@Scenestealer
Yes that's exactly what I did.
Wiped it back to factory but Microsoft have covered their bases and it auto updates to 1803 without even knowing it when it re installs.
It was suggested to install over the top with wifi off to roll back. I just don't want to go through the process again and I need to know it won't affect the warranty so I'll contact HP first.

@1940
Yes I did read that but unfortunately there is a time limit on roll back and the window was closed for me when I tried to do it.

It just seems crazy that you have to go through this.

Maybe explain your predicament to that Windows community. They have helped me a few times.

I may still try the program on my windows 7 computer first.
If I get through an edit without issues then I may have the answer.

Thanks for the link.
I was told there was a download on the MS website but couldn't find it.
That will get me started.
Ultimately Microsoft need to fix the issue.

I have been excited too early with the last two patches and got burnt.
255 has definitely improved some things but not the freezing in my case at least.
I'm treading very carefully.

Just an update everyone.
I have just finished a full multi cam edit with no issues at all. I read there was a windows update on 26 June OS Build 17134.137 which claims to have fixed a number of bugs.
I didn't know the update had even happened apart from a startup change one morning.
I have had no freezes or crashes but some of the annoying things the program has been doing since 236 are still there but I can work with those issues.
I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself and it may be coincidental but at the moment I'm happy.
Doug..

Here are some comments:

- It was surprise for me that NVidia HW acceleration is not working for Mpeg4. However, this is not major issue since YouTube allows HEVC. Perhaps more careful work on product specification sheet?

- When clicking effects tab, some NewBlue effects titles are only partially visible. You cannot resize section with mouse.

As a improvement suggestion, it would neat if keyboard shortcuts are shown on icons if size allows.

It is clearly stated HEVC/h.265 on the VPX product page:

On specifications page:

I checked page https://www.magix.com/us/video/video-pro-x/specifications/#c829301 and it says NVidia GPU export. And if you scroll page down : "Graphics card: Onboard, min. resolution 1280 x 1024, 512 MB VRAM and DirectX 11 support (recommended: Nvidia GTX 1050 or better)". It gives impression that HW encoding is supported to all supported formats.

On what is new page when you scroll down the page, there is note about HEVC only. This caused confusion for me.

@MAGIX_Redaktion
Hi Mathias
I am pleased to report the last 2 major edits I have done have had no freezing or crashing issues.
A couple of days ago I posted a comment on a windows update that came through on 26/June.
It has been my suspicion for a while that a lot of the bugs have been windows related and since I have been having no issues and finally enjoying editing again, I think I may have been right.
I had been having trouble with MXV and WMV mixdowns just stopping and freezing the program but I have had no problem since the windows update.
I would like to bring some ongoing issues to your attention so you may be able to pass them on to the Support team.
1- Every time I re open VPX, it defaults back to the main videos folder in the media window instead of the last folder that had been used.
This has only started happening since the VPX 10 upgrade. 236,242 and current patches.
I do all my editing out of an external hard drive so having to go through the process of finding the folder I am working from is a time waster.

2- After applying an effect such as Neat video, Quick looks or any other plugin, the effects panel defaults back to the main video effects in blue so if I am applying the same effect to a number of objects, I keep having to scroll back down to the bottom to get back to the effect I am using.

3- I mentioned in an earlier post that it would be good to see a keyboard shortcut for removing audio object instead of having to go into audio functions every time and selecting the option.

4- I find the only way I can drag the end of an object smoothly is to have the project playing then I can drag no problem.

There are issues I have been having since way back to VPX 4 but because they are very random, they are hard to replicate.
I know there is a lot going on within the program but I think there needs to be a little more time spent on fixing the old issues rather than creating new functions. How many people use 6k for example.
I have toyed with alternative editing programs but I keep coming back to VPX because of the simplicity. They all seem to be too complex without achieving any better result.
Regards.
Doug.

. . . . Every time I re open VPX, it defaults back to the main videos folder in the media window instead of the last folder that had been used. . . . .

I get a similar issue - my VPX defaults to a location called 'Workspace' rather than the last used or the default folder location as shown below

Item 2 behaves similar however a different option in the effects list

Additionally:

NewBlue OFX plugins have started giving me a black Program screen again when applied to an object, other objects where an OFX effect is not applied display OK. - started with VPX 10.16.1.236. - turning on/off GPU acceleration or changing the display settings ie Direct3D to Compatibility mode etc made no difference

Hi John EB

I have stopped using newblue recently because certain effects were stopping me from opening the effects panel and crashing the program so when I wiped my computer and re installed the program, I never put newblue back on. I’m finding lately that less is more when it comes to effects.

@MAGIX_Redaktion

Here are a couple more to add to the list. See my thread on speed tests and my test project that has major problems exporting a short project (5s) with a NB effect on an image.

19. NewBlue OFX plugins have started giving a black Program screen again when applied to an object. Hit Film OFX may also be giving some users similar problems.

20. NewBlue OFX added to objects with other effects cause export to slow down enormously - 1h40 to export a 5 second clip.

I noticed that the updated Edit Trimmer did not make it into MEP. There was a problem of some objects on other tracks not moving when certain object lengths or end points were moved. Mostly sorted out in VPX but not MEP. I would not want this to be forgotten and the un-updated MEP trimmer put back into VPX. Please check that MEP is updated correctly.

@DugsBugs and @johnebaker

The startup Media Pool problem is on my list, as is the starting menu problem - 18 and 14, respectively.

Any more?

@browj2

Missed those three additions to the list.

Point 14
. . . . what happens when the bottom part fills up. Sometimes a new project, saved, then program exit, does not show up on the list when VPX is restarted . . . .

The filled list below the dropdown is populated in a random order (also MEP) - should be newest on top

Point18:
. . . . The Import screen upon startup always defaults to: C:\Users\Admin\Documents\MAGIX\Video Pro X\Projects . . . .

Mine is not even opening to that location - it is opening to Computer displaying just the drives as see in my image.

OT: anyone else having issues with the website today - any images I look at eg mine above are not expanding to full size!!!
