Why won't MEP 17 burn a dvd?

livingston59 wrote on 11/26/2015, 9:21 PM

Ok, I am running Windows 7 64, MEP 17+ and have tried numerous times to burn a dvd. MEP is incapable of recognizing the correct type of disc in the device. I have Verbatim DVD-R and it keeps saying it is DVD+R. Next, I have followed all the directions in the manual and on this forum that I could find.

Yesterday, the burning failed and I did not get the log file to post on here. This morning I tried again and it did burn only the first 15 minutes of a 99 minute movie.

After wasting allday reading the manual and the posts here I tried by starting over. But once again the software is completely incapable of working as it should. After wasting almost an hour it stopped with an error again! Here is what the log says:

The really rediculousthing is it claims there was no disc present but the disc was in the drive before I started the whole burn process because it showed the wrong type of dvd (+R) in the device.

Can anyone help identify the problem with this horrible software and help me rig it so it will actually work or is this software completely and totally worthless?

Hi

. . . .  26-Nov-2015 5:41:18 PM.629:   Step 1 done
26-Nov-2015 5:41:18 PM.646:   ERROR: PrepareDVDVideoFiles() failed with errNo 5 - encoding failed
26-Nov-2015 5:41:18 PM.659:   !!! DBK error in BurnProject: 10 - movie encoding failed !!! . . . .

This indicates that the video on the timeline has been encoded correctly.

How many timelines (movies)  are in this project?

If one then the next step is encoding of the menu.

Which menu template are you using for the DVD menu?

Try burning using a different menu template - the Red Smoke template has never caused me any problems.

Just one movie is in the project.

I did not use a menu this last time thinking that maybe the menu was the problem. I don't have a Red Smoke template. for some reason I only have three templates even after downloading and installing the Video plugins file. Actually I have no idea what the video plugins file does or what it is supposed to have in it since nothing seems to have changed.

My only templates are: Warm Pan Colored, Warm Pan and the default with no borders.

I went to Catooh but I am not willing to spend $60 per template. That is a real high price for something I don't feel I need or should have to buy to make this software work. If I can't get the software to work as is, then spending $60 on a template would be a waste of money. Seriously, I know the people that made the templates deserve to be paid for their work. But when the price of a single template is the same as the software itself something is wrong.

On to your other comment:  ....This indicates that the video on the timeline has been encoded correctly....

Hmm, if the encoding failed how does that equate to the encoding being done correctly?

Thanks for your help.

Hi

That is $60 better put towards upgrading to MEP 2016 Premium which comes with a lot more menus, templates, effects, disc burn options etc - which I would also highly recommend.

. . . . Hmm, if the encoding failed how does that equate to the encoding being done correctly? . . . .

Burning a DVD containing one movie with chapters and a menu comprises of 6 steps in MEP 17 which are as follows:

Step Action
1 Encode movie on timeline to intermediate files
2 Encode menus
3 Encode Chapters
4 Convert intermediate files to VOBs
5 Create DVD image
6 Burn image to Disc

. . . . I only have three templates even after downloading and installing the Video plugins file . . . .

In MEP 17 Plus I have 119 4:3 AR + 50 16:9 AR DVD menu templates divided in to the categories shown below

Check that you have the download options shown below installed
