This is kind of a wide open question without much in the way of detail. For example is it the same burner you had before the upgrade and did it work in another version of windows? If yes what version did it work in? What is the make and model of the burner? How much RAM do you have? Has anything changed with your system since the upgrade?
The answer to these questions is important to providing you with an answer that may help you find a solution. I and many others users on this forum could probably list 20 possible reasons why the burner is not recognized but with the minimal information you provided, we would all be guessing and you would be running around trying things that would be hit and miss.
Upgraded from a 2003 Dell computer Dim. 4600C with built in DVD burner 2GB Ram - 80 GB Hard Drive, using Windows xp Home external dvd drives HP dvd 1270 & HP dvd 640, both are burners and are working and up to date. New computer HP p2-1334 Windows 8 dvd burner installer, 4 GB Ram 500 GB Hard Drive. Everything worked before in the old computer with all (3) dvd drives. Everything works with the new computer except when you go to the burn dialog their is nothing listed in the burner box, normally this box will say Image Burner, then click the arrow and you can choose the drive you want to use, the HP burner install with in the computer or the 2 listed above, none shows up in the box.
Have you updated your burn routines to the latest available here
However this may not fix the problem if the writer is one of the very latest models, there may be no parameters in the burn routines to recognise the drive.
You can use Device Manager to find out which brand of DVD writer is actually fitted as shown below
Hello John, Yes, I have downloaded all the burn routines you mentioned and all of my drives are listed in the devicve manager and are up to date with the drivers, all of my dvd burners (3) all work with all of my other programs except for Magix, I can't understand what happened, I've even tried rebooting the program thinking I may have done something wrong but I still get the same results, the drives still are not recognized by magix, I could understand the program not recognizing my external drives, but not to recognize the internal drive is really crazy>
There are many suggestions among a variety of different forums (not just for Magix software) that you can get older software to work with Windows 7 and 8 by installing the software in a compatability mode.
However I consider this a temporary fix - the first OS update could undo everything you have done to make the software work.
This is a problem with new OS's and hardware, several other users are reporting the same problem with older versions of Magix software.
In my view there comes a point where you have no option but to upgrade to a newer version which is compatible with the new OS's and hardware (which can be significantly different from those available when the software was originally released).
This problem is not just limited to Magix software - for example, I have had to upgrade my older Nero and Paintshop Pro to the latest versions because of similar incompatability issues.
Hello John, Your probably right ... I've downloaded several dvd burning programs that will work burning my magix projects, the only down fall is that I have to burn my project in magix burning routine to file or folder in magix or a folder in my computer then burn it to a dvd using a different burning program that I downloaded, it's doing the same thing but only having to do it twice.I also tried opening the program in the compatibilty section under properties and it reacts the same in every mode. Also I learned that with Windows 8, it doesn't come with a dvd burner installed like all the other OS, 2000, XP, Vista or 7, they left it out because they want to hurry up to get it out by 10-26-12 , a download will be available later on in 2013, nice to find this out now after many of us up graded to 8. The Windows Media Player is no longer a dvd burner, it's just a player.
