Why is a Audio track going into MIDI mode?

After using a track for audio recording (microphone, vocals etc). Randomly when I push the RED button (record function) it starts recording a "MIDI" data file. Doesn't make any sense to me. If I start recording on a track in audio I can't imagine any case where I'd also want it to contain MIDI data... Music Maker 2019.
Side note .. can you tell the software to not "echo" back the live mic during recording. Even in the low latency modes the delay is distracting.

By default a track is automatically set to MIDI REC, you have to arm (set) the track to AUDIO REC before recording.

Without knowing the actual setup you are using ie what is feeding into what and where and what settings you are using it is difficult to advise.

If you are monitoring using speakers while recording, then you are obviously going to get feedback. Turn off monitoring during recording.

Or, get an external interface, like the M-Audio M-Track and record and monitor with it. You can hear just the mic, just what is being played back from the computer, or a mix. Use the ASIO driver to reduce latency.

You’re not understanding. I am ‘punching’ in on a audio track. A track i have already recorded from a mic. Of course i ‘arm’ the track. Then I press the Record button. The question is why an audio track decides to switch into MIDI recording.

The latency question is “how to turn off input monitoring”. I need to hear the music in my headphones obviously but I don’t want to hear a ‘slightly delayed’ processed vocal or whatever I am using the mic to record. I use a Behringer Uphoria UMC404HD which has it’s own input/playback mix control, similar to any number of USB DAW type input devices. .such As Audinate, Behringer, Tascam, Steinberg, Presonus, M Audio, Mbox or Focusrite they are all similar in their ability to adjust the mix of live inputs versus playback from Magix.
