Hi Andy,

Good question indeed!

My understanding is that "upgrades" are available to anyone who owns a valid Magix product, even if it is not the "same" as the one being upgraded. OTOH, I think the system may not allow you to buy an upgrade if it considers you are not entitled to do so!

Clearly, if you do decide to attempt the upgrade route and the installation fails for any reason, you are entitled to a refund within 14 days of purchase I believe.

Excellent thanks again Jeff, that's what I thought as Magix DOES allow me to order it after logging in.

So now the question (only I can answer probably) is; do I buy the "cheaper" Photostory never to be used or do I buy VPX at twice the price but I will use?

After writing my previous post I emailed infoservice@magix.net asking if I can puirchase the VPX / Photostory upgrade version as I already had MS2023. The reply came 5 minutes ago:

Yes, with the Movie Studio version you will have the option to order the upgrade offers

Result, now I need that strong cup of tea.

Hi Andy,

Definitely VPX14...but...it came out on May 19 so VPX15 with some bugs fixed and new undocumented features should be out around that time. Since there is no more Update Service, you may want to wait. It's always the same - a newer model/version is coming.

Thanks John, that info re VPX15 is priceless - I'd not put that into the thinking. I see no point in jumping to a program that is known to have bugs that aren't going to be fixed (I've done that so often with MEP/MS)

Unfortunately this offer for Mercalli V6 expires 17 January and not knowing whether the Mercalli Pro V6 plugin will be offered with the VPX15 at launch I think I'll go with the much cheaper Photostory option as, after all, it's only really the Mercalli V6 I want at the moment. My grandson says he can make use of it.

Of course Sod's Law does predict that when VPX15 is released it will have Mercalli V6 or some equally tempting plugins as a sweetener. I'll wait until you and all the other stalwarts on here have tried it though before I take the plunge.

Well, the Mercalli Pro V6 plugins work well if I use only one of them on a clip. If I try to use two then it's hair pulling out time. Let me explain.

If I use the Mercalli Pro Stablizer by itself it's excellent. If I then try to use the Picture Enhanzr(?) the whole thing hives up. If I try adding them the other way round the same happens. Both entries in the Keyframe window have the same name and sub bits - the name depending on which I used first.

If I use CMOS Stabilizr(?) on an MP4 or HEVC file then all is well. If I try it on an old AVI (from a VHS tape be it DV or Lagarith or Huff) a logo appears:

All was well in Mercalli Pro V5 that I have but it's 2 years are almost up which is why I went through this V6 exercise.

Does anyone else have these plugins to see if it happens on their system or is it me - I don't think so.

I'm not sure I've ever tried to use two components of the plugin simultaneously, and I don't have time to test it today, sorry. Maybe tomorrow.

However, the logo you show a screenshot of is exactly what I would expect to see! Did you try doing what it says and pressing the "Analyze" button on the "Mercalli Pro" screen, towards the upper right hand side? If so, what happened? What I would expect to see is analysis of the clip taking place prior to you being able to play it back.

I have to admit I don't remember using those two components together, I noticed it while plaung with mercalli to see any improvements over V5. The point is I can't at the moment if I wanted to.

I've had V5 for the past couple of years, its about the only 3rd party plugin i use apart from the NewBlue Essentials. I did press Analyze as a matter of course..

In the first clip I pressed Enhanzr first and then Mercalli Pro - analyse unavailable.

In the second video at the start (it's very quick 'cos only a 15 second clip) it shows Mercalli Pro's analysing but then Enhanzr's buttons and sliders do not work.

And the logo in CMOS does not appear with an MP4 or HEVC or WMV file only AVI and MPG. EDIT yes it does - with SD files of low resolution and / or bitrate.

I look forward to your results.

ps Forgot to mention I installed the Photostory Deluxe I bought to try the Mercalli plugin. It has exactly the same problem unsurprisingly.

Hi Andy,

I can reproduce this using both MMS Suite 2023 and VPX 14; the "first" use of Mercalli Pro 6 Magix plugin seems to be fine, the second on the same clip not so.

What I'm not sure about is whether this is "new" to version 6 or was also present in version 5. I suspect it was not!

I also have the SAL of Mercalli 6. Unfortunately, perhaps, its controls are considerably different to those of the plugin so I cannot directly compare the operation of the two, but I think the SAL does allow the Stabilisation and some degree of picture enhancement to operate simultaneously and be independent in terms of controls.

I hope ProDAD will be able to offer some guidance on this, hopefully also a solution! In the specific situation I don't think this is a Magix-created problem, though it could well be!

Thanks Jeff, it's such a relief it's not just me. I'm at the age where I have to second think things.

I've been playing about with it this afternoon and unistalled 6 and reinstalled 5 as a trial. The v5 effects worked perfectly allowing 2 or more without corruption.

I was going to return Photostory with a presumed loss of Mercalli V6 as well but now you've confirmed the problem there must be many others that are going to be miffed and so I mught hang on to it to see what happens. Admittedly it must be rare to use to components on the same clip; I didn't until I started playing yesterday so maybe it could go unnoticed. That's not the point though. It could be said that Mercalli 6 is not fit for purpose.

Did you get your Mercalli for Magix from Prodad with their offer or from Magix with one of their offers? The Magix download is 50,504Kb.

My Mercalli 6 SAL came with a recent upgrade, VPX 14 I think, so direct from Magix.

The plugin upgrade I bought direct from ProDAD.

Andy, same here. The second effect opened doesn't work here, as you've found. I got the Mercalli 6 upgrade direct from Prodad (the $79 offer). Not sure where the Enhanzer came from, probably the Mercalli 5 upgrade via a Magix offer last year.

Just had a reply back from ProDAD:

The CMOS Fixr only works if CMOS errors are also available in the video. If there are no vibration or wobble effects in the video, the CMOS Fixr cannot work.

That are different MAGIX problems, we have already forwarded it to MAGIX and now hope for a quick solution.

Currently, only a Mercalli effect can be applied to a video simultaneously as a plug-in in MAGIX 2023. If you now also want to apply the CMOS Fixr, then you have to do this in 2 steps and export the video once in between and import it again in order to be able to apply the CMOS Fixr to it. The problem is not a Mercalli plugin problem.

The same applies if you want to use Picture Enhanzr with any other Mercalli Pro Component.

Interesting though that this problem is NOT present when using Mercalli v5, as you confirmed! I realise ProDAD are certain this is a Magix-created problem but I am, I will freely admit, "yet to be convinced"!. Did you tell ProDAD that this problem did not occur with v5?

There's an update for Mercalli Pro V6 plugin for Magix - version is 6.0.671.1

It didn't say what the changes are but CMOS FIXR now works without a logo on all resolutions. I mentioned this bug earlier in this post.

The Magix bug of showing 2 Mercalli effects with the same name is stiil there.
