Acid Pro 9.0.1 (24) crashing after installing new build version

Dr_Zen wrote on 6/8/2019, 10:07 PM

Hello forum members
I don't have a problem, but thought I would share my experience in case anyone else encounters the same thing.

After I installed the new build version for Acid Pro 9 (9.0.1 #24), the program kept crashing at the boot up stage.

I did 2 things to fix this problem:
1. Deleted temporary files cache
2. Uninstalled Acid Pro 9 completely, re-booted computer and then re-installed the new build version.

After completing a new install, the program now opens without crashing.

Regards
Derek

Acid pro 9 keeps crashing at boot for me as well, I have uninstalled it a few times already and it seems to work fine until the acid update is installed then it starts to crash at boot again.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Have you tried deleting the temporary files cache ?
Hold down Shift + CTRL keys, then double-click Acid Pro icon on your Windows desktop.
Delete cache.

Is there an error message if this does not work again ?
Post error message into forum.

Tried the above but it only launches AP9 and then it goes down again.

Reinstalling will only work temporary since patch gets downloaded again. No error messages, it just stops.

Having the same problem.

Bought Acid Pro 365 a few days ago, installed both the 32 & 64bit versions.

Have been using the 64 bit version fine for few days.

Plugged in my Korg Micro x to use as midi controller and the program wouldn't load, gets stuck on splash screen and goes off.

I uninstalled everything and did a fresh install of only the 64 bit version, it worked first time. Played around with the midi controller fine.

Went back a few minutes later to open the software and again it hangs on splash screen, won't load.

Had some old Acid 7 project files, unable to load them same problem.

Gonna try the suggestions above but not looking good.

Running Windows 10

8 GB ram & intel i5 2400 CPU 3.30ghz

I would strongly recommend you contact Magix Support and ask for their help.
https://www.magix.com/us/support/technical-support/
There seems to be many people experiencing problems with this new version of Acid Pro - more than what I would normally expect for a new program.

Mark-Whiteside wrote on 7/9/2019, 6:05 AM

Hi Dr Zen,

I've found an email address and sent them a message. The online tech support is useless and just leads you back to old Sony pages which are of no help at all.

I'd only just installed Windows 10 on an older HDD so I'm gonna try a completely new SSD with a fresh install tonight.

I was also experiencing duplication when I saved acd project files. I want to rule out any issues with my set up before I chase them up about it.

Cheers

Mark

UPDATE

I've put a brand new SSD into my PC.

Reinstalled Acid Pro 9.

Successfully opened a new project.

Then I tried to open an Acid 7 project (without any VSTs). This worked fine.

Then I tried to open an Acid 7 project file which used VSTs that i no longer have.  This failed and closed on splash screen.

Now, when i go to open the program it doesn't get past the splash screen again.  It gets all the way to 'initializing UI' then just goes off, nothing loads.

I'm really disappointed.  I used to use Acid Pro many years ago and was hoping this new version would be welcome but it feels so unstable.

So to recap, in the first few days of owning Acid Pro 9 i've had crashes on splash screen from loading old project files and adding a midi controller. In both instances i've been unable to load anything afterwards and had to perform a fresh install.

I've contacted support and waiting for reply. Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

ANOTHER UPDATE
I am also experiencing MAJOR problems with Acid Pro 9 now.
I just cannot get the program to open at all - very frustrating and disappointing.
Program appears to be crashing when loading the VST3 folder.
I am sending my own support request to see what Magix has to say about this.
The weird thing is that Acid Pro 7 and Acid Pro 8 are working perfectly OK - it's just version 9 that is not working.

Hi Dr Zen,

Having the same problem.

I am using acid pro next. 32bit and 64bit version crash.

I deleted the temporary files cache as you provided. Then I opened 64bit ver. acid pro next. When it asked me if I wanted to install update service software, I pressed "no". I am not sure it's fully functioning or not, but it seems like working.

I'm no expert, but I think you really should install the update service module.
I still can't get the program to open and am waiting on a reply back from MAGIX support.
At present I have given up on this program, because I have wasted too much time on trying to get it to work.

I'm having this same problem... Did a clean install from scratch, Deleted everything in the /user directories. I could get it to run a couple of times after reinstalling it, then I'll fire it up only to have it stop loading and blank out after going about 50% through loading VST 's. I tried to delete everything in the user directories but still it won't start up.

This is the exact same problem I am experiencing !!!
I am going to send a deep analysis of this problem to Magix Support on Monday and see if they can work out what the problem is. I will report back here as soon as I make some progress.

I also have Acid Music Studio 11 installed (the consumer cut down version) and it works perfectly, so there seems to be something specific about Acid Pro 9 and VSTs not being recognized correctly, which causes the crash.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the problem may be, because unlike many others I have not experienced these issues. Never had a problem installing any of the AP8 builds, and the same goes for AP9. I have not had any problems with crashes either, and really the only issue I've had is with inconsistent loading of VSTs.

I'm very curious, because I'm on an 8 year old HP laptop running the latest version of Windows 10.

I am also having the same problem with Ap9

I am also having same problems with Ap9 after the the latest update.I have found a work around .It appears that after installing and running 1st time Ap9 installs AcidPro update program.Check control panel program and features to uninstall the app update program.Acid pro will now run effortless although ever successful load the update program will install. and need uninstalling . Disconnect the pc from internet as this will stop the update program installing......I hope it makes sense an I hope it will hope

Build 17 runs fine for me build 24 crashes on splash screen. For me its somewhere around loading vst.

Christopher-Frank wrote on 8/28/2019, 2:55 PM

yes, Magix has proven they have no regard for their customers. If this were an open source freeware program I'd kinda (well, not really) understand but I paid $400 for a program that crashes constantly. Magix seems more interested in pumping out new $$$$ upgrades and addons rather than fix a product they clearly know is broken.

Anyway, the best workaround is to disallow the update program from running. This can be done via group policy editor - Press windows key = "R" type in gpedit.msc

Expand “User Configuration” > “Administrative Templates“, then select “System“. Open the policy “Don’t run specified Windows applications“. Enable it. Add this program

UpS_updater_ACID_Pro_Next_x64.exe (at least that's for pro next...)

every time you open the program a pop-up will say "important updates are being downloaded" Hit OK, another popup with the big red circle X will say your system admin is preventing the update program from running... you say "good! it's the latest build, what's there to update? A patch to fix this?? Stupid stupid idiotic program" and go about working with program... It STILL doesn't fix the issue of ACID not loading all of your VST's and VSTi's but obviously Magix doesn't care about offering a quality build. You can also add a "DisallowRun" key under currrent user explorer in the registry too.

BTW @Cyber-Punk or anyone else... willing to send Build 17 install file? It gets saved in Documents folder ... I NEVER had an issue with the prior build. Now I rarely have an issue, I'm just angry at the blatant disrespect Magix has for its paying customers. I've worked with the SF trilogy (Sound Forge, Acid, and Vegas) for years... prior to even Sony acquiring from the company Sound Forge. And I spent a lot of money buying updates once they were released with 64bit architecture... I still love Vegas (use it for my audio mixdowns) but Sound Forge is virtually obsolete these days and Cakewalk has proven a reliable, solid, FREE DAW ... especially for someone like myself who works almost exclusively with MIDI, Kontakt, and Composer Cloud Play. Have a soft spot for ACID but almost time for it to go bye bye... (Thanks for allowing me to rant a bit :0)

Hi Christopher-Frank

Thank you so much for your detailed reply 🙂
You definitely have hit the nail on the head !

Due to more important issues with my business, I never sent a new message to Magix support. I didn't want to waste anymore time on a problem I shouldn't have to be dealing with.

Now that you have posted your excellent analysis which confirms my test results, I'm going to send a message directly to Management at Magix and link to your reply. I come from the VEGAS end and have contacts within Magix that I can send messages to. I'll send a message in the next 24 hours and see if we can get this taken seriously, before I post my first negative review of a Magix product.

I'm a glass half full guy, so prefer to concentrate on the positives, but this time around the glass is dam well empty!

Cheers :)
Derek

Hi Guys. I signed up with 365 to learn music but this is nuts. Acid Pro Next worked a couple of times on my Windows 10 Pro 32Gb box that runs anything else i throw at it. It just crashes at start up even though I've reinstalled, restarted, asked the cat for advice, but nope. Anyway I grabbed an event from the Windows application event log which is below for any technical people.

@Jon-Kelly
Since posting my last message, Magix support has made contact with some us. If you read @Christopher-Frank message above, it explains what is causing this significant problem. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it right now. Magix is definitely aware of this wide spread problem with all versions of Acid Pro 9 (including 365) and I can only imagine they are working as quickly as possible to release a fix.

I do not work for Magix, but I what I recommend you do is send a message to Magix Support and make sure to send a link to this forum post in your message as well.

Anyone know how to actually get support?

I have spent most of today trying to get somebody to acknowledge my missing confirmation emails on my orders for a Support Voucher and Acid Pro 9 from yesterday.

Without that voucher - I cannot even start an email support ticket? Have had zero luck reaching any of the publicly available Magix support numbers.

Would appreciate any tips on how to get a support ticket started (See my other post for Acid Pro v9 Visual C++ error)
