Intel driver constant update pain

Restarted PC, 9316 is still on Task manager,

in settings the Advanced option - Receive updates for other Microsoft products is still switched off,

I tried Windows update-Check for updates again to see if it would put 8280 back on but no 👍😊 it didn't,

we'll see how it goes, hopefully 9316 will stick & i'll just get notifications from Intel driver & support software, to install new drivers,

Hi Gid.

Can I ask why you have 'Download updates over metered connections' switched on?

Do you have a cap on you internet connection?

I think you can only delay critical updates by one month tops.

Can you view your driver update history in settings?

Ray.

@CubeAce nope no reason n no metered connection, i pay for super fast broadband, or that's what hey call it 😂

they have always been set to On n i've never needed to look at it 🤷‍♂️

good point tho, that'll get that switched off 👍

in fact i just did 👍

yeah driver update settings i posted a pic of earlier but this is how it looks right now

same as before, 9316 on Task manager but Driver updates show 8280, that was the Windows update i did today, 07/03/2021

the 8280 driver it showed before was a different date 03/03/2021, which prompted me to come back to the post but It has never shown a later driver like 9316

interesting, last night after the discussion on the Chromakey post 'Chromakey issues 2020 version'

I decided to give the Trial version of Vegas Pro 18 a go,

I've only just opened it, registered it with the Trial Activation code,

I haven't done anything with the program yet apart from go to help-check for updates &

this box has popped up

that's the driver Task manager says is running but Driver updates in settings denies being loaded,

I'm going to update n see what happens 🤷‍♂️🤣

Former user wrote on 3/7/2021, 2:37 PM

It downloaded 9316 to the downloads folder, i installed as i have before, restarted PC then had a look,

Task manager says 9316 but settings-driver updates shows 8280 just as before, no change,

Hi

. . . . Task manager says 9316 but settings-driver updates shows 8280 just as before, no change, . . . .

Download and install the Intel Graphics Command Centre if you do not have this already and see which driver it says you have installed?

Hi Gid.

Have you ever used a registry cleaner or similar?

I'm beginning to think you have problems not easily solved and needs registry fixing or a new install of Windows. I have as much aversion to the registry editor as you have to touching the bios.

I'm not a fan of third party apps that alter any part of Windows.

I apparently have 402 broken registry items I have never touched and the machine still going strong. Most I think linked to hard drives not currently on my system but can't be positive about, and 7GB of junk of which I can only track down 6GBs worth.

The 6GBs of junk I can delete at any time but don't clean junk too often. Only if I see performance dropping off.

Do you have a backup C: drive?

Ray.

@johnebaker I did have that graphics command centre but uninstalled it along with Intel driver & support software but as i now think it is the windows update with Receive updates for other Microsoft products switched on was the problem I'll reinstall 👍

Done

(Just in case anybody else reads this, this was the link i had to click on that link you posted John EB 👍 https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/intel-graphics-control-panel/9ndlclmmtmrc?rtc=1&activetab=pivot:overviewtab)

No backup c drive, not that i know of, for cleaning i just use Advanced System Care, the free version, but like you say it always tells me there's more i can clean but the PC seems to be fine as is, when the PC does get a bit grumpy cleaning seems to fix it & the amount of free space on the hardrive doesn't get any bigger except when i install stuff like new programs or media,

I need to let it do it's thing for a few days, hoping that switching off Receive updates for other Microsoft products fixes the problem, it was a bit of a revelation to see this windows update reinstalling 8280,

caught in the act you might say.

Former user wrote on 3/9/2021, 10:05 AM

@CubeAce @johnebaker Well that didn't last long, Receive updates for Microsoft products is still off so that didn't fix it

so i rolled back driver in Device manager

Graphics Command Center doesn't know it's arse from it's elbow

@johnebaker Thanks, after i read the link it mentions the cleaner on their PC so i cleaned mine to see if it had put back the driver to 8280. but nope it didn't, not that time anyway, It's still at 9316 after i rolled it back to that the other day in Device manager, I'll let you know if i find the culprit 😉👍
