Why have I lost considerable quality after rendering and exporting my HD video to both pc and to YouTube, when I have set both movie and export settings to their highest level in accordance with the 1080p quality I'm rendering and exporting?

... ..It is crisp, clear, sharp while in edit mode, but loses considerable quality after rendering in HD 1080p MPEG4

Using:

Movie Edit Pro MX Premium, i7 -3770 processor, 16GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7770 2GB GDDRS Graphics. Ultra-Sharp Monitor, Windows 8, GoPro2 1080p footage

Hi

Try using the mp4 export option under Files, Export movie, Video as mp4.

Select the matching HD option for your video.

I also found I have to increase the contrast of the whole movie by 10 - 15 points

Hi John,

I tried what you had suggested and noticed that the detail settings found by going to Files, Export movie, Video as MP4 (MPEG-4) were set on a lower resolution of 720p, so I changed it to 1920 x 1080 and looked forward to a detail rendering. But to my surprise, it actually seemed to look worse that previous renderings. I don't know how that can be. The quality is about equivelent to 360p, maybe 480p at best. Squares all over the place, and considerable loss in detail.

Do you think I should try other formats like AVI, or another? Or will this not work?

Thanks for your help John!

I have now reset the 5min file from mp4 output to AVI. It had rendered quicker than the mp4 version did, but is a huge file, over 3GB now.. Saved to pc, and it looks excellent when played back..... So I now tried to upload it to YouTube and it completes the upload cycle (tho took over 700mins/ea. upload), but doesn't complete the processing cycle at YouTube... Tried it 3 times now.. not sure what to try next. Perhaps keep re-rendering in different formats until it works?

The upload prob was due to my limit of 2GB, so I split the vid in half, re-uploaded and put back together with YouTube editor which resulted in a hic-up at half way mark. Also lost colour saturation and the vid has taken on this kind of mechanical look, prob due to two processings at YouTube. The first mp4 formatted version uploaded had retained vibrant colour and smoothness, but loss in detail and was heavily pixellated.... I think what I need to do is to compress the AVI file less than 2GB (3.6GB now/ 5mins vid), and re-upload.. we'll see what happens.. If curious, it can be viewed here as it is now:
