Poor result on still image travelling

I have a wide panorama (still picture 5536 x 2160). I want to travel on it from the left to the right to give some movement. I first zoom it so that the height fills the screen.

When travelling at the expected speed, the result is jerky, not nice at all. Travelling very slowly gives good results but is boring...

The exporting speed is fast: about 10% of the film duration.

I have a brand new high-end computer:

- Magix X PRO 15 up to date.

- CPU: Intel i7 14th gen (14700k)

- RAM: 48Gb @ 5800 MT/s (nominal 7200)

- GPU: Asus RTX4070 Proart

- SSD: 3x WD Black SN850X (1Tb system, 2Tb Data (Magix target), 1Tb Rushes (Magix source)

The result is independent of the encoding format.

I'm exporting in H264 HD (not 4K), using all defaults, exception made of some trials:

- Maximum bitrate increased to 60 000 instead of 28000 ==> not better

- The encoding quality set to max ==> not better

- Reduce the fram groups to 5 instead of 25 ==> not better
I definitively do not master at all exporting parameters, so please guide me to improve the export quality ! I'm probably missing key parameters...

I would like the software to export somewhat slower but getting panoramic travel smoother.

In the meantime, I will try a workaround: On a separate video, create a video of my travelling, very slow with good quality. The importing it in my project and increase its speed by 10... Hope it works, but not the way it should be done...

Marc, here are all the options for refresh rates on the monitors at my local computer shop:

For us PALers, I fear we're stuck with using NTSC numbers! 😂 Although, at some point (as shown by my TV), the panning using 25 or 50 will become acceptable. 75? 120? Who knows without trying.

Please do not tell my laptop it is an 'odd ball' ?

Windows cannot do maths properly the refresh rate is 144 Hz and Marc's image pan plays smoothly at all framerates from 24 - 60 fps.

They also all perfectly play on my old computer connected to an old low end tv ( as monitor) at the condition that I adapt its fps to the video.

The issue is definitively the fixed 60 fps rate of my current screen…

Hi Marc

Your monitor has a Refresh rate range of 56 - 76Hz, it also has a very wide range of resolution settings from 480p up to its native resolution 1440p.

I am beginning to suspect this may be a Windows issue - possibly the driver, or you do not have the Dell Display Manager installed.

There is also a firmware update for the monitor - see here.

Would making a Window restore point before trying to update or add software to roll back everything if anything went wrong help?

A restore point is an important 'safety tool', up to a point it is useful for reverting back to previous Windows 'state' eg if a driver cannot be rolled back, reverting to the Restore created before updating will do the job.

There are situations where a restore point is not sufficient in correcting an issue with Windows updates, or programs. This is where tools such as System File Check (sfc) and the Microsoft Diagnostic for programs which will not install/uninstall are needed.

I updated the firmware of my screen.

I checked in the Dell Display Manager

The full resolution remains available only in 60Hz...

I checked the HD resolution in 50 Hz. It can display my videos at 50 fps. The movement is smooth, yes ! But the image is awful... 😩

The manual confirms the limitations:

I'm giving up with that monitor... It just can't correctly display 50 fps video and I can't produce my video in 60 fps due to my rushes in 25fps.

I'm looking to this affordable monitor at 100hz native in full resolution: MSI Pro MP341CQ 3440 x 1440, 100Hz. In the full resolution, the manual recommends 50hz, exactly what I'm looking for! It also takes 60hz in the full resolution. A wide screen is nice to edit video and also for other tasks.

I can quickly switch between 50Hz, 60 Hz and 100Hz.

In 50Hz mode, my 25fps and 50fps video are perfectly displayed. Exception made of the "fast" pan from a still picture that isn't nice at 25 fps. It requires 50fps. Video at 30 and 60 are jerky.

In 60Hz, it's just the opposite, 30 fps and 60 fps are nicely displayed, 25 and 50aren't so nice.

A UWHD screen is definitively nice for video editing😀

Thanks to all for your support, I definitively learned a lot with this post.

Summary for those going from the title right to the conclusion...

Step 1: Double the FPS (Here from 25fps to 50 fps). Gave here just an improvement, not a full solution.

Step 2: Display the video on a TV. Unlike a computer, a TV automatically adjusts itself to the right FPS. All video where nicely and smoothly displayed ! The problem is just when playing video, not Magix related. Nobody sees the problem outside myself on my computer...

Step 3: Get a monitor that has a native adequate "vertical frequency" (or fps). I my case, I have video in 25 and 50 fps. I also want the possibility of working in the future in 60Hz. I looked into the manual before purchasing my new screen. In my selected screen, I found for the native resolution:
