MEP 14 crashing/freezing... im at my wits end!

badanus13 wrote on 6/22/2015, 6:16 AM

EDIT (NOT THE LAST ONE ).. ok so i just had a quick go of the titler ex, and Knoll Light Factory, and it crashed, (only once in 30mins) so far, but i basically made a basic text, the weent to add some light factory effects... and it just crawled to a halt, seriously is my pc that sh*t,

a friend of mine does uses blender, crysis engine making things etc on a average laptop without issue, but what my rig cant even support these so called premium extras, this is freaking ridiculous,

i know again everyone is trying to help, and even though i should not have to have upgraded, i did, my choice as it had for one full 64bit support and alot of what looked cool, new features, now i go from one thing to a bloddy other :(

EDIT LAST (HOPEFULLY :)..      : )

hi guys, well i finally bit the bullet and just finished downloading to the digital version of MEP 2015 PREMIUM, but beofre i even get started doinh anything as stated earlier, could i get some help setting up everthing OTHER THAN PROGRAM ITSELF as i  WANT TO LEAVE ON C DRIVE )

but all (my projects etc )  to be on my....MOVIES (F) drive,

also

proxy and preview rendering settings

and lastly

help setting program  settings up to suit my system the best way possible

EDIT THREE:

hey guys, as everyone has tried to help but im really getting nowhere fixing this issue, i was considering upgrading to the MEP2015 premium, but its very exp in asutralian dollars, but if i di for future reference my

c-drive is a small ssd, and i have a large second drive i would want to keep all my work, so if i want to put prgram on c, and my videos, edits etc.. evrything else on my second (i call it ) movies drive, how would i go about setting this up

so program itself  on Windows (c)

and my vids for editing (are already on) Movies (F)

but i would want my actaully edits etc to be saved there also

EDIT TWO: i have only (oops) just noticed mep2014 is installed in the PROGRAM FILES (x86) folder?? could simply uninstalling an re-installing to PROGRAM FILES change anything???????

EDIT: i have updated with a heap of info below (in replies to you guys )  and i just wanted to say thak you to eveyone that is trying to help, really appreciate it, thanks again :)

i cant take................. mep 14, anymore, im at my wits end, iv owned 3 previous versions without issue ONCE! ever..

yet mep14 constantly freezes, crashes randomly, never auto saves, and 1-20 times it might try to retrieve my work

iv posted here a few times, with someone who has actually tried to help unlike the WOEFUL tech support wich iv contacted a few times with absolutely no help from them at all.. considering iv been a supporter of magix edit pro for quite a while now, you would think it would been something... but no!

iv tried every fix every/anyone has ever given me, this is my second pc build since i purchased mep 14, with a major upgrade, i7 4790k, 16gb ram, zboard, dual gtx 770s etc ..(even tried turning single and dual cards, with no fix )  i still get the random freezes, crashes ALL THE FREAKING TIME................ WHY?...

:(

ps... heres a previous thread from not to long ago

http://www.magix.info/us/magix-edit-pro-constantly-freezing..-still-after-a-year.knowledge.1130263.html

pss... i just went over to support again and i have to buy*** a ticket to get help again, even though they did nothing, are they fudging serious, un-freaking-believable!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, you are not by any chance running a 32bit version of Movie editor, am not sure if this would cause your problem, as maybe the program has only access to a small amount of your installed ram, there would be no point in it seeing more as 32bit windows is limited to the ram it can acces, unless this was specifically changed to make mep run on 64 bit, I am not too sure, but isnt mep 2015 the first true 64 bit version, thus will be the version capable of utilising 64 bit computing.

Edited: have you tried running the editor under compatability settings, just a thought, or if you installed the program under the admin account, try running it from a standard user account.

You should also ensure there are no conflicting programs or processes running, have you this problem with any other 32 or 64 bit editor on these same systems, have you tried opening a different file, like one that was not tampered or edited with another or Magix editor, how big is the file you are trying to work with.

You should also ensure windows is managing your page file, stop your antivirus if you have one installed to see if it helps, sometines antivirus program are set to scan every file you open, also I see from the link, that sometimes you are attempting to run the program twice, which would happen if you clicked yes on the popup screen, as suggested in the other post, look under task manager and ensure you are not already running the program, if you are stop it, and restart it again, this happens me with the 2015 editor, i seem to click too fast, soon learned not to.

Regards, john

First thankyou for the reply, and i do run 64bit windows... , not even official support referred to that when they TRIED??! to help, not that they were any, but maybe that could be a issue, i honstly have no idea but can i check ? in/on the program,  i have mep2014 plus edition and it does say on the side of the box 32 and 64but systems, my pc upgrade was a completely new pc, with a fresh install of mep... ( assuming it would fix the issue )

yes i have tried running in compat mode, with only one card enabled, uninstalled an re-installed, even setting another user here as suggested trying to help me

conflicting programs... i wouldnt even know how to check that ( im sorry ) ?

yes i did try turning my kaspersky anti-virus off, did not fix a thing!

i just dont get how two seperate pcs can pruduce exactly the same issue, basically i be moving up and down the video im editing, chopping, trimming, mixing etc... then it just freezes, crashes, iv even open the window to show my cpu, ram usage etc... and when ever it freezes, its eg 6-15% an 20-40%.. and i cant find any sort of pattern, it can happen within secs... or even hours, but its constant eg.. tonight i edit for about id say 4-5 hrs and  after about a hour and a half it proceeded to crash over an over an over.. id say about 20times through the remainder until i got to angry, raged out and posted on here, even more annoying is i thought i would give theofficial support ago again only to find out they want me to pay... for a token!, disgusting if u ask me, but anyway again i thankyou for your help and i do hope anything further i have put here can help you give me anymore advice so i can finally FIX THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL...

Hi badanus13

From your previous posts you have MEP 2014 - can you please continue to refer to this as MEP2014  to avoid confusion with MEP 14 which is still used by a few members - thanks.

As you have already carried out the hardware check to determine if the problem is a hardware compatability issue,  the next step is to investigate if there is a software or driver conflict which is causing the problem - for this you need some diagnostics from Magix.

I would send an email to support at Magix for help, explaining that this has been an ongoing problem and point them to all your posts in the forum on the issue.

sorry, yes mep2014... ( i will refer to it as such )

and iv already done this back when i got the program ( twice actually ) and they were no! help at all.. and as i said iv been a long time customer without one single issue using previous versions, and i find it disgusting that i would have to actually pay/purchase a token for support as its so called expired

Hi badanus13

. . . . sorry, yes mep2014... ( i will refer to it as such ) . . .

Many thanks for that.

We also appreciate the frustration that is caused when a system crashes regularly as in your case.

Resolution of software conflicts is a long process and good diagnostic software is not readily available to the home user.

However you could start by following this tutorial here to see if you can isolate the problem.

Here is a link to Magix Support, select the bottom option, https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/request

From what I gather you are using a 32bit program, which according to the box will run on 32 or 64bit systems, this is of course correct. But while the extra resources provided by a 64bit operating system are there, is the 32bit program designed to use them, I would say no, the reason being, 32bit systems could and only see about 4 gig of ram, so why design the program to use more,  this means your program will be running at high speed on a powerfull system that then reaches a bottleneck, I have no idea of the outcome of this, but am guessing if it is not the direct culptrit it certainly is a big problem.

I also base this on my own experience from last year, when I downloaded a 32 bit version, and could not get it to run at all, I gave up, until I tried again this year with a 64 bit version, and as I explained, it works, where the other would not, I did most of the same pre install stuff last year too, but no go, dead slow, then crash, this years offering does not crash, it only ever froze, before I tuned and sorted my computer, and now it runs.

Just check you did not manually set the size of your page file, if you did, make it bigger, if this does not help, set it to the setting, let windows manage my page file, leave your manuyally inputted settings alone, just let windows do it at that point, go to system>advanced system settings>advanced>advanced again> then select adjust for best performance, look below this and you will see the current page file size, just take note of it, and click the change button, and let windows manage this file. This file can be manually increased to three times the amount of ram in your system, but in most cases including mine, windows does a better job, thats not to say you will have the same result, but it is worth trying.

Also look into your computers power settings, I am asuming it is a desktop, but there may be settings there that allow your computer to cut down on power or sleep or hibernate, ensure they are all off. Also check where you installed your computers ram, the motherboard instructions here are critical, as the board may work better with the ram in say the first two slots, or if stated by the board documentation otherwise. Defragment you rard drive too, first check it for errors, right click on c which is probably the drive your os is on, and right click it, then click propertis, then tools, then check, after this click the defragment button below check, let check finish first.

Also make sure your computers bios is up to date, check out what bios version is installed and go to the providers website and look for any update, also ensure windows is up to date, and your motherboard may have come with drivers, check for updates for them too, also go to your hd manufacturers site and update the disk drivers, these  things need to be done in any event and should have been done after assembly, you never know until you try,, do you know if mep 14 32bit works for others on similar 64bit systems with the same os as yours, all things to ask Magix support too, give them your product number and ensure it was designed for your os.

You don't say what motherboard you are using, or what power supply you are using to drive your build, I notice the graphics cards alone are 230 watt each, eventhough the onboard graphics on your cpu should run this program, you say you have built two pc's are they identical, are the power supplys of adequet size, a dodgy  power supply can cause a lot of problems, edit a little for a long tim, or a lot for a short time, will heat things up in similar fashion, hense no obvious pattern to the crashing problem, these graphic cards you use also require the appropriate high speed bus, have you matched all this up. Just thinking over your prediciiment, a few hours checking and updating everything I mentioned in my previous post would at least eliminate computer configuration errors.

A trial run with the 2015 64bit version of mep pro plus would be a very quick way to establish if it is a program compatability issue or a computer configuration one, just make sure to get the program update as soon as the program installs, but the computer configuration approach should not be overlooked in any event.

Hi,I asked about the spec to rule out compatabillity issues, in particular a bottleneck regarding memory access, as you built the computer I was kind hoping you would have been familiar with the layoyt of the motherboard regarding ram placement , the other thing is the power supply, as a dodgy one of thes can cause all sorts of issues like yours, and given the fact you built two computers, I asked were they identical, because you could have bought identical problematic components, I can not answer these questions.

The best way to rule out a lot of this, is to try a 64bit version of Magix Editor Pro,

And also ensure the drivers for your computer are all up to date, including the os, and bios.

Maybe try this above aproach.

Hi,

I just went through a crashing problem myself with VPX7. The solution was to delete the .ini file. For MEP2014, this would be Videodeluxe.ini under:

C:\Users\User_name\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2014 Plus

and there may be another one in the same area but under a folder something like VideodeluxeXXXX.

You will lose any settings and restarting MEP will cause it to create a new ini file.

You indicated that you had random crashes, but now they seem to be regular crashes. It would help to note if there is any pattern, like using a particular effect, type of file, command, etc., that could cause a crash. In my case, it was after using a plugin and it caused the program to crash whenever I clicked on the Effects tab, even in a new project. Also note any other programs running. Any that do audio or video could cause a conflict, like Skype.

Watch for a crash when you navigate to a certain folder. If that happens, there may be a corrupt video file in the folder and wneh MEP tries to preview it, it can't and crashes. I had this problem as well.

As suggested, try MEP2015 Plus or Premium trial, 64 bit version, to see if it works fine or gives crashes.

Lastly, you may want to try re-installing MEP after removing the existing one using a program like Revo Uninstaller to get rid of everything associated with MEP in the registry, etc., without touching the Magix project files under My documents.

@john CB, good points about corrupt files, I had this in another editor that drove me nuts, problem was a corrupt mp4, that would open in vlc and wmp, yet not the editor, and would it hell play in lightbox or media player of any kind from or withing a browser, which was what I was after.

Either way, interesting problem, with interesting approaches to solving it, and hopefully it will be resolved,

Regards to all, johnp

Regards, johnp

iv posted a heap more info, but i will try the 2014 64bit version, as you said and get back here to let you know, and i really do appreciate evryones help, thank you

When you reply, if you use quotes, please type in the area outside of the quote area. Your answers are difficult to find in your replies as they are mixed in with the quote.

Good luck!

When you reply, if you use quotes, please type in the area outside of the quote area. Your answers are difficult to find in your replies as they are mixed in with the quote.

Good luck!

im donloading trial of premium now but ..

i assuem as i just clicked download, its the 64bit version  by default????

Should be 64bit by default. It should install itself in the Program file, not Program Files (86).

MEP2014 is 32bit and it goes in the ...(86) directory. MEP2015, if you download the 64bit version, goes in the non (86) directory. All programs are like this, so don't move anything.

Hi

Do you have or do any of the following occur:

Steam installed?

Windows Explorer takes ages to open a folder - as seen by a green bar slowly moving left to right?

Also see this topic and the sub links in the answer.

Hi, reading the exception code  c0000005 eight lines from the bottom of your question, has brought me to point this out,

Try and use a 64bit program, this is not  a memory module problem.

Hi

...the program tried to access No Mans Land.

The way I have understood this is that the program has tried to access a memory address that is reserved for the OS or is in use by another application. I have seen this from time to time with all 32 bit versions of MEP and it often occurs when RAM usage gets up to about 2.8Gigs. When this happens I save often and use the Empty Undo and Memory Cache command in the Edit Menu, or restart the program.

It will be interesting to see if this occurs in the 64Bit 2015 version but I have only recently installed this on a New Surface Pro3 with 4GB of RAM - so far so good!

Yes, this error occurs when a program tries to acces a resource that is not available, even though when the program opened it was allocated this resource, this is windows fault, the resource in question was either not previously released but was marked as such, or was released when in fact it was still in use, thus no mans land, and unavailable to the program. The error is a general protection error, but the unauthorised acces part does not reffer to the reserved areas the os uses.

Given the resource restrictions of 32bit, and the nature of a video editor for such resources, then these things are more likely to happen as the struggle for resources unfolds, 64 bit systems should fare better, and windows should be getting better too and the chances of such errors should be a lot less, but we are talking microsoft, who seem to leave their users in a continual up hill battle of fixing and breaking and fixing, we have two macbook pros at home, and I can't wait until there is three, failing this, linux will be my next choice. It is ridiculous how many gb of updates, a windows user has to download, they are not updates at all, they are fixes for problems that should never exist in the first place, and are only here becasue of greed, to continually keep us spending on the next big all singing all dancing piece of junk microsoft can produce.

Edit: what Scenestealer says in relation to emptying the programs undo and memory cache is what I have always practiced, as I found it reduced or completely eliminated problems that would otherwise seriously hinder work flow, simple things like this make a big difference.
