Driver installation for MAGIX K0065 (Windows 10 64-bit)

ANE-ZWNBSP wrote on 6/11/2019, 4:26 PM

Hello all,

After installing "MAGIX Video easy Rescue Your Videotapes!" via a physical DVD in a box (marked MAGIX Rescue Your Videotapes!) as purchased from Magix Software's website, I am having trouble with getting the drivers to install for the included K0065 video capture device, and no device is listed in the programme after selecting "Import video from analogue source".

I have Windows 10 64-bit installed, and the above programme installed to the 64-bit program directory. Following installation, the drivers were installed (and I held off connecting the K0065 until prompted by the installer), but the drivers do not seem to be installed fully.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers (and the same for the main programme) and using another USB port. The steps I take are:

  1. Run \addon\Driver\setup.exe from the DVD drive
  2. Get a prompt to connect the device, which I do
  3. I click OK to install the "Conexant Polaris Unused CIR Function" and "MAGIX Video converter 3" device drivers
  4. I get the installation results, but only the "MAGIX Video converter 3" has a result of SUCCESS with no other line listed.
  5. At this point, in "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers" under "Unspecified" is listed a "Video Grabber" with the status "Driver is unavailable"
  6. Checking in Device Manager, under Other Devices I have "Video Grabber" with the warning triangle ("The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)". Under "Sound, vision and game controllers I have "MAGIX Video converter 3" and this looks fine.

After looking over this forum, this seems to have popped up now and then with reference to the wrong bit type of driver being installed, but without any conclusion. A screenshot of my Device Manager is here, along with the error I get if I try to use "Update Driver" and point Windows into the \addon\Driver folder on the DVD (the same error shows when selecting either the x86 folder or the x64 one.)

I think that covers everything I've tried - I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious here☺️

Yeah... I'm in the same boat. Hard to believe they're still selling it when it doesn't work and appears to be unsupported!

There are many drivers out there for the black unit but not as many for the red and white. This thread may help you; I am about to try some of these options. But I am close to returning this thing to the store; I wanted something to save time not waste it! https://www.magix.info/uk/forum/magix-rescue-your-video-tapes-doesn-t-recognise-vcr--1167887/#ca1462935

Hi

. . . . Hard to believe they're still selling it when it doesn't work and appears to be unsupported . . . .

Where did you buy the software from - if you got it from a store then they are selling off old stock. The current version available on the Magix Website uses a black converter the K0067

@ANE-ZWNBSP

What is the version number of the program as found under Help, About

Hello all,

A bit of news back to report. After raising this with Magix, it turns out that the following settings need to be on:

  • Settings->Privacy->Microphone->Allow desktop apps to access your microphone
  • Settings->Privacy->Camera->Allow desktop apps to access your camera

Once these were switched on, and with a fresh install...success! It seems that Microsoft Windows 10 counts the Video input device as a Microphone and Camera, so if the above settings are switched off, it blocks any access to the device.

@johnebaker

After an update, I have version 6.0.2.31(UDP3)

Hello Magix

Need help. Same issue here with K0065 (black stick). Just received from mail. I have installed according to Magix instructions but the driver was not working (Code 28). I have tried to uninstall and then reinstalled the whole software without any result. I have also tried to uninstalled only the video grabber driver and reinstall the 64 bit driver from the CD but no luck. On the Windows 10 Privacy policy for Microphone and Camera were both options on "Allow" but the software "MAGIX Video easy Rescue Your Videotapes!" app was not listed for the allowed apps to use the Microphone and Camera. Please see the attached.

@Alxcos

Hi

From the information you have posted - did you re-install the program as in the solution ?

Set the privacy settings first, then install Rescue Your Video Tapes (RYTV)

. . . . I have also tried to uninstalled only the video grabber driver and reinstall the 64 bit driver from the CD but no luck. . . . .

I no longer have RYVT, however if the program installs to the Program Files (X86) folder than you need the 32 bit version of the driver.

I would also recommend that you download the Revo Uninstaller to remove the program before re-installing, this will clear up any remnants which get left behind.

. . . . Windows 10 Privacy policy for Microphone and Camera . . . . the software "MAGIX Video easy Rescue Your Videotapes!" app was not listed for the allowed apps . . . .

It will not be there, Desktops Apps are different from Apps in that click the link shown below to see why.

Hi John. Tks for reply. I had the Privacy settings set (same as in the Instructions) long before installing RYVT. While uninstalling and reinstalling the software I was using the CCleaner to clean the Win Registry. I do not have Revo.

The RYVT installed into the Program File (as per attached). Thus, I had used the 64bit driver. The laptop I was installing to, it' s an ASUS G74S with 16Gb RAM.

Thanks for help.

@Alxcos

Hi

. . . . I was using the CCleaner to clean the Win Registry . . . .

That is not enough you also need to remove any files left behind by the uninstaller - they should be in one or more of the following folders:

  • c:\Program files\Magix\program name

  • c:\Program files (x86)\Magix\program name

  • c:\ProgramData\Magix\program name - this is a hidden folder so you may need to set Windows Explorer to show Hidden files.

Revo will do this for you so long as you start the uninstall using Revo - I linked to the free version of Revo Uninstaller in my comment above.

Still, the Video grabber' driver has the same "Code 28" error (attached).

johnebaker wrote on 8/25/2019, 7:24 AM

@Alxcos

According to the first image the installer message is asking you to upgrade the drivers - did you do this?

If this was done then something is stopping the installation of the drivers - if you are using Windows Defender as your Antivirus try turning off the Protected folders option:

Open the Windows Security app, click Virus & threat protection, Manage ransomware protection.

Set Controlled folder access to Off.

Then update/install the drivers - they will be on the disk so this can be done from the Device Manager letting it search the disc.

Hi John, all,

I am struggling with the same problem(s).
The error I get 'A problem was encountered while attempting to add the driver to the store'. It could be that the device driver is not signed, and the Internet suggests 'BCDEDIT /set nointegritychecks ON' on a administrator CMD window, but my PC now (W10 update 1903) says it has a secure start-up strategy and this cannot be changed. Any suggestions?

johnebaker wrote on 8/26/2019, 4:34 PM

@koen44

We require more information:

  1. Which software are you installing to use the capture device?

  2. What is the make/model of the USB capture device are you trying to install drivers for, if it has no markings what colour is it and is it a device from Magix?

  3. Is the driver you are trying to install the one that came with the device - either from the CD or download from Magix?

  4. Did you try turning off folder protection in Windows Defender?

The BCEDIT . . . . fix is an absolute last resort fix and not to be taken lightly - it is a high security risk option.

The genuine driver will be digitally signed.

Hi John,
Some updates:
1. I got a package (french version) of RYVT (version 6.0.2.31 (UDP3) after an update. While it does install into Program Files (so the 64bit version), it does lanch an X86 version for drivers.
2. The analog2USB dongle is a K0065 black device.
3. The device is the one from the CD.
4. I had the windows privacy / folder protection settings already to 'off' as suggested here.

When I start from scratch and plug in the dongle, two 'new' devices appear in the device manager. One pilot installs as 'Magic Video Converter 3'. The other driver does not install. Windows signals an error 'the driver cannot be added to the store'. The BCDEDIT doesn't work anymore, but there is a means to install an unsigned device driver. That allows to install the (apparently unsigned) driver on the CD.

I discovered the reference to the thread on the UK forum. The drivers in the 'VW-Schwarz' package did install correctly without any workaround, so I have all components up and running.

When I plug in my camescope via the composite channel, I get an image, but not yet from the VCR.

johnebaker wrote on 8/27/2019, 6:40 AM

@koen44

Hi

Pleased you are up and running.

. . . . I get an image, but not yet from the VCR . . . .

This could be the SCART lead or SCART to RCA plug adapter if you are using one.

There are basically 4 types of plug/lead - video in, video out, video in and out fully connected/wired or video in and out with a switch to change direction and 3 connectors or RCA plugs.

It was indeed the SCART to RCA plug adapter. The one that came with the kit didn't work (or was perhaps wired for video out). I got one with a switch to change direction, and now it works fine.

The kit cable should be wired for OUT from the VCR.

Does the VCR have more tan 1 SCART socket?

If so, it may be the same as mine, one or more sockets are IN only, for connecting another device eg older satellite receivers with no DVR, for pass-through to the TV or recording by the VCR, the other is IN and OUT.

Hi John

I could not install the driver for K0065 based on the original CD. The Windows Defender is superseded by BitDefender TS. Thus, the folder protection was handled by BitDefender. I have tried to put those folders unprotected and reinstall the video grabber' driver with the same unfortunate result.

However, I have followed @koen44 thread and installed the "Treiber Premium Wandler" from Magix (with upgrade option). The driver install went through without any workaround and there were no more errors on Device Manager (attached).

Yet, same as @Koen44, I have no video feed from the K0065. During the records capture, I can get only the Audio feed but not the video. Please note that I'm using the RCA plugs and the video preview is not available as per attached.

After some more fiddling I manage to get the video feed, too.

Thanks

I have a similar problem! A few days ago I upgraded Windows and got problems with drivers! I understand that it's important to install the right drivers for the correct operation of the entire device. That's why I've downloaded software from an official site, not from a selection, as it’s safer, I think!! Used driver updater software http://thinkmobiles.com/blog/driver-easy-review/ Hope everything will work great
