Monk's New Year!

Hello Folks:

The other day, I was digging around in some of my old recordings, and found a little jam session (on open-reel tape for heaven's sake) that our bass player and myself did late one evening while messing around at a friend's small studio in New York City.   We were playing around with the Thelonious Monk classic,, "'Round Midnight".

I transferred this over to MP3 format (through the magic of modern audio technology).  <lol>

This little snippit, by no means, represents the entire session, but I thought maybe some of the Jazz adherents within this community might find it interesting enough to give it a listen.

Thelonious Monk, for all of his perceived mental 'incongruities' had, and to a great degree, has, a great and lasting influence over the modern Jazz scene (as well as my own earlier pianistic efforts).  His stamp should NEVER be forgotten within the contemporary Jazz community.

This tune is NOT for everyone.  However, those who may not be familiar with Monk's life's work, can Google.

Please excuse the song's quality, but hey...

Happy New Year!

Griff

Just a jam session, but it's a wonderful piece of music which shows the music souls of you two.

Bravo - more of those old recordings!

Hi Griff,
again a flawless number from you! I am of your precision as the play, always been impressed! This combination of keys instrument with bass (fretless?) Underlines my high opinion of yourself!
I hope you pull in to the walk thick gloves .......... would be a shame if your talented artist fingers would take damage!

warm greetings freddy

Hi Griff:

Well im beginning to get tired... but you never make anything less than great???

This time very well accompanied with the bass of Carl... and what a Bass ... so simple, so minimalist, and yet, right on target... sometimes less is more and here is the proof... that's one of the many things that i have to learn in my playing !

Wonderfull piece and i would love to have heard it live ...

All the best

Emanuel

I don`t think so. Hi, I call it a little "Smoothie" But the bass sounds a little extravagant in my ears.

All the best in 2014, Uwe

As always a pleasure listening music so nice and sweet!

Interesting jam session.

But was the bass player playing a "double bass" or something so? I hear double notes, so I think was not using contrabass. Anyway the sound is great.

All the best my friend.
