Hi Ray,

After typing in a value, did you press Enter or Tab?

Hi John.

That's where we probably differ. I always use the sliders, I don't type values.

Hi John.

I did. You used the word 'adjust', not type. Therefore the implementation method was left open.

I have re-run the experiment again, this time typing in the values. Still worked but I always press enter after a command out of habit in general. It doesn't work without an enter command, but then I would half expect that.

Now I will press the comment button to complete this reply.

Hi Ray,

The comment from @marcusdeman was:

Also, one can enter the numbers into the field to which the setting needs to be adjusted and again you can move to the next field. Such as using the tab to go to the next input field. But still the adjustment has not been applied until one presses enter.

Thus, I would logically assume that Marcus was entering the numbers into the fields by typing them.

Yes, I said "adjust" and should have said Enter or Type, but I never mentioned sliders as I was following on from what Marcus said. Using a slider automatically puts the effect into the keyframe area and one does not have to use Enter for the value to stick. So, obviously, one is typing the numbers into the fields, not using the sliders.

Tab is a universal key to go from field to field and should do the same as Enter. In MMS/VPX, as Marcus and I have pointed out, Tab does not do the same thing as Enter when used after entering a value in a field (or box).

In my instructions for testing for the bug, I specifically said to use Tab and not Enter.

So, just for you, type the value into the field (or box) and press Tab. Nothing happens. Click in another field. Nothing happens. The effect is not applied. Press on reset (the X button in VPX15 and I presume in MMS2024) at the upper right of the effect page, and the value that was typed in is not reset. And so on.

Hi John.

I still don't understand the problem.

Unless you press Enter the cursor stays blinking in it's last position and nothing has changed. That is clearly evident looking at both the effects area and monitor. Once Enter is pressed, the change is applied and the next needed text box can indeed be selected by using the Tab button however many times it needs to be pressed. (I just tried). Using Tab instead of enter may be the next natural next step for you but not for me.

I have never thought about this as I use the mouse not keyboard or shortcuts. That leaves my free hand for drinking tea 😂😉.

What does the manual say to do?

Agree. Hitting Enter to lock in those numbers is not logical at all and annoys me too.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Looking at the manual there is nothing mentioned about the use of the Tab key on its own. When referring to the use of effects controls it clearly states in all instances to use the sliders. No mention of shortcuts or use of individual keyboard keys.

In the shortcuts section there is also no mention of the Tab key. But there is mention of key customisation so maybe what you want from the program can be altered from there?

Hi all,

Thanks for your input.

Maybe I am using VPX differently than you which caused me to have these issues. I will try and explain what my process is.

I often shoot short video's of 1 minute one after another and want to process and edit them separately in VPX. Imagine having like 20-30 of these short video's so at some point I want to find shortcuts.

Every time I adjust things like contrast, gamma etc and I have to re-enter and adjust them accordingly depending on the lighting. So to make this part more swiftly I enter the values on my keyboard instead of using my mouse to slide. In other (Windows) programs using the Tab key to move from 1 field to another seems like a consistent approach but apparently with VPX it is not.

Another thing is that I open 1 project and select the appropriate project settings. Then I move in the first video, make the adjustments and then export it with the export settings I want to use at that time. When done, I remove the video and insert the second video and do the same process. At this phase what happens is that the old settings of the previous video is still there instead of being put back to default.

So this is the part where the filename change issue comes in that when I want to start the export, rename the output file, make adjustments again, VPX will not remember the output filename. But apparently this is how it is designed.

@CubeAce

Hi Ray,

I used Brightness/Contrast as an example. Sliders do not appear in all effects. In all cases where there is a box, the user can enter (Type) a value in the box. In that case, the user has to hit Enter for the value to stick. Using Tab, which, as I and the others have pointed out, is universal key for moving from box to box and should do the same thing as Enter. We would like Magix to allow this.

Where are the sliders in the image below? Only Rotation has sliders.

I know, you'll say to use the handles in the Preview Monitor (there is no longer a handle in the preview monitor to adjust the rotation). If I know what value I want, usually the case, I'll type it in, not play around with the handles and moving the image around. I should be able to press Enter or Tab and have the effect applied.

As for what I said was a bug or at least a potential problem, you still have not understood it at all.

I'll repeat it. Do not use any sliders. On the first video clip, with no effects set, type 80 into the Brightness box. Tab. Nothing happens. Note that the slider box for HDR blur now has a blue rectangle around it (or another effect box), but the cursor is still in the Brightness box. The Contrast box should have been the next one, but for some reason, the first time round it is not. Click in the box for HDR gamma and type 10 into the box. Tab. Or instead of Tab, click in another box using the mouse. Nothing happens. Press on Reset (the X at the upper right in VPX15/MMS2024). Nothing happens and the incorrect or unapplied values remain. On the timeline, move the playback marker to somewhere over the second clip which should have no effects set. Select the second clip. Look at the values for Brightness and HDR gamma. They are 80 and 10 respectively. They should be the default values, 50 and 0, respectively. No effect has been applied to clip 2. Press on Reset, Nothing happens. The values are still 80 and 10. Click back onto the first clip. The values are still 80 and 10.

Now click on the 80 in Brightness for the first clip. Enter. The value is now applied, the image changes, and the Brightness effect shows up in the kf area. However, the value of 10 under HDR gamma has not been applied. Click on the second video and Brightness has now gone back to the default of 50, but HDR gamma is still 10.

Save the project, exit, reload. Check the Brightness/Contrast effect on the first clip. It shows 80 for Brightness which has been applied, but still shows 10 for HDR gamma, which has not been applied.

So, one can have values in the boxes that have not actually been applied. This should not happen. What should happen is that when one types a value into a box and either presses Tab or navigates with the mouse to another box, the effect should be applied. We would like Magix to modify the program to allow this, or explain why it is not possible to implement.

@marcusdeman

Hi Marcus,

I often shoot short video's of 1 minute one after another and want to process and edit them separately in VPX. Imagine having like 20-30 of these short video's so at some point I want to find shortcuts.

I am having difficulty understanding your workflow. If I understand correctly, you start a new project. Do you give it a project name? If not, you should. Do you save it?

Then, you put videos clips on the timeline in Movie 1, the name of which will be the date by default if you did not give the project another name. You edit, export, but have to change the name from the date or default project/movie name to something else.

Then, you delete the videos from the timeline and import new video clips, edit, export, but have to change the name. Why?

This is a very strange workflow.

We are in agreement that Tab should do what Enter does.

However, if you are using the same or mostly the same values from one video to another, then you should be using the copy/paste effects (there are shortcuts for this as I have mentioned) to speed things up. Since you are deleting the videos from Movie 1 each time, if you have not copied the effects to the clipboard, there is no longer a video clip containing the effects that you can copy and you have to input them again. So, I suggest that you change your workflow.

As for the strange workflow, my question is why are you not giving the project a name, which will be the name of the first Movie, saving the project, keeping each Movie, adding a Movie for each new video that you want to create? What happens if you have to go back and edit a Movie/Project? You have to start again.

See the image below. I named the project "Test for Marcus" but I should have used Test1, so I renamed the first movie Test1, then created 2 more Movies and gave them the names Test2 and Test3. In each Movie, when I go to Export, the Movie name will be proposed by default. Thus, if you give each Movie the name that you want for the Export file, it will be there by default. This way, you would have your entire project saved. This is one of the reasons for having multiple Movies/timelines. For anyone coming from Vegas, Vegas does not have multiple timelines.

Finally, since you still have the first Movie with the video clips containing effects, you can quickly go back, copy the effects of a video clip to the clipboard, and paste into another Movie. As well, you can copy objects, including titles, from one Movie to another.

Save and keep your projects.

Hi

. . . . Every time I adjust things like contrast, gamma etc and I have to re-enter and adjust them accordingly depending on the lighting. . . .

Assuming you are wanting to add the same corrections to all video clips, you can save them as a 'package' of video effects.

Add and adjust the effects to a single clip then right click the video portion and select Video effects, Save video effects and deselect any effects you do not want to save in the effects 'package' as shown in the images below

You can the add these effects to other clips by right clicking the video portion and select Video effects, Load video effects.

Note if the corrections are not uniform then you can use the above as a starting point for minor adjustments

Hi John.

I'm not sure why my responses are apparently upsetting you so much as those keyboard keys are not even mentioned in the manual. You may use the tab key a lot, I don't think I ever have within a program.

We all know there are omissions and inaccuracies in the manual and have been for years. We also know things break as well as sometimes get repaired from time to time. Tab doesn't always jump to the next text box either in some of the effects. One extra stab at the keyboard was all that was needed for a workaround. How many workarounds have we needed in the past? Add it to your list and cross your fingers. Did it ever work in a previous version? I have no idea.

As for there being no sliders in the zoom, position, rotation effect.

It has worked like that since it was changed. Why a vertical rather then a horizontal movement, I have no idea.

Admittedly even that is a bit balked but it is the way used in some of the third party effects as well. (Also not documented by Magix).

Hi

. . . . Why a vertical rather then a horizontal movement . . . .

I have a theory that this is a way of achieving coarse and fine control of the particular parameter - drag up/down with the mouse gives you coarse value, then use the mouse wheel over the box for fine control.

Yes it may seem a bit strange and perhaps totally not as it should be.

I have 1 project that I use for this as it already has the mp4 export settings that I want to use it for. I load up a movie, adjust its settings and want to export it called something like "org_movie_name_exported.mp4"

But the export dialog shows of course the project name which is understandable. My only problem is that VPX doesn't remember the filename that I entered and keeps reverting back to the project name.

We are in agreement that Tab should do what Enter does.

Correct and based on your findings I'm not sure if it is a bug or works as designed.

I will try this method to see if that works.

As for the strange workflow, my question is why are you not giving the project a name, which will be the name of the first Movie, saving the project, keeping each Movie, adding a Movie for each new video that you want to create? What happens if you have to go back and edit a Movie/Project? You have to start again.

Once exported I don't need to go back and edit it again. So for me there is no point in having tons of these project files in the directory.

Finally, since you still have the first Movie with the video clips containing effects, you can quickly go back, copy the effects of a video clip to the clipboard, and paste into another Movie. As well, you can copy objects, including titles, from one Movie to another.

Save and keep your projects.

John CB

Thanks for your advice!

@marcusdeman

Coming somewhat late to this discussion, but if I understand correctly what you are doing, the "problem" of effects transferring between your "projects" is, I think, that you are using the same project name, and therefore, database file for each different video you wish to import, edit and export. Effects, once applied to a project, are "written in" to that project file, not the specific video file, to be used at the exact time location specified on your timeline. When you import a different video file to that timeline, VPX simply uses its already-saved data to activate those effects at whichever time-point they were used for your previous video file.

emmrecs wrote on 11/13/2023, 8:00 AM

@holgerdrescher

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

DeepL translates your post as:

  • I recently purchased the X15, and found that this new version has NO color areas for, among other things, designing a belly band and are only available in the Delux variations, why not in X versions. For the price it should already be there, and for the price even more so

Unfortunately I suspect this translation is not accurate (Google Translate makes it even worse) and so I am not sure what you are asking about, sorry!

Can you give a lot more information about your question, please?

Hi

After consultation with my wife, we both agree that Bauchbinde, in video terms means Lower thirds ie Captions/Text with a background image

Nach Rücksprache mit meiner deutschen Frau sind wir uns beide einig, dass Bauchbinde in der Videosprache eine Einblendung am unteren Bildrand ist zB. ein Text, siehe untern.

Hello John en Jeff,

...in video terms means Lower thirds ie Captions/Text with a background image.....

@holgerdrescher writes that he had to determine that there are no color areas in Pro X15 for designing your own title template (Captions/Text) and that these color areas are present in Video Deluxe2024. Hence my previous answer. Now we can only wait for the response from @holgerdrescher

Example from Video Deluxe 2024

Example from Pro X15

Best wishes, Rob

Issue with X15 and BorisFX Continuum Particle Illusion.

1. Effect applies fine

2. when clicking on "Launch PI 2023.5" button within the BCC Particle Illusion there come a Magix X15 popup as below. Plugin works fine in Vegas.

@Almin

Hi.

You could try emptying the programs cache but Video Pro X is not on the Particle Illusion supported list of products.

It will show up in VPX as any third party effects do on a machine that has both programs but not all effects will work on either program.

You will also find VPX has limited controls to quite a few OFX effects compared to Vegas when in use.

I have yet to have any real success with Boris FX Continuum or Sapphire and VPX14. Especially, the BCC+ plugins where you would click on FX Browser button. BCC+Film Stocks, a staple for me will not load the browser. Clicking on Mocha button causes VPX14 to crash.

I've found that VPX seems to work well with NBFX plugins better. But strictly OFX Boris (I'm using Continuum Complete 2024), it's really not something I would even attempt to use in VPX.
