Why is it difficult to just record my voice on a track?

Why can't I just press record and record my voice? Why do I have to know how long (how many bars) my recording will be before recording? I may not know how long I want to record and it may be a long time. Sounds like there is a better way than having to stretch the yellow bar for a super long time when I don't know yet when my song will end. Is there a simple way or easier way just to record my voice without stretching it out beforehand? Thanks

You can turn off looping with the blue button in the bottom left. This makes MMM ignore the yellow bar and just keep going. However, you do still have to stretch any instrumental you're recording over a long distance so you won't be recording over silence the same way you'd have to do with the yellow bar anyway. If you're recording acapella, this won't be a problem.

However, this is a moot solution because looping in the first place shouldn't even be an issue. No matter how short or long your yellow bar is, your voice continues to record linearly even after it loops. Say I have a four bar instrumental loop, and I start recording my voice, and it loops 4 times. When I'm done I'll be left with one 16 bar long recording of my voice, despite the fact that it looped. There's no need to stretch out the yellow bar beforehand, you can record for as long as you want.
