BeatBox Pro - Unable to listen to samples separately

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/6/2022, 2:58 PM

When I click on the arrows next to any of the percussion instruments (kick, snare, clap, etc.) no sound is played.

According to the BeatBox Pro tutorial, you should be able to do this.

Also, when I click on playback after selecting a kit and pattern, the syncronization is way off between the pattern and the vertical row of boxes moving across the screen as the pattern plays.

Anyone else have these issues and is there a fix for them?

Ok. I researched these issues some more and it turns out what I'm dealing with is a huge amount of latency in the playback in Beatbox Pro.

Huge.

The samples do play back separately after clicking on the arrows next to them, but the time delay between clicking and hear them play is quite noticeable. I would say almost 1/2 sec.

Same with the scrolling across the screen as a pattern is playing.

I'm hoping it's just a matter of adjusting a setting.

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/6/2022, 3:30 PM

In 4/4 time at 120 bpm, the lag or delay is about 2 full beats.

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/6/2022, 3:34 PM

Make that 3 beats

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/6/2022, 3:45 PM

Ok. I noticed something else. Samples in BeatBox Pro will only play if playback in Arranger is ON. If playback in Arranger is off, then samples will not play when you click on the arrows.

@dmstar1956 Waht are your driver settings in the Music Maker program settings?

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/6/2022, 4:52 PM

Ok.

I think I may have figured out what's causing the latency issue.

Here is the path shown in Music Maker File Manager for my Beatbox Loop files:

C:/Users/dmsta/OneDrive/Documents/MAGIX/Music Maker/Beatbox Loops

I'm running Windows 11 and have Microsoft OneDrive backup of my files in the cloud. The other day Microsoft notified me that I was running out of OneDrive storage and asked would I like to buy more storage. I never really wanted to use OneDrive in the first place, so I decided that rather than buy more storage I would just delete my files on OneDrive, forgetting that Microsoft has it set up so that if you remove files on OneDrive or any device you have linked to One Drive it removes those same files across all devices and I have two laptops linked up to OneDrive including the one with Music Maker on it.

I forgot that by removing files on OneDrive I was also removing them from my two laptops. And the folder I removed was my Documents folder where my Magic Music Maker files were store on my primary laptop.

When I realized what I had done, I bought more storage so that I could restore all of the deleted files including the Magic Music Maker files.

What I don't understand is why Microsoft didn't restore all of the original paths and links for Magic Music Maker that were stored on my primary laptop.

I think this explains the latency issue,

What do you think and what do you recommend I do to fix the problem?

SP. wrote on 6/6/2022, 5:16 PM

@dmstar1956 I also think there is a synchronisation between your computer and the One Drive servers everytime you want to access the files. This would explain the long loading times.

I don't use Windows 11 or any Cloud Backups, so I don't have any experience here. I would suggest you uninstall everything and reinstall it into a different folder. Revo Uninstaller Free should be able to remove Music Maker and all associated Windows registry entries from your system. You should then be able to do a fresh reinstallation. https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo-uninstaller-free-download/

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/6/2022, 8:06 PM

Ok. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks.

Microsoft insistence on using One Drive is a perennial pain for many users as you have unfortunately found - for future reference see this article on how to stop OneDrive syncing before deleting files on OneDrive which done through a web browser one it has been unlinked.

The links were not restored because they are stored locally on the laptop.

John, thank you for providing this information on how to stop OneDrive syncing files.

Now I've got a bigger problem. I uninstalled Music Maker per SP's suggestion above. Unfortunately, I uninstalled EVERYTHING--Music Maker, the Soundpools, Collections, BeatBox Loops--thinking that was what I was supposed to do. I thought that was what he meant when he said "I would suggest you uninstall everything and reinstall it into a different folder."

Then after reinstalling Music Maker and the update patches, I went back to my email with the serial numbers for the coupons to add back the Soundpools/Collections I had previously selected and read that they can only be redeemed ONCE.

Now what do I do? I just want to restore the Music Maker set-up I had before this problem with OneDrive arose.

SP. wrote on 6/7/2022, 9:28 AM

@dmstar1956 You just login with your e-mail and password in the welcome screen of Music Maker. Then wait a minute for the program to sync your installation with your user account. You should then be able to download everything again from the Download tab inside Music Maker.

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/7/2022, 10:00 AM

Ok. I logged out and then back in again per your instructions but I still don't see any of the soundpools/collections I activated via coupons. I see the VST instruments, I see the downloadable instruments, but no soundpools/collections or BeatBox Loops.

Also, File Manager is still showing the path to BeatBox Loops as being my OneDrive, which I don't want. It seems to be the default path. How do I change that once I know where my BeatBox Loops actually are.

I'm totally confused at this point.

@dmstar1956

Hi,

When you installed the program, there was a place to indicate where your Soundpools should go. You should have changed this to somewhere that is not on OneDrive if that was the case, the same with the Projects.

You can see this in the program under Program Settings, Folders.

What do you see in Program Settings for Soundpools location?

The normal location for Soundpools is here:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools

Do you see anything under this?

Soundpools purchased from the Store will be under:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools\Shop

Do you see any?

If so, then in Music Maker, under Loops, the parameters gear, Add new Soundpools. Navigate to the root folder of wherever you have the Soundpools as per the Folders in the Program Settings.

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools

Do you see anything under this? YES

Soundpools purchased from the Store will be under:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools\Shop

Do you see any? YES...ALL OF THEM

I was able to locate the soundpools and can access them now in Music Maker. Thank you.

About Beatbox Loops - In File Manager, it still shows OneDrive as the location for finding them and I'm still dealing with the syncronization/latency issue when playing back Beatbox loops. The path shown is C:/Users/dmsta/OneDrive/Documents/MAGIX/Music Maker/Beatbox Loops

Also, I've since relocated my Music Maker folder from my Documents folder to my Desktop.

In Program Settings, should I change all of my folder locations (except Soundpools) to the Desktop folder? Presently all locations still show as being on OneDrive.

Ok. Just now I tried to change my Projects folder location to the Desktop and after clicking OK it still gives the path as C:\Users\dmsta\OneDrive\Documents\MAGIX\Music Maker ???

I sure appreciate your patience in helping me resolve these issues. If not for this damn OneDrive thing, I wouldn't have had any of these any problems.

johnebaker wrote on 6/7/2022, 12:32 PM

@dmstar1956

Hi

Did you disable syncing of the Documents folder to OneDrive?

When you used Revo to uninstall the program did you delete the items the 2 scans after uninstall located?

Once this is done new files etc, should be saved to the Documents folder located under C:Users\dmsta\Documents.

Right click the Documents folder in File Explorer or on your Desktop (if visible) and select Properties - the Location should show C:\C:Users\dmsta\Documents

Documents, files, etc that were backed up to OneDrive will continue to be in the folder in C:/Users/dmsta/OneDrive/Documents. Mine is now empty as I moved the files to the above folder - If you move your files ensure you have a good backup stored elsewhere before moving them.

I disabled syncing of the Magic Projects folder to OneDrive and now there is a green circle with a white checkmark next to the folder name on my local drive

According to Microsoft, "Only files that you mark as Always keep on this device have the green circle with the white check mark. These always available files have been downloaded to your device and take up space, but they’re always there for you even when you’re offline.

I apologize, but I did not use Revo to uninstall the program, I just used the Windows apps uninstaller in Settings.

Funny thing is, when I try to change the folder location for, let's say, Recordings, from the OneDrive location to my local hard drive (C:\Users\dmsta\Documents\Magik Projects\Music Maker\My Record), Music Maker says the folder doesn't exist.

I'm going to reboot my computer and then try it again. I'll let you know if that solved the problem.

Any solution to the Beatbox Loops sync/delay issue? I'm assuming if I mark the Beatbox Loops folder to Always keep on this device, that would eliminate it, right?

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/7/2022, 1:44 PM

No luck. Music Maker still says the folder location for My Record doesn't exist.

Should I just try starting all over again and uninstall the program and all related files/folders using Revo?

browj2 wrote on 6/7/2022, 1:48 PM

@dmstar1956

Hi,

No, don't reinstall the program.

Could this be the problem?

C:\Users\dmsta\Documents\Magik Projects\Music Maker\My Record

Magik with a k instead of an x?

Also, under Program Settings, Folders, you can always create a folder.

No, that was a typo on my part. All of the folders on my local drive and on OneDrive say MAGIX.

When I try to go into Program Settings and change the folder locations to the ones on my local hard drive, Music Maker says none of the folders for Projects, Imports, Exports, and Recordings exist, but they are there.

Right now I'd throw a pie in Bill Gates face if I had the chance.

SP. wrote on 6/7/2022, 3:48 PM

@dmstar1956 I think it's a good idea to uninstall everything again. And then reinstall Music Maker but configure the installation folders in the installer settings instead of just clicking on 'Next'.

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/7/2022, 6:13 PM

Ok.

So, if I do the re-install correctly and configure the Music Maker files to be installed to folders on my local drive, that should eliminate the sync/latency issues I was experiencing with Beatbox Loops?

I've since re-configured OneDrive to keep all of my Documents folder files on my local drive, permanently.

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/7/2022, 7:33 PM

So, I finished re-installing Music Maker and everything seems to be working properly except the step sequencer in Beatbox.

Although the Beatbox rhythm sounds are playing in sync with the instrument sounds playing in Arranger, the beats as displayed in Step Sequencer are still running ahead of the song by about 3 beats, same as before.

Why would this be happening?

Hi

Is the project BPM the same as the Beatbox BPM ?

Yes. See attached screen recording (mp4 file).

But I also noticed the same delay occurs whenever I click the arrow button next to a drum instrument in the step sequencer. The same delay.
