and down during the clip dependent on the amount of variation of speed of objects moving within the frame. This is why it does not always occur unless a program can read all of the files embedded information. Apple do not share that information and as far as I'm aware nor does Go-Pro of their variations of the HEVC codec. You may have a variant the program can read.

I too would have expected a sync issue with such a wide range, I do remeber a patch last year stated better handling of iPhone video, perhaps this has had a knock on effect for Android phones. I have not noticed sync issues with my Samsung though the VFR range is much tighter.

I wonder when that got fixed? They should have shouted that problem was fixed.
Boy does that phone ever use sharpening. I have the much lower end Galaxy A12 which I never use for video and does not have an HEVC option. Or a frame rate option for that matter. You can tell there is a lot of AI in the processing and stabilization. My guess is the frame rate went up just after the pan started as the pan starts jittery but then smooths out buttery smooth. Was it on full auto?

Is that what MediaInfo indicated or the file properties in Windows?
It has become common practice to call the framerate for NTSC video 60 or 30 fps which is technically incorrect.
NTSC at a true 30 fps (60 fields/sec) was the standard before the advent of colour broadcast, which necessitated the drop to 29.97 fps (59.94 fields/sec) so as the chroma (2 colour difference signals) information, could be included in the existing bandwidth allowance, and with out making all B&W TV sets at the time obsolescent.

Sorry, should have said MediaInfo. I was expecting a different frame rate because it was a colour file, I was just surprised MediaInfo said differently.
Even to get a semi detached 3 bedroom house less than a hundred years old around my neck of the woods (which is one of the cheapest areas in Kent) you are talking £500,000 or more. I would move further north but the temperature difference isn't worth it.

None that I've found. I believe that the problem is with the radio - it's not very precise like a dedicated GPS device (Garmin).
I followed the GoPro Forum for a while. There is a discussion group about using the GPS data. One of the guys made up a small app to easily extract the data from a video and another guy modified it to do whole folders of videos. Very handy. The original guy seems to have made a business out of his updated and detailed program to extract data.

I had a look at the Telemetry extractor and how GoPro stores the GPS data as a stream in the video file and it makes me wonder if the telemetry stream is what trips up some users of GoPro's with photostory/MEP/VPX.
My sportscam stores the GPS data in a separate standard NMEA format log file which is easy to convert to GPX format and use in Travel Maps.
