Peter-Haigh wrote on 10/13/2021, 8:35 AM

Hi there, I wonder if you could help. I have Movie edit pro premium and have had this nearly a year got the latest updates, for some reason the transition are no longer working had them working before eg using cube rotation is now not doing anything just carries on to the next scene. Anybody else had this and know how to fix it I would very grateful. Kind regards Peter

Hi Peter, and welcome to the user to user forums.

I have tried the cube rotation effect with the graphics settings set to all CPU, all Microsoft WARP, all Intel HD 630, and nvidia GTX 1650Super and all settings worked.

I cannot replicate your results.

The files I am trying are constant frame rate MP4 files.

What is the source of your video files? Do they come from a mobile phone or screen recording?

Any variable frame rate video file does not edit well or sometimes not at all.

Check that first using MediaInfo.

If you don't understand the results please post them here by copying the results using the programs text view for other users here to look at and advise.

Also.

What are your complete machine specifications (Processor type, generation, etc.) and what build of Windows are you currently running? That may also be relevant but maybe not in this instance.

Ray.

Greetings Ray,

"Any variable frame rate video file does not edit well or sometimes not at all"

I'm not one to quibble but on my system MEP2022 edits variable frame rate videos as well as any other constant frame rate video. I suppose it's down to the GPU involved - in my case (literally😁) an RTX 2060 but NO Intel chip.

The attached mediainfo file shows the latest I've edited succesfully:

@Peter-Haigh

Hi Peter.

Can you do a screen shot of this page of your program settings?

Do you have both options on the bottom box?

There is no help for you from any graphics card as the HD 2000 of your system can't be used so you are stuck with using just the CPU unless Microsoft WARP can be forced to work. (Assuming that option is available).

I'm not even sure at what video resolutions that chip can handle but I'm guessing you have possibly upgrade Movie Edit Pro one too many times.

What was your previous version of Movie Edit Pro?

If the program is running and playing your files but not able to work with some of the effects then you may be able to convert the files to a more user friendly format or lower resolution with the help of Handbrake or a similar video convertor.

On the other hand your machine may not be able to use those effects any more due to the increased workload the program will have put on your system.

Hi Andy.

I certainly can't edit variable frame rate video with a frame rate variation of more than a few fps so it could well be as your nvidia card is a lot more powerful than my 1650 Super. But I also note each frame is not using many bits and the resolution is very small so maybe I could. I have never worked with video with such a low variable bit rate or small resolution. Maybe that plays a part as well.

greetings Ray,

I only mentioned that MEP2022 can edit variable frame rate videos successfully so that we don't jump to conclusions with @Peter-Haighs problem. I don't think this is the topic to be discussing this other issue.

However I will say that I've edited a lot of stuff recorded on my old phone, again without any squealing from MEP 2022.

Is the actual transition showing on the timeline? That is, can you see the fade out from the left clip and the fade in on the right clip overlaying each other?

If so, you could try putting a short range over the transition area, then clicking the lightning bolt to get MEP to pre-render the transition. It will then play through it correctly.

I use this technique when my 10yo i5 chokes on a transition (MEP 2021).

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

There is something terribly wrong somewhere.

First there is nothing showing in the box I mark in the image below. There should be one of the two options showing in that box. I do not understand why one or the other is not showing.

I am not sure whether this is a NET framework problem or not. Perhaps @johnebaker can comment as I am not using Windows 11.

Second, my graphics capabilities are over four time more powerful than your system can provide so you may have to change all your import, processing, and export settings all to CPU. The clips either side should be showing up in the timeline as well as the one highlighted and don't appear to be.

I do note that there is no lightning bolt for Preview Rendering. Mine's greyed out at the moment, but it is still visible.

My Movie Studio:

The clips either side should be showing up in the timeline as well as the one highlighted and don't appear to be.

I can see the timeline thumbnails of all the clips; under them, I assume is the audio objects, with no waveform generated yet.

Hi

I suspect the missing items eg the Video mode options and the lack of preview rendering is because this is the basic edition of Movie Studio, not the Platinum or Suite version.

@Pacharee-Pantoomano

If this is correct then change the Import setting to CPU also.

If you purchased the Platinum or Suite editions did you install all the extra Content that is available under Help, Install extra content ?

Hi Al.

I have never seen that section blank so to me I can't even make it go blank on opening a new project so I find it unusual. If you do not have it either then I believe you but Had never noticed that in any images you have published on this site.

Your lightning symbol is not showing because you have not selected a range with the range markers. No blue line between range markers equals no lightning symbol or ability to create a pre-render.

@Pacharee-Pantoomano 's lighting symbol missing seems to suggest that either a part of the program is missing or the graphics driver is not up to date or the GPU is not powerful enough to cope. The missing graphics waveform for the audio is down to the program settings in the playback audio video section has not been activated. That was a good observation Al.

What happens if only the CPU is selected for Import Processing and Export?

If that works then check at the AMD site again for graphics drivers. Do not rely on Windows to tell you if there is an update for graphics drivers.

Ray.

Hi Al.

I said I believed you 😉. No need to prove that to me.

I never realized that the base version was missing so much. In which case I was partially correct in saying a part of the program may be missing and to try changing all settings to CPU😅.

I can't believe proxy files are also missing from the base program.

The files not showing up either side seems to suggest a lack of GPU power or a driver problem.

Even with Movie Edit Pro 2022 I get odd behaviour I didn't get when I first got the program. Looping short sections of video results in my system freezing the image on the monitor in subsequent passes now. It didn't use to do that. I don't know if it is Windows updates or driver updates that have caused this but the only way I can avoid it is to set the Import setting to CPU which works but then won't play the whole project without freezing. It runs for about a minute then the playback image freezes again but the audio keeps going.

Ray.
