Importing video file saved from camera - no audio in Movie Studio

@johnebaker Yep version 1.6.1 (2023012300)

Adobe AE is like Disney's chipmunks

Former user wrote on 6/10/2023, 12:50 PM

@johnebaker Yep i wrote about it not showing in resolve just after i'd shared that file, 👍 I'm not sure why handbrake is saying that it's got 2 channels & whether it's correct or not, my other two recorders say mono/1 channel, but i suspect they might be old software like your version of handbrake & i sort of trust Handbrake more, the newer one, that is unless all the modern software is fooled & the old software sees the truth 😂😂🤷‍♂️

Two videos that won't import audio are linked here:
the first one is shorter, only a few seconds. the second is 10 minutes long.

@Terry-Schmidt Hi, no sound here, no sound after render with Handbrake either, that's the same for both clips.

@johnebaker My Handbrake shows two channels for NORM0004, my other converters show only 1 like in my image above,

Adobe Encoder doesn't export any sound & the info seems to say Stereo

Vegas just plays a nasty buzzing noise.

Former user wrote on 6/11/2023, 1:29 AM

Dragged onto Google Chrome I can get sound but the volume has to be at max & it doesn't sound good, wind noise I guess because I'm presuming your bike isn't dragging a steel gate 🤔😂

Greetings all,

Once again I turn up late for the party only to find that the conversation appears to have become bogged down with discussion about what does import the file with audio, what doesn't import it with audio and what programs register whether it's 2 channel or 1 channel and why. All good but maybe veering off the point.

One thing everyone does accept is that MS2023 does not like the audio on these files in which case, and please correct me if I'm wrong, all Terry (@Terry-Schmidt) wants to know is what can he do about it. Good suggestions have been made:

  • Handbrake - excellent BUT re-encodes the video so maybe not quite what he wants.
  • Avidemux - again excellent and is my go-to program for this kind of problem BUT if he has several videos to convert then Avidemux can be a little time consuming (although there is a way of performing batch conversion as I described elsewhere on this forum).
  • Use a free 3rd party app. I use Pazera Free MP4 Video Converter https://www.pazera-software.com/products/mp4-converter/ which can import lots of files at the same time, but other 3rd party batch conversion apps work just as well

I use Pazera because it is quick and above all simple (which is essential in my case) - select "copy original video stream", set audio to "auto" and convert - the program correctly detects and selects 1 audio channel. The resulting video loads and plays perfectly in MS2023.

Apologies if I've spoken (written) out of turn.

I agree. too much third-party paid-program discussion. If the programs are free and can be used to correct a file, fair enough, but Vegas isn't and Magix users are unlikely swap because of one rogue file.

I now gunna check out Pazera!

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@me_again I don't agree, comparison with other programs shows whether it's just magix or not, & I already wrote "no sound after render with Handbrake", Did you try Handbrake & if you got sound what were your settlings, also what version of Handbrake?

Finding out whether it is mono or stereo is part of the puzzle, @johnebaker's Handbrake shows mono but my latest version of Handbrake shows stereo..

& @AAProds

You totally missed the point of mentioning Vegas, as i mentioned it's just to show how it is in that program, never using it to recode or that users should swap over to Vegas was mentioned,

In future maybe we should just say to people "Recode your video" & have done with it, because after all we don't want to get bogged down in trying to work out why it doesn't play right..

AAProds wrote on 6/11/2023, 3:33 AM

I tried Pazera and it is great, works a treat for multiple files.

Righto, I'm now confused. About this Norm0004. Nothing I do, in Pazera, AVIDemux, Magix or indeed VLC Player will produce any sound at all. I see LR channels in Mediainfo but it's completely silent, even though the revs are going through the roof.

NORM0005 produced good audio after conversion with Pazera.

@Former user

I did try Handbrake - well VidCoder that uses the Handbrake Engine version 1.6.1:

NO audio when using AUTO for both audio sample rate and and bitrate but when I use 48Khz for sample rate and 128 kbps for bitrate the audio works.

@AAProds

Norm004 does appear to be silent but so is the first 10 seconds of Norm0005 until he starts the bike!!

I have downloade the full video pack https://www.pazera-software.com/products/free-audio-video-pack/ very useful at times.

@Former user, yes, the sound on this clip is not great. This is just a sample of the problem.

nope, no steel grate behind the bike 😉, just poor audio quality on the microphone. I'm working on getting that solved for videos that I'm actually posting. Work out the bugs first, posting later. Would love to use the Magix suite as the one-stop solution I paid for, and don't want to go back to the old(ancient) camera just for the audio.

I'll use a workaround for audio right now, but it's doubtful I'll continue to invest in a solution that doesn't deliver for my goals.

Working class here, don't have anyone bankrolling my equipment, so I don't have $$$ to throw at the hobby(yet).

... so I don't have $$$ to throw at the hobby

Quite agree. I'm in my 8th decade so I use free when I can or expect to get the quality I pay for when I do spend.

MS 2023 is, overall, a great program. If Magix tried it could be an excellent program.
