Windows 8 and MEP 2013 not displaying files

daveesler wrote on 3/8/2013, 4:30 PM

I do not know if this is a jvc issue, but i have a GY-HMZ1U and windows 8 does not display the files after turning on all files in settings.

Anyone know of a solution to this?

They show no files, just directories on the disc.

I was looking in the wrong directory, they were in AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM

I did change the windows settings to show all files, show system files and show hidden files.

Thanks for your response.

Hi

Can you explain more on what is not displaying the files and how you are trying to look for them ie:-

- are you referring to Windows Exlorer?

- are you trying to view them directly from the cameras flash memory or memoery card with the camera connected to the computer by USB?

- are you trying to view them from the memory card plugged into the computer?

Have you installed any drivers that came with the camera?

Do you have the camera set to record 3D in MVC format - if so you may need to purchase the MVC codec to import into MEP.

Correct, in windows explorer, they do not show the .MTS extension, but I was able to copy the directory and the files showed up in movie edit pro 2013.

I recorded them in AVCHD TXP mode.

I was a able to do a short rough edit with some test footage.

As for the MVC codec, I did not know that was extra, or it existed. Are you refering to the MP4 MVC mode, a jvc propretiary format?

Hi

. . . . .they do not show the .MTS extension . . .

This is because Windows Explorer is set by default not to show known file extensions - this can be changed in its settings as shown here.

. . . . .I was a able to do a short rough edit with some test footage . . .

This indicates that MEP has picked up the correct codec otherwise you would have been asked to activate it - presumably you have already installed the JVC codec.

I have bought MVC codec and AFAICS it is not possible to export or burn a 3D movie using the MVC codec a message pops up saying this is not possible due to licensing issues. I have to use Side by Side format for 3D discs played on my TV.

Just as a coda. I got an ssd drive, and installed it in this new windows 8 machine, specifically to edit stereo video. I had to get a new computer. The old one was 32 bit, maximum memory but slow to this 8 core amd with 16 gb of memory. To make a long story short, I spent several days trying to get the ssd and the HD to both work correctly. The good news is that when I changed the bios settings, I finally got it right. Turn on AHCI in bios and then in windows 8 format and allocate the 2TB drive that came with the system. Then the 2TB drive showed up as a useable drive. I did turn on S.M.A.R.T.

From what I understand windows 8 handles trim, so I do not have to worry about it if ACHI is enabled.

Every time I set up a new computer, I aways run into problems. The good news is I figured it out.
