CPU Only: 1min 15

UHD770: 25sec

3060Ti: 11sec

Mu times for the 512x288 res were 20sec, 11sec and 9sec.

What times are you getting? The project we're using can be downloaded using Help>Install Extra Content (untick all the crud you don't want). You can change the processing component on the Program Settings>Device Options tab.

Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@AAProds Hi,, my PC motherboard & I think my CPU has a server history, it was built for stability not speed, AMD have since reconfigured their CPU's to get better performance, mine is sort of the last of the line before they made these changes. Also my RAM is 2.666hz, I wonder how much your Intel CPU is doing even though you've set MS to GPU? I don't think on a small project like this the difference in our GPU's makes much difference, could be wrong but I'd be interested in any adjustments you've made to get better performance from the 3060ti,

No deliberate adjustments; the CPU is doing something, hovering around 12% with a short spike to 40%, but not really sustained above 12%.

I had a look at a Toms Hardware page and the 3060Ti beats a 4060, but should be slower than a 3090.

Someone built my PC for me, I have two Western Digital Black SN850 2TB M.2-2280 SSD, 7000MB/s Read, 5100MB/s Write, one (C) has Windows & programs, the other (D) I use for exports & temp stuff, finished projects go off to a 12TB SATA Drive,

Both drives are on a ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 Gen 4 Card (PCIe 4.0/3.0) that supports up to four NVMe M.2 & claims 'up to 256 Gbps', the builders of this PC chose that option but the motherboard itself can hold 4xm.2 drives, why thy put them on there I'm not sure but I've always meant to move them to the motherboard.

Exporting to the main M.2 (C) drive or the other M.2 (D) drive makes no difference at all but I've always wondered if going through the card has some effect of times..🤷‍♂️

@johnebaker 👍 Yeah I'd say it was 1-2secs slower, hard to tell when the window disappears as soon as it's finished. I exported this 15+ times, shutting down other software, Google etc. Export times varied by only 1sec, -ish. but FullHD was def just a small fraction slower then the lower resolution.

I just remembered, I do have the Resizable BAR thingee set up in the BIOS. I don't understand what it actually does but I assume it's the thing to do; the one of the driver update processs gives a message saying to enable it.

I think as well as clock speeds, amount of ROPS, generation of ram, cache sizes etc, the one thing that tends to get overlooked is the parallel processing involved. Both in CPUs and GPUs. The 3060ti 8GB Al uses has a 256 bit bus whereas my 12 GB 3060 has a 192 bit bus and a 4060 has a 128 bit bus and a 3090 has a 384 bit bus. This makes comparisons much harder to predict and I'm sure this is deliberate on behalf of the manufacturers. It also depends on what is being processed.

This is why reviews are so helpful from reviewers you trust and are applicable to the software you use. Although there are not many reviews that cover using Magix products, reviews covering using Adobe premier come close as their Mercury Playback Engine is very similar to The Magix Infusion Engine. The specs on both sites recommended for the programs are virtually identical.

Hi Al.

If you have access to Resizable BAR you should enable it. It allows more date via the PCIe lanes to be directly connected between the GPUs and the CPU.

To quote

Resizable BAR (Base Address Register) is a PCIe capability. This is a mechanism that allows the PCIe device, such as a discrete graphics card, to negotiate the BAR size to optimize system resources. Enabling this functionality can result in a performance improvement.

Sadly my CPU is too old.

If you have a capable nvidia card then it will show up as yes but that alone does not make it active.

For that you would have to check your bios settings and look up the processors capabilities. Anything from 10th gen Intel onward should work and earlier from AMD but how early I'm not sure. Even though my Bios has an Enable for Resizable BAR and can be switched on it makes little difference if the CPU cannot be enabled as well.

Hi Gid.

I think it's only people like me who swap out components that would have to look in the Bios. If the machine was built from the getgo with the components in place I would think it would be enabled correctly unless ther was an inboard GPU on the CPU that was not enabled. What surprised me was my motherboard had Resizable BAR support at all as it can't use a CPU that would allow Resizable BAR use.

@CubeAce Hi, I didn't have a lot of faith in the builders, they're a good PC shop or they were but finding RAM for this PC isn't easy & I remember talking on the phone, they were saying something about struggling to get something to work, didn't know what it was then & can't remember now,🤷‍♂️ Their workshop seemed to filled with half a dozen 'boys' with maybe a couple of slightly older men that were the overseers.

I do sort of understand tho, this motherboard today costs £1k, the CPU cost £2k+ depending on where you shop, why, is it because they're super dooper, is there more to them then meets the eye? 🤷‍♂️🙃 & why is my PC slower then some that are a fraction of the price 🤣 rhetorical questions..

Hi Gid.

Your motherboard is just awesome, as is your whole system. If it is falling behind in some export times it could just be down to newer GPUs having slightly differing computational units but I'll bet once you start to add additional processing needs such as tracking and morphing to get a picture or video within say a moving window panning across a scene it should still pull away in capabilities over newer builds. If you were really worried you could always replace your ram for faster sticks assuming the CPU can handle the speed. Ram wise you probably have way more than you need. What's the highest ram usage you have seen?

I just enabled Resizable Bar for my AMD GPU. I thought I had that already enabled, but was wrong. Shaved 2 seconds off the render. Down to 16 seconds.

@Former user as far as your slower rendering speeds, I don't get it either. Since this is basically a GPU issue, your card is the most powerful so far mentioned that was tested. It should have the fastest rendering times, even without Resizable bar enabled.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@Reyfox @CubeAce @AAProds My RAM is 2666MHz as mentioned, I have bought a 32GB 3200Mhz stick that had to be ordered & cost £200, I'm going to use that as a test, at the moment I can fit 8x32GB 2666MHz but if I want to add more of the 3200Mhz sticks the board will only allow 4 sticks, When I get around to moving the M.2 drives to the motherboard from the raid card I'll plug that single 3200Mhz stick i & see how it goes, Until then I'm fairly happy with the system, It'll run all day without overheating & I never get terminal PC crashes, it's only some software that does that 😏

Personally I would not get too hung up on this feature.

. . . . . I do remember going in & turning that on. I don't remember seeing any difference after turning that on. . . . .

To quote Intel and Nvidia, turning on Resizable bar 'can / may result in a performance improvement performance'.

When gaming this allows potentially faster access to the 3D Shaders, etc.

In practice, for gaming, the gains are variable being a few fps more from already high fps output to, in some instances, turning on Re-BAR actually degrades the fps output.

For video editing turning on Re-BAR may have zero to a marginal increase in performance when accessing the GPU Shaders and compute features, i have found no refence to Re-BAR affecting the encoding modules in GPU's that have them.

What does significantly affect performance is the number of 'encoding modules/units' in the GPU eg the RTX 4090, 4080 and 4070Ti have 2 NVENC encoding modules/units giving parallel processing capability.

Hi John.

I could not remember whether I had ReBAR left on or off so I checked and it was on.

So I ran the Demo with ReBAR on and off. On my system it did not make one iota of difference but I never expected it to as I have said my CPU cannot take advantage of it anyway. What curiously did make a difference was playing the project through fully once before exporting. That consistently shaved three seconds off of the export times but as expected my export times fall short of anyone else's times here.

What does worry me is that everyone may not have had exactly the same export settings so here are mine.

My best consistent export time.
