I agree about the Size/Position/Rotation. in fact I think the new Size/Position/Rotation (to MEP anyway) is a backwards step as whatever I do seems to affect the whole sequence irrespective of the Camera/Zoom settings as there is no create button for that particular keyframe. I may have the whole idea of it wrong and it may come to me in a flash as to how to use it one day; I live in hope.

For what it's worth I received a reply from him on the sticky https://www.magix.info/us/forum/release-movie-edit-pro-2022-your-experiences-your-movies--1281607

Hi John CB.

It is still in my copy of VPX 11 as well.

The only third party effects I have from previous versions within MEP are these.

The rest are the stand-alones. Hide and ReSpeeder.

The other two video stabilizing plugins I showed earlier must come from one of the other packages above. Possibly Elements 3.

I agree on the Vegas version.

Camera/Zoom is the same as Size & Position, with an alternative method of creating the effect by dragging the marquee around, the same parameters are changed ie width, height, left, top - there is no separate 'keyframing' for this effect.

If you set a Camera/Zoom effect on an object then start changing the Size & Position paramters you are changing what has already been set.

I rarely use the Camera/Zoom effect preferring to use Size and Position

Andy, you're not talking about "Section", are you? Section can't be keyframed, but you can Section a video and then apply Camera/Zoom Shot (or Size-Position) to it with keyframes. It did take me 15 years to work that out, BTW! 😂

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Greetings John, exactly my point.

This is for anyone that can help if they will please.

I would like to ask what is probably an incredibly stupid question. Bearing in mind that I have been creating slideshows with MEP for years and I'm obviously stuck in my ways (but willing to change), how do I do a simple zoom on a photo with MEP 2022?

Example - take an innocuous phote such as this:

And load into MEP2022 with a photo length of 20 seconds

The clip will start at 0 seconds then zoom to the top left at 8 seconds with a slight rotation of 2.2 degrees anti-clockwise

then the picture will scroll to the right until the end of the clip and the rotation will return to 0 degrees

When I review the clip I need to make a slight adjustment in position/rotation without affecting position 1 or 3.

That's it. See, I said it was a probably a silly question and I'm quite prepared to be ridiculed. A 10 second job in MEP 2021, 1 hour+ so far this morning in MEP 2022

Hi Andy

I suspect what may be confusing you are the following:

The reference point for the Position parameters is no longer top left (0,0), it is now the centre of the preview monitor.

When you unset 'Combine both fields' the width, height parameters become independant both for adjustment and keyframing - each parameter has to be clicked on and a keyframe set.

Try the following - this is from memory as I do not have MEP 2022 on my laptop yet:

Using your example:

  1. start at 0 seconds - set keyframes for width, height, position and rotation, you need to click each parameter and set the keyframe for it.

  2. zoom to the top left at 8 seconds with a slight rotation of 2.2 degrees anti-clockwise - position the timeline cursor at 8 secs and repeat the keyframing as in 1, you can copy/paste the keyframes, this locks the position etc for the fist 8 seconds

Assuming you want a one second zoom - move the cursor to 9 secs, set the width, height, rotation, keyframing each individually if they are not automatically added after each parameter change, and then drag the image to get the part you want visible in the monitor - set rotation and position keyframes if not added automatically.

More fiddling then the old way, however more versatile

OK, got it I think. Thanks John

So the key to the process is to use the surely risky unchecking of "combine input fields" then toggle between Size/Position/Rotation and Camera/zoom adjusting as required?

It works - hooray - but far more of a faff than the same procedure in previous versions. I stand by my previous comment somewhere above that this is a backward, and definitely risky (if I want to alter width & height in proportion from Size/Position/Rotation}, update. I'm glad I can adjust the number of undo's.

However, if it's here to stay I'd better get used to it.

Hi Andy

. . . . if I want to alter width & height in proportion from Size/Position/Rotation . . . .

In that case leave the Combine both fields option checked, this used to be the check box called Maintain proportions.

. . . . I stand by my previous comment somewhere above that this is a backward . . . .

More faff yes, however there were apparently a lot of requests for being able to move the centre of rotation of an object instead of just its centre axis, not sure why, as I find doing this visually disturbing. IIRC a user did comment on this and ask for an option to turn this on/off.

Perhaps users who are into cartoon style animations would find it useful to for example 'walk' an image onto the screen

Hi Andy,

I'm testing this in VPX13 as I don't have MEP2022.

I just found that to turn on the kf + button, click on the Size/Position in the kf area, then click on a blank area of the effect and the +kf button turns on. Click the +kf button and kf's will be set for all values.

Once you have some keyframes, if you click on the eye button beside one of the parameters, does it turn on the curve on the object in the preview monitor? In VPX, it does not.

@johnebaker

Hi John EB,

Sequence of rotations. I still don't understand how this works, but, put some rotation using all 3 XYZ. Then start changing the sequence and you'll see that the image changes rotation. Try with just 2 of the rotations. Try with the anchor point at the upper left.

As best I can figure, with XYZ, using just X and Z rotations, X is applied, then Z rotates that plane. With ZXY or ZYX, Z is applied then X rotates that plane.

Have you seen anything on how this actually works or can be used? There is more flexibility than before, but understanding it is the problem.

Before, the rotation handle was movement about the Z-axis, which was logical, at least to me. Moving the anchor point allows rotation about it, which is great. All 3 rotations are about the anchor point. However, rotation about the Z-axis is the most commonly used rotation, I would think.

I think that with a few tweaks, this whole thing could work satisfactorily, at least for me.

  1. Rotation handle is needed on the image for the Z-axis as before. It's just more intuitive and easy.
  2. An alternative would be to have a select button for the rotation handle X, Y or Z, with Z as the default. I just prefer doing it on the preview monitor rather than using the rotation button.
  3. Moving the anchor point on the preview monitor over a node should snap to the node.
  4. Add a button to select the anchor point position.
  5. Add back the Zoom slider/percentage tool. I work with percentages, not the object size. Different project settings for resolution have different object sizes to have to figure out (half of 720, 1080or 2160 is...), but just putting 50 percent is easy.
  6. Edit (suggested by Basel) - The mouse pointer should change when over the anchor point so that one knows that the anchor point is selected for movement and not the image
  7. Edit (suggested by Basel) - Restrict horizontal and vertical movements whilst dragging using Ctrl and Shift (or some other combination).
  8. A great feature for the future would be snap to other object edges in the Preview Monitor to line up objects with each other (horizontally and vertically) like in Xara.

@johnebaker

Found by Basel - Note that there a potential bug. You cannot zoom in the preview monitor (Ctrl+mouse wheel and Ctrl double click)) if the cursor is inside the box, which it usually would be as soon as Size/Position/Rotation is activated.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! What a wonderful find. It makes life a little more simple. Thanks for that.

As for "does it turn on the curve on the object in the preview monitor" I'm afraid it doesn't.

EDIT - Just noticed it does put some sort of curve on the timeline but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I wonder what other hidden little gems there are?

@Moderators

As so much is being found out about MEP 2022 reasonably quickly, is it worth having a Moderator only topic (i.ee we plebs can't comment on it) to pull together all the problems and workrounds instead of them all being spread over at least 4 topics, which I'm sure will grow with time? It may save space, time and effort.

Make the track bigger and you should see the nodes that correspond to the keyframes for that effect. Try moving a kf and the node should move. Move the node and the kf should move. The corresponding value will also change.

Hi John EB,

Here is the link to the tutorial in German.

Here is the quick and dirty English translation in DropBox.

Rotation XZ and ZX:

With X before Z, give X a rotation of 45. It rotates back about the X-axis. Now start adding Z clockwise and the image rotates about the z-axis (at the node). Z=45, play with the X tool and you'll see that the rotation is about a moved X axis that goes through the red nodes. Watch the red nodes; they don't move.

With Z before X, give X a rotation of 45. Now start adding Z clockwise and the image rotates clockwise without change. Z=45, play with X tool and you'll see that the image rotates about the normal X axis. Watch the red nodes; they move.

Do the same with XY and YX. Note the differences.

Try with YZ and ZY. In the first case, the Y axis changes with Z. In the second case, the Y axis is vertical on the screen.

I still can't describe exactly how each works. It'll come, I hope.

More on the Rotation XYZ feature.

With a text object, try moving the Anchor Point to the upper left node. This makes it easier to see what happens when switching from XYZ to one of the other ones. The first one rotates about its axis which moves depending on the next ones. Thus XYZ, test with X to 45, then give Y 45, then play with X to see that the rotation is about the X-axis as modified by Y. Put Y back to 0 and put Z at 45 then play with X. The image swings about the modified X-axis.

Change to ZXY. Rotate Z to see what it does. Stop at 45, then play with X. You'll see the image rotate about the normal X axis, which it horizontal on the screen and through the anchor point. Stop X at 45 and play with Z. The Z axis is not normal to the screen, but is slanted. You can't see it, but watch how the image rotates. It's not like the first case with XYZ.

Etc.

So, the first one listed gets its axis moved depending on the next one. I haven't deciphered the impact of the third one. For example, for ZXY and ZYX, if X and Y are both set to something other than 0, the rotating using Z is different for each case. How, remains to be discovered.

Greeetings,

What is particularly perverse is that on Friday last I had an email prompting me to fork out some more money for the update service at £59.99 and yet the offer for MEP 2022 Premium is for £49.99.

Hmm. I thought I would renew my Update Service today after I had an email from Magix about the Subscription Service with a saving of £2.00

I went through the various pages to buy the service and on the Order Summary page I looked at "subscription and cancellation conditions".I suppose, with hindsight, I should have realised what Subscription Service maenat - that the service renews automatically unless it is cancelled by emailing Magix (and no doubt jumping through a few hoops) stating you want to cancel.

I clicked on an earlier Update Service email that had alledgedly expired on August 29 and it went thorugh without a hitch. I have the new NewBlue filters and Sound Forge Audio Studio 14 offered with the sunscription, although it did cost me £2 more, but I don't have an automatic renewing subscription

I know it's easy enough to cancel a subscription but it's the principal..

Hi everyone.  I'm very confused with MEP Premium 2022.  I am able to import movie files into MEP 2022 by dragging the individual file from a folder straight into the storyline.  I've been able to successfully edit a movie and even export the movie into a file on my hard drive and it plays perfectly.  However, I have been unable to make a Blue Ray disc of my movie using MEP Pro Premium 2022.  MEP Pro Premium 2022 will not successfully encode the movie; there are so may errors and fatale errors that I unable to actually understand exactly what is going on.  I never had any of these issues while using MEP Pro Premium 2021 and I'm not doing anything different when creating movies using MEP Pro Premium 2022. I'll include the datafile log information here and maybe someone from the community can tell me what my problems are.

😫 Ok, I've read through the thread. There is a lot of interesting stuff here. And the new version has a lot of potential and cool new things. I had Movie Edit Pro Premium (2020), then I updated to Movie Edit Pro Premium (2022). I have been working with MEPP for a while now. I started with the cheep $99 program back in 2015 and have upgraded every chance I get. I really love the program. Until now. I really hope that I just have to learn the new way of doing things and not go to using another program. I am a very visual person and would apricate visual tutorials on the changes and how to do things now. I have searched YouTube with no results as it pertains to the new 2022 version.

My biggest issue is that I like to edit things manually, I do not prefer to use pre-set movement, zoom, tilt, etc. I like to make things do what I want them to do. I'm very picky that way. I've been working for two days trying to figure out the new way of doing things. Needless to say, I am frustrated.

I am trying to do things similar to what I've done before. For example in this video from the beginning up to around marker 00:32. At first I was having trouble even being able to add a Keyframe. Now I have figured that out (thanks @browj2), and now I'm trying to make one Keyframe have different properties than the other. Every time I change one, it changes all.

Please, any help is appreciated. Visual help even more. Videos needed badly.

Thank you so much!

😃

If you understand German, I may have found a video that may help (at least it's helping me a little).

go to around marker 6:55. He'll start talking about KFs and Anchor Points.

Yeah, I'm silly that way... answering myself. But, hey someone may be having the same issue.

-----
Also found this, in German. I understand very little German but because it is a video, it is helping some. Anyone able to translate? It does have a transcript in German.

-----

I have also found this video. It's not the exact same program, but the XYZ effects window looks and operates the same. And again, it's in German. Look around marker 14:42.

I'm still having issues. Anyone having the same issues? Anyone able to help?
