Hi

. . . .  Are fade in/outs working now on export with HW acceleration enabled . . . .

As a workaround, try using the Color fade transition and set it to black - works OK here with acceleration.

John EB

Hi John - it seems the transition settings are greyed out for me (actually for any transition):

Is this another bug? I am still on the initial v13 release as I am using the trial.

Thanks

It's not greyed out for me (with latest update 106 - I didn't notice if it was working in earlier versions of VPX13).

Thanks. I had to uncheck the "back to transition menu" checkbox to get back to the normal settings menu.
So color fade seems to work with AMD acceleration.
However, as a new related issue, when I try to set the transition length from the dialog

it does not stick. Meaning - I set the length, click OK but the length on the timeline stays the same. Is this something fixed in the newer builds?

@tpolakov @johnebaker

I found the same, but then went back to MEP 2021 and found it was the same there. You appear to have to check the box "apply to selected range" in both MEP and VPX13 for the length to be changed. It's not something I have changed from the transition context menu before (I just drag the transition handle on the timeline), so I don't know when that changed.

Hi,

19.0.1.106

No problem here changing the transition length using the dialog box from the transition menu list and from selecting the timer button at the bottom of the Transitions window in the Media Pool. I did not have to check range. I tried the both slider and putting the time into the box. I have not seen this problem in MEP2021 either. See my tutorials on Fades and Transition.

Does this happen with a particular transition?

Hi

. . . . when I try to set the transition length from the dialog it does not stick. . . .

When you have entered the values for the transition length press the Enter key to confirm that is the setting you want, then click apply - eg for a 3 second transition type in 300 then press Enter .

Confirming the values has been present for many dialogs where you can input values since MEP 2018 (IIRC, though it may have been 2017).

Enter seems to work for a transition between clips and fade out. For a fade in on a clip, checking "Apply to selected range" is needed for it to stick, at least for me. It seems to be the same with MEP 2021 though, although it is hardly intuitive.

@tpolakov

Hi,

I just checked MEP2021Plus and the duration dialogue for fades definitely does not work. I used the Edit Trimmer and it worked, but it did not change the fade on the audio part of a video/audio object.

Same in VPX13, except that the audio fade in changed with the video using the Edit Trimmer.

Also, if one is in a Transition window in the Media Pool, the timer button at the lower right shows up, but clicking on it does not open the dialogue box for editing the transition length.

Bug.

@johnebaker

I don't ever recall having to hit Enter after changing the times in the dialogue box for transitions. Hitting Ok changes the duration of the transition.

Hi

Confirmed - does not work on fade in or fade out in MEP 2021 or VPX 13.

IIRC we had another user with the same issue not so long ago, I also commented that I use the Object Trimmer to set the fade in/out duration.

. . . . I don't ever recall having to hit Enter after changing the times in the dialogue box for transitions. . . . .

This has been around for a while. The first time I came across it was with Size & Position when the ability to jump from entry box to entry box using the tab key, which also confirmed the entry, disappeared. It then became a regular occurrence that it is automatic for me to press the Enter key after entering a value in any of the dialogs to ensure the value takes - transition length was the second most action where I did this.

Patch 19.0.1.107

Size/Position seems to work better but look at the keyframe area below:

The horizontal scroll bar has gone wonky.

There should be keyframes on X and Y Scale.

Strangely, when I added a bit of levelling under Orientation, the kf window corrected itself and I got kf's on X and Y.

Then, when I removed Orientation, I ended up with this:

I have not applied a Section and the other row is blank.

Still a problem - Activating the curve view (turning the eye on) in the arranger does nothing (see first image above.

Going away from the Size/Position and coming back later, and selecting size position and clicking on Size/Position/Rotation in the kf area does not turn on the kf tools. You have to click on X Scale or something else to turn on everything, then you can click on the top row to continue editing kf's. Clicking on Size/Position/Rotation should be enough.

I still want the zoom slider and % box back and a rotation handle as before.

New problem - when the Media Pool window is below a certain size, the show full screen button at the upper right disappears. For me, it is not there in the default layout and I have to make the window quite a bit wider before the button shows up.

Edit Wave Externally

After doing a mixdown on an object, I was able to edit the wave file externally in Music Editor multiple times in the same session. Didn't check patch 107. This is an improvement as it could not be done before.

I don't have other audio editors except Magix Audio & Music Lab (which works properly) on my laptop. Could someone please check if other audio editors, in particular Sound Forge Pro and third party editors like Audacity can be used? Previously, Edit Wave Externally was sending the HDP file to the editor, not the wave file and these editors could not open anything. Does it still do this?

Using with Xara

I got all excited because I was able to create 2 XAR animated objects using Xara DPX16 from VPX13 and they would still show up after multiple openings of the project. Then, the other day, one of the them was emptied. Today, the other one has been emptied. The XAR objects are still there, but nothing is in them. Could someone who has a current version of Xara DPX18 or P&GD18 please check by making a couple of XAR animations or static images, and then open VPX and the project multiple times and reboot a couple of times?

I would like to know if my out of service Xara is causing this problem. Every time that it starts, it stops to give me a message that the Update Service has expired. This also happens when opening a VPX project that has XAR objects.

Xara/Magix should have issued a patch to kill this idiotic message a long time ago. It is purely annoying and unnecessary.

Thanks,

John CB

I can confirm that fades to/from black now work with GPU acceleration active.

Blank or black images at the beginning of a movie are still a problem unless exporting to HEVC.

Last evening I just upgraded my main PC to v.13 (having purchased it in June, and unaware of the many problems).

I am stuck at very basic things! When I press play, VPX13 literally stops playing after 2 seconds! If only it were that consistent! Sometime it plays by simply moving the cursor, before I even press play (i.e. spacebar). Sometimes part of the vertical cursor line disappears.

I was testing a variety of the title and movie templates, and some of them won't import. I can preview them, but neither manually dragging them to the timeline nor pressing the arrow to auto import them -- neither works. Oh, but they don't just not work... Sometimes after one does work, I'll try another in another location and it overwrites the prior one(s).

Okay, I tried these same things on my 2nd machine (which I also updated last night), and got better results. I could not fully replicate (but could partly) the above problems.

So, I just tried this with SoundForge Pro 13 (which admittedly I'm quite unfamiliar with).

I confirmed a few things:

1. Only works with .wav files. The option for external audio editing ("wave editing) is not available for .mp3 audio. So, ironically, if you are using imported .mp4 files with compressed audio embedded -- it's not externally editable. Hmm... I'm guessing this isn't new; just a limitation. (My workflow is simply to export to Samplitude and edit. But it adds a round trip.)

2. On several different .wav file attempts, I get this message: "The file V:\0_VPX\0_VPX PROJECTS\RHC Projects\Jesus Lover - Its All_12_A320B432.HDP could not be opened." So, this seems to be what you mentioned, that it's trying to send an "HDP file to the editor" (what the heck?), instead of the wave file. Seems absurd.

3. Here's the "adding insult to injury piece". After the Magic fail of not actually exporting the .wav file, it then locks you out, with this message if you try to do it again: "The content of the object is currently being used by an external program and can therefore not be modified." So, we're in a fail loop...

Hi,

Thanks for checking the Edit Wave Externally.

Did you try adding Samplitude as the external audio editor? It should open in wave edit view allowing you to use the C&R suite tools.

Crashes every time for me when the first item on the timeline is an "empty" title, blank (no video object), or black image and I try to export as AVCHD transport stream (1920x1080 25i) or burn to Blu Ray. Works fine if exporting to HEVC. Source material for this particular test was AVCHD .mts files.

Similarly UHD mp4 source material with an "empty" title, blank (no video object), or black image as the first item on the timeline will export fine to HEVC, but crashes if exporting to MPEG-4. I don't get any problems if I remove the "blank" at the beginning of the timeline.

Sev.

PS. All the above was with all three display options set to NVIDIA in the program settings.

PPS. When I say "crash", I mean that the program reports that it has encountered an error and I should update the Intel CPU graphics driver or deactivate hardware encoding. It doesn't create a dump and offer to send it to Magix.

Hi John

. . . . the Paste mode button never lights up. It cannot be selected and the dropdown (right-click) does not work . . .

I have tested this in VPX13, VPX12, MEP 2021 and MEP 2016 and it never does light up.

The button sets the 'Insert mode' which is independent of the mouse modes, for dragging media from the media pools onto another object on the timeline.

Using keyboard shortcuts or the mouse, it works as intended. There is one gotcha when using the keyboard shortcuts to do the insertion - you must select the source and target objects for modes 2 - 5 before pressing the appropriate key, in modes 2 or 3 a longer clip will be split by a shorter one depending on the cursor location.

Fuller descriptions are in the manual

@SevCardy

Hi

. . . . the program reports that it has encountered an error and I should update the Intel CPU graphics driver or deactivate hardware encoding.  . . .

That is the same message I get whatever setting combination is used for the 3 Device options.

Hi John EB,

I have tested this in VPX13, VPX12, MEP 2021 and MEP 2016 and it never does light up.

The button sets the 'Insert mode' which is independent of the mouse modes, for dragging media from the media pools onto another object on the timeline.

Nope. It has always worked. "Lights up" is maybe a misnomer as in VPX13 it is greyed out and cannot be selected. In VPX12 and MEP, it is not greyed out and you can select it or right click on it, with or without anything being selected in the Media Pool.

My tutorial on Basic Editing 1 shows how it works.

Thanks,

John CB

Hi John

This is what I am getting - I had to set the In/Out points without playing the clip as this crashes VPX 13.

As you can see the button is 'lighting up' ie changing to blue when the mouse is over it
