Hi

. . . . It's actually a problem for Magix I believe and (strangely enough) NOT a Windows mistake . . . .

Here I would disagree with you.

If you scan the Internet for issues after different Windows 10 update, you will find that it is not just Magix programs which have been affected. The biggest issues for me was the initial upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1 and the Windows 10 Anniversary update.

Both screwed up a lot of registry and folder permissions, turned off necessary communication protocols and affected several programs I had installed, in the end I had to re-install all affected programs.

The current 1803 update is possibly the worst so far, it either works flawlessly, exhibits odd behaviours and worst case is bricking some computers to the point where you can go neither forward nor backwards and the only option is a total wipe and fresh install.

This one I have experience of with my laptop, which has identical components to my PC, ie processor, chipsets, audio and graphics, yet it is bricked every time Windows 10 1803 update installs, the PC updated fine.

The big problem for Microsoft, and software manufacturers, is trying to find out how and why the update has affected the software.

I found the solution myself. For those interested in film how to do it. It is a waste of time to answer from Magix.

This worked for me!

Yup, Seen some mention of AC3 playback being silent. So this is something MS have to fix.

I set my Windows patch to not do any updates for next 45 days, that would be 2 months after they broke the sound playback hopefully it be fixed.

@wongck

I was under the impression this had also to do with versions of MEP as well as VideoDeluxe (depending if you have th eGerman or the English version)

But that is now IRRELEVANT! I rejoice to say, I went to try once more the downloading of the extension package by making a project with an m2ts file. But this time, instead of having to try to export as an mpeg to force the offer to download (which never worked anyway), as soon as I put the m2ts in the editing window I got the notification and THEN IT REALLY DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED. The m2ts had sound again immediately! HOORAH!!!!!!!

I thank whoever is responsible for this. I am so relieved. Thank you, thank you!

Just updated to the new VPX and when I loaded a MTS file,it required the extension download.
I downloaded and all audio worked fine.
Try it. May solve all the problems.

Hi all,

Just a little update on this issue: The workaround solution to force the Dolby Digital codec activation by doing an MPEG file export with e.g. the "Standard DVD PAL AC3" preset, which has been referenced in this thread, will work. However, it is restricted to the Plus and Premium version of Movie Edit Pro (Video Deluxe), as well as Video Pro X (which has now already seen an official patch addressing this issue). It won't work in the classic version of Movie Edit Pro or in Photostory Deluxe, since these don't support Dolby Digital 5.1 export. I assume this is where some of you have been seeing problems, even after reading this thread. So, if you're using one of the latter programs, please try this instead:

Download and run the fix from the following URL:

https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/download_do/330921

Then start up Movie Edit Pro (or Photostory) and import your AVCHD/MPEG material again. This should now reliably trigger the Dolby Digital online activation/download, enabling you to get your sound back.

(This fix will work for the Plus/Premium version as well. Also, you may need to fiddle with your Windows SmartScreen settings to allow it to run.)

I hope this helps. Official program patches to deal with the new situation regarding Dolby Digital under this recent Windows 10 update should be forthcoming as well.

Hello

So it's weekend again, and I have some time to re-update my Windows 10 to 1803, and installed the patch for my MEP standard. I is now triggering the download..... Hurrah !!!! Previously it did not because mine was the standard MEP.

So now, when ever I playback my mpeg ( even on the folder view where I click on the small arrow head to preview an mpeg) it will pop-up "An expansion pack is needed.... " which I always click download, and I can see on the status bar at the bottom, downloads something. But playback is still silent. If I click again to playback, it repeats the process again... seems to loop.

So still does not work for me..... 😢 .... but it's a step better... as it is downloading something... just too many Fing times now. Previously it did not download anything.

So GUYS any ideas ??

I looked in my documents and found the MagiX_download folder but there was no new files inside. Any ideas where it downloaded to, so I can manually install whatever it downloaded?

Thanks.

So sleeping on it works 😁

I just ran MEP in admin mode, it downloads it and installs the stuff and now I have audio on my mpegs.

Running MEP on normal user mode, the audio is heard on my mpeg playback. 😂😂👍

So anyone with issue like me, try running MEP in admin mode.

But I don't backtrack and re-read every time a new post comes. Just followed the instructions from an email from MagiX support which is the same information from Ralftaro. It's good to make another note here near the solution as well, just in case someone have a similar going on.

I wonder if this would work on an earlier version, like MEP 2014. I'm using Version 13.0.5.5 (UTDP) I tried using the method provided and tried running the fix, but I couldn't get it to run. I'm having the issue right now with one of my videos.

emmrecs wrote on 6/6/2018, 2:44 AM

@matthew-martinez

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

The issue to which this thread refers is specific to .mts files. Is that the type of file you have which is not playing the audio?

When you say you couldn't get the fix to run, what exactly happens if you try, remembering again that this is an issue occurring after the 1803 update to Win 10?

As you imply, MEP 2014 is now quite an "old" version and Magix Technical Support is likely to be available only if you pay for it. However, please read this post and give us ALL the information requested, especially about your computer, the precise version and variant number of MEP you have (check under Help>About) and what exactly you have tried in order to help resolve the problem.

Did anyone try this? Both Malware Bytes and Nortons' tried to block it, I ran it anyway, and it couldn't find a device to patch. I really hope I didn't just run some malware even if my virus software said not to run it :( This is really frustrating, I'm running Movie Edit Pro 2014 thanks.

Don't worry. Definitely just a false positive alarm.

This fix does indeed not apply to version 2014. You shouldn't actually technically be able to experience the specific problem that is being discussed in this thread in Movie Edit Pro 2014. So, whatever problem with missing audio you're experiencing, would be based on completely different grounds. You might want to raise a new thread about it and include all relevant details there.

BTW, MAGIX is currently talking to Microsoft to see whether this issue could also be addressed on their end again, through a future Windows 10 update.

The fix that includes "Standard DVD PAL AC3" corrected the no sound while previewing "mts" format files, but it failed to correct the lack of sound visualization (waveform graph). Here's a screen capture of what I mean. The "mp4" format file (top)displays the waveform and the "mts" one (bottom) is blank. I looked for the "Create wave form" option from "Audio function" menu and this option was not listed, nor did the "Shift + E" create a wave form for the "mts" file.

Anybody know if this has been reported and/or is a fix coming?

I used this method but I do not use these 2 anti-malware software. I just use Defender. No issues of any sort with it.

Was MEP running when you tried to apply the patch?

If not, try right clicking the patch exe file and select Run as administrator to see if this then updates MEP 2018.
