Hi John.

The last time I looked at NB TP7 was just before Christmas and NB TP6 launched in both but I had NB TP7 on the desktop as a standalone showing.

I checked today and now NB TP7 is loaded into all my programs. The only updates I have had is to Windows. Nothing from NB to my knowledge.Even better it is working correctly as before I could not see the file it was being applied to in the background.

But again who knows what is going on in the background of Windows any more? I found this video particularly shocking.

So I no longer feel I know what is responsible for changes that happen on my system and feel I can't always look at Magix or a third party vendor to blame for something not working as expected.

Speaking of which. Reyfox's comment reminded me that I forgot my own basic rule for video editing.

If I want or expect the programs to run smoothly, don't mix and match file types, frame speeds, and resolutions. It is bound to cause problems as the end export has to make a consistent performing video. There is nothing worse to look at from a modern video that one that changes accuracy in colour, differences in sharpness, noise, audio quality etc. Plus the project then has to bounce back and forth between wrappers, frame rates, and possible colour spaces as well as resolution.

@Reyfox

Hi.

We had a computer before the Mesh one from Tandy running Windows 3.2.

I think the first thing my son did was play Prince of Persia on it. Most games though were still heavily text based. There is only so much you can do with a 40MB hard drive 😂

Hahha😆👌🏻 Guys, I've learned a ton of stuff, thanks!

Have not heard from Magix support about the proxies tho...😅

Does anyone know is the proxy bug fixed in the new version of MSS 2023 for example? I think I saw there was new version available.

And hey, someone asked about the export time and AMD drivers, I checked the CPU driver and it was up to date. Export time in 6min30s 4k 30fps video was about 12-15mins with my setup. With the Video ProX14

@CubeAce .... Doom!!

And yes, mixing video types, framerates and resolutions can cause problems for sure in editing and rendering everything out. I rarely use anyone else footage but my own.

@Former user I personally think that proxy editing is important, even if you have a very good computer. And knowing if proxies are being created (and have the option as to where they go), is most important. Not getting an answer from Magix is not good. They can acknowledge the problem and see if there will be a fix down the road.

Also, the only way to compare hardware results is if everyone uses the same project and list their hardware.

Hi there,

Still no answer From Magix about the proxy- problem. I decided to switch back to Movie Studio Suite 2023, since I did not get that much extra value from the Video ProX14. Same Proxy problem in both.

@Reyfox Did you had similar issues or do I remember correctly? I was wondering if you could also contact Magix support about this problem? Maybe they would react if more people contacted them for the same issue.

Waiting for some software updates, or updates about the issue..

Best,

-Sami

Sami, I think I've found a workaround. Import the first file. Proxy will be created. Import the second file: you'll get the "proxy skipped" message and the file will appear on the timeline. Delete the second file from the timeline. Now, reimport the second file; you should get a proxy, and so on.

Bit of a fiddle but it seems to work here; it might do until head-office gets it's act together.

For me, MMS 2023 is the worst version of Movie Edit pro/MMS Magix has ever put out, even after 4 patches.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Thanks! @AAProds I have to try that out asap.😎 Seems quite good option!

Yeah well my editing needs are still pretty basics so currently I'm doing just fine with the MMS 2023, maybe the ProX14 comes in need someday, who knows!🤔

Yeah I guess we'll have to wait and see for some update on this, hopefully soon though.

I'll let you know did your tip work! Thanks!💪

Reyfox wrote on 2/9/2023, 7:08 AM

@Former user what I edit depends whether I use proxies or not. If I know things are going to get complex, yes. If mildly complex no. My computer can hold it's own in me doing almost everything I do with editing. I don't have VPX14, but VPX12. if I have to edit 10bit footage. MEP2022 doesn't handle 10bit sadly.

For those with "average" computers, yes, proxy editing and it's workflow should be smooth. From saying what folders you want the proxies to go, to seamlessly setting things up to do it. I had no problems doing this in VPX12. MEP2022 is different, and doesn't have flexibility that VPX12 has.

Former user wrote on 2/9/2023, 7:19 AM

Hi, @Reyfox and @AAProds

Thanks Rey for your reply.

AAProds, I tried out your tip, unfortunately, it did not work for me. All the other files get proxys no problem, but not a single clip with the 8:7 aspect ratio... No matter if it's 4k or 5k or 30fps or 60fps.. Sad that these are the ones that I need the proxys most...

Well, I would not want to get any other program just for this one bug, so I'll hope they'll fix this.

Best regards,

-Sami

@AAProds, while I can afford to update yearly (I still won't bother with subscriptions though), I don't unless there is something specific that I want/need to edit. And then I read the comments from early adopters, wait for a few patches, and then decide. But there hasn't been any reason for me to upgrade.

VPX12 is fairly stable (outside of OFX plugins), and MEP2022 works for basic editing for me. But honestly, I'll use VPX before opening MMS/MEP. since I'll edit 10bit video most of the time. Anything I've shot in the few years, it's mostly 10bit. For really complex work, especially compositing, I have other editors, and they work wonderfully with OFX plugins, which are important to me.

Having a "toolbox" of editing software makes editing much easier for me. Each excels in specific areas, but none excel in every area.

Hi all

After doing some digging into the GoPro 11 8.7 aspect ratio video format, it would appear to be a compromise AR for creative content users which enables recording a video once, and from the result create both 16:9 and 9:16 AR videos to fit the various Social media sites and devices.

I suspect that proxies are not created for the 8:7 AR video is because the AR that is supported by the proxy file format. Whether this could be added to the MXV proxy file format I do not know.

@johnebaker, a good point. I was looking at the aspect ratio and it didn't register. I have no go pro footage, so don't know their file formats. I don't know of any other camera the supports that specific aspect ratio.

Hi guys!

Got some response from Magix Support, glad about that. But. The response I got as a 'solution' was "turn of the create proxys- button". Not too much help so far, will keep you updated if I get something usefull. 😅

Best,
