Hi

Looking through the log it looks like you have two seperate problems:

1. MARIA_FULL_VIDEO_COMBINED and
FUERTEVENTURA_2011_XMAS_FULL_VIDEO_AMENDED_AFTER_CRASH

may have some corruption in one or more of the files present or the project file itself.

2. The AVSDK Message - ERROR: :Cannot open drive -> Medium not present (SK/ASC/ASCQ 02/3A/01) would indicate that there is aproblem with the BD disc not being recognised.

Try the following:

1. Locate and delete the following files in the two projects above: .HDP, .H0 and mxfilerelatedcache.mxc2

Start a new project and save it, then open one of the above projects, you will be asked if you want to close the new project - do not do this, click Add project.

The timeline should display all the clips etc, select them all ( Ctrl + A) then Copy (Ctrl+ C).

Switch to the empty timeline you created earlier by clicking the film reel icon above the timeline and select the empty movie.

Paste (Ctrl + V) all the copied objects into the empty timeline.

Switch back to the old project timeline. From the menu select File, Manage Movies, Remove from project and confirm that you want to do this.

Save the new project again and try to burn this - see tip below.

2. Try a different brand of BD disc, you may have some faulty ones.

Tip:

For the initial burns of a project I use rewriteable Verbatim BD-RE discs - saves money as you can erase them for re-use - when I get the movie as I want it ( I often make changes after seeing it on TV,) then I copy the final burn on BD-RE to BD-R using some disc burning software eg Nero or Imgburn.

Also be careful of using BD LTH discs some players and writers can read/write these properly

HTH

John

How much Storage space is left on your Hard Disk? Recently I had a problem with project not being able to burn also. A contributing factor was that I had less than 10% of the harddisk left. I think John answer is the most correct but there may be contributing factors to this also.

MANY THANKS GUYS....really appreciated.

You will never beleive this BUT.....it is resolved.

I rebooted the PC and did a burn again and it has worked without problem......I wonder if there was some loss between the program and burner?

However, I guess it is a tip to remeber....reboot to check everything first.

However, very grateful for your time and kind assistance....very much appreciated.

I am more a phot guy thatn video and never have real issues with Video, however, it is nice to know help is available if needed and I thank you again for your kind help.

Best wishes

Ray

Many thanks again BUT,,,,guess what....

The disk will not read in the Blu Ray player on PC or DVD player.

Has definitely burnt as you can see a significant written area.....

Went to burn again and ....same problem.....I think I need to try to burn with another programme and see if that will do it...if John's suggestion does not work...also may try another brand. These are Phillips (I think)

Many thanks again

Hi,

First, establish whether the issue is definitely in the burning or the encoding. To do this, see if it plays from the DVD folder created by MEP directly after the encoding. This is located wherever you've specified in Program Setings > Folder.

Use a player of choice, such as VLC, WMP, PowerDVD, etc. I use VLC which lets me play the folder itself, but a more universal method is to open the file VIDEO_TS.IFO with the chosen player. That displays the menu, and you proceed from there. Or go directly to the content by playing VTS_01_1.VOB.

If the problem doesn't occur doing this, then it's definitely the burning. If so my money would be on either disc media types or no MEP support for your drive.

FWIW, I always burn the DVD folder described above with ImgBurn, http://www.imgburn.com

but there are many alternatives like Nero, etc.

Hi

@ Terry - Sorry these are Blu-ray projects not DVD.

I'm betting on the discs being the problem.

You can try Terry's suggestion about checking the video files with a player - the difference is they are located in the BDMV, Stream folder and have 5 digit numbers starting at  00000.m2ts - the highest numbered file(s) will be the menu and any chapter menu videos.

OK...this is where I am at...

Initial request for help because disk failed to burn with that error message.

Tried again and got a disk which had burned to BLU Ray...(clearly visible) but would not read on PC or Blu Ray burner.

This time I rebooted PC and thought it had done it....it did not burn.

Bought some TDK disks....put one in and burned to disk but still would not read on PC or BLU Ray Player.

Fried who lives Magix said he had same problem and had to uninstall and reinstall.....so did that.

Tried to burn....failed again...this time, as before it took a few hours to render but did not attempt to burn to disk.

SO....by now utterly frustrated and bought a Panasonic external BLU Ray burner from E Bay £42...(thought it seemed a good buy at that price and can use on my laptop etc)

Now, plugged new burner into PC and trying again...waiting for it to render again (another 6 hours!!!)

If it does not burn this time I may try using another program to burn with BUT....would not know how to do that?

How do I save a video with chapters in etc so that it burns with them in a new program etc???

Really wish life was easier.

Best wishes
Ray

ps...have a wonderful collection of coasters all the same size and matching if anyone wants them...LOL

pps MOST IMPORTANTLY...THANKS FOR YOUR KIND HELP- really appreciated.

Hi

. . . . How do I save a video with chapters in etc so that it burns with them in a new program etc??? . . .

You can start the Burn process without a disc in the drive and then when asked for a disc - just cancel the dialog - the BD files and structure has been created at this point.

The files are normally located in a folder that is named BD H264 project name in the Disc Images folder location specified in the Programs settings for the Filepaths.

. . . . ps...have a wonderful collection of coasters all the same size and matching if anyone wants them...LOL . . . .

Don't think you will get many offers   we have all done this at some time or other - you could start a little business adding clock mechanisms to them and selling them

You must have missed this part of my first post ie :-

. . . . For the initial burns of a project I use rewriteable Verbatim BD-RE discs - saves money ;-) as you can erase them for re-use - when I get the movie as I want it ( I often make changes after seeing it on TV,) then I copy the final burn on BD-RE to BD-R using some disc burning software eg Nero or Imgburn . . . .

Hi

You must have missed this part of my first post ie :-

. . . . For the initial burns of a project I use rewriteable Verbatim BD-RE discs - saves money ;-) as you can erase them for re-use - when I get the movie as I want it ( I often make changes after seeing it on TV,) then I copy the final burn on BD-RE to BD-R using some disc burning software eg Nero or Imgburn . . . .

HTH

John

Hi John

Really wish I understood as much as you guys here....like yourself, Terry has also been very kind in the past and helped. However, it is a case of learning I think!

I did miss that part of your post; guess it was so frustrating what was happening I overlooked it...

Hope I understand you right John....I can look for the file BD H264 project name and burn that using Ashapoo for example?

Once again...many thanks for the help...it is much appreciated....
By the way, nice to know I am not the only one with the coasters.....but will get a re-writable one for future reference.
Best wishes and thank you again
Ray

Ray,

Are you saying you hadn't yet found and played the rendered file before sending this?

I know nothing about Ashapoo but I repeat my recommendation to use ImgBurn. That was one that John also suggested. At least we'll then be singing the same tune if you need detailed help.

Assuming you do install that, these instructions show you how to burn the disc:

Hi Terry...

Thanks for your reply....I will use IMGBURN as receommended in future.....so that will be a help I hope.

I did not play the rendered file before burning. I went stright to the burn menu and pressed burn etc.

However, would you beleive this...

Used the new external Blu Ray burner and it took some tiome to render and burn....stated it was completed.

Just tried this minute to playback...same message...wil not read!!!!

This is SO annoying, especially with my lack of knowledge re Magix. Vlealry it is not a fault of disk or burner as it has done it with the new external drive.

I seem to recall that it asked nme if I was to include or encode a file number before I burnt to disk and I replied encode all.....

However, I wonder if I should try adjusting the actual video and checking to see if there is something on the timeline which is causing the problem.

Perhaps I should find and play the rendered file first?

By the way...apologies for my lack of knowledge, I love photoshop and do a lot in that....but never had this issue with any video program before?

Thanks again for your continued help...it is much appreciated.

Best wishes

Hi Terry.....

Tried to play the BD H264 project with windows media player and it is just black. When played with VLC it is clearly wrong...it is jittering and flashing all over the place..

However...there is also a DVD Image of the video with 4 VOB files...all of which play perfect, including the fades, transitions and effects etc etc...

Can you make any suggestions please? Can I for example drag the vob files into a new timeline and redo the video using them?

Thanks

ps....will be away until about 17:50 today so apologies if you reply and I do not respond quickly

Hi Ray

Think my brain must have been vertical thinking on this one -

1. Do you by chance happen to have a NVidia graphics card/chipset?

2. If so do you have hardware acceleration for mp4/AVCHD turned on in the Program settings, Video/Audio tab ?

3. Did you also turn on the Calculate video efects on GPU option in the Encoder settings of the Burn Dialog?

If the answer is all three then do not use no. 3 - it causes problems with 2.

If the answer is 1 and 2 the try turning off 2 - and try a burn again with no disc inserted.

If the answer is not any of the above - then I am puzzled as to what is going -  - the only other possibility is the codecs being used are the wrong ones - have you installed any of the all-in-one codec packs eg KLite or Codecs for All?

John

Ray,

As you gathered, I don't work with Blu-ray so you'll need John's advice there.

But I still think it looks as if MEP doesn't support your drive!

If you can play the main content that has already been rendered, namely the large VOB files, then I reckon there's a good chance you'll be able to burn that folder with ImgBurn. I hope I'm wrong, of course, because it's obviously less convenient than doing the whole job within MEP.

BTW, what video players do you have? Only WMP? If so I'd recommend as a minimum you also get VLC. For DVDs at least, that can play the DVD from its folder, as I think I mentioned before, and I assume it supports Blu-ray too.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

But even WMP should be able to do it. Try using it to open the Blu-ray equivalent of VIDEO_TS.IFO (John?) and that should open the menu, ready for clicking chapters etc.

Come back and tell us what happens. There's a lot to learn, so tackle it in small chunks!

Dear John and Terry,

First of all a BIG thanks to you both for your interest and help....

The first thing I should say is that I am looking at 20+ BLU Ray videos as well as countless DVD's all created using MEP, including the current one I use (17).

The problem therefore seems to be recent.

I use VLC which is great as well as some others.

I do use a NVidia graphics card, however, at the moment I cannot check the settings.

As I did not have your replies before going out today I thought of one last thing, probably wrong but thought I would give it a go.

Each time I have tried to burn a disk I was asked if I wanted to encode another file and said yes to all etc....

I wondered if the actual video I had created was corrupt.

I therefore opened it up and moved, very slightly, the timeline and then saved under a different name.....set it to burn for one last rime..

It is still rendering etc and did not ask for the other file name....I wonder if the original file could be corrupt.

I cannot open MEP up again to look at the settings as suggested by John until this last ditch attempt has finished...once that is done I may at least be able to let you know that even with a new/amended file the problem is there or has gone....I can then look at the options you have kindly suggested.

It really seems there is so much to learn about this program. I am an avid user of photoshop and get round that without problem; even done some tutorials etc but video editing appears so complex and prone to issues etc.....
I remember problems with early versions of Pinnacle Studio due to instability whereas, until this issue, MEP has performed really very well. Been looking at Power Director 11 which looks an awesome program but never used it...it does however seem to be pretty reliable and with a lot more options than MEP...or it may just be me looking for an alternative...LOL

Anyway, most importantly, my sincere thanks to you guys....just a shame we live so far apart as I am sure there is so much I could learn if we met.......it is so much easier talking face to face etc.

I will come back once the latest attempt to burn finishes....hopefully I can say it is OK but if not...back to your advice.

Kind regards as always

Ray

Dear John and Terry,

Once again burn failed but without anything to disk which appears unused....no burn in marks etc.

Looking at the comments from John...

Yes, graphics card is NVidia.

I do not have the option referred to re hardware acceleration turned on for mp4/AVCHD. It only shows one for 3d which requires a reboot etc.

Hopefully the image will display below of the settings.

It looks as if I may have to fall back to Terry's suggestion of burning the VOB files in ImgBurn.....

Any guidance on that process please?

Many many thanks for your help and patience...

Best wishes

Hi Ray

Apologies the GPU option in the burn dialog is from MEP 2013 - I was switching between that and MEP 17 when answering your post

Which software are you going to try burning the VOB's with?

Hi John

No problem....

I have downloaded ImgBurn and have never used it before so a bit of a learning curve. I have actually started to re-do the whole video in Power Director 11 (I know that is sacriledge LOL) but would really like the original which I have in Magix. By the way...it did burn OK to a standard DVD in MEP...so it seems to be a blu ray issue. I thought by burning another video from another program etc it might test and see if it is just MEP?

However, any help re the VOB files and ImgBurn would be really appreciated.

Thank you very much

Ray

The plot thickens....

Still awaiting the Cyberlink video to encode and burn but in the meantime I burnt the 4 VOB files with ImgBurn to blu ray....it said they could fit on an ordinary DVD but I wanted to test fro Blu Ray burn etc..

It burnt no problem to Blu ray as 4 seperate VOB files without chapters....however, I have a copy on disk now.

BUT....will not play in the Panasonic Blu Ray player coupled to TV...???

Going to check that now with one I know does play...
