why doesn't full video get to timeline? It plays okay on external players so is the full size.

Hi,

Haven't done any video for a few months so I am a bit older and rustier :-)

I am opening a new 5 min project. I have chosen the avi and tried to import it to the project folder.  It does show in VP in the project right side area.  I add it to the time line but only a minute + secs gets there.

I have not set anything to only import a part as far as I can recall.

Thanks

Hi

This is quite a common problem with AVI files - depending on the source - the file header information which tells the program playing the file is set incorrectly, not al  programs use this information so they will play the file correctly.

Try playing the clip in VLC (free download if you do not have it).  VLC will try and fix the header if it detects a problem - if it does this then the video should import into VP OK - make a backup copy before doing this.

There are many other 'solutions' to this problem, I have not used any of them so cannot recommend which one works, however if you search the Internet for 'avi video length incorrect' you will find many results.

Please exercise caution in trying any of the suggested solutions some may put 'extras' on your computer you do not want.

VLC is used by many members here, me included.

Many thanks.

Yes I do use VLC so will try as you suggest.

Strange as this is the first time it had ever happened to me.

Could I have accidently changed a setting maybe?

Hi,

I did some reading about this problem and understand the theory of it however I an wonderimg why it is only happening to Video X.

I tried the same clips in Sony Video Studio X3, Ulead Media Studio 8, the latest Cyberlink Power Director 12 and Magix Medio Pro 15 plus which I also boughty some time agon whilst looking for a replacement to Media Studio 8 which I used since its inception. The clips imported correctly in all of them. I went back to VPX and once again they were cut off at the same place.

I never had this problem before with VPX so wonder why all of a sudden it happening now especially when all the other programs I own import them correctly.

It is driving me bananas and either need to get to the bottom of it or move on and concentrate on Power Director which seems to be the quickest renderer by far and most forward thinking program. I see that t now has up to 4 cameras now which is one of my needs.

Should I re-install VPX, would that do it, or is it using a codec that the others aren't?

I'm just stabbing in the dark. Any help please?

Thank you so far Johnebaker I do appreciate your time.

Hi another question. Whilst trying to get this done, I tried to update my MEP15 Pro Plus and downloaded the update however after the 250 MB download, it said it couldn't find MEP installed so didn't install the upfdate.

I am baffled as it was from within my registered program that I did the update so it is certainly there.

Is there an easy answer to this or should I worry 'support'?

Thanks

oz
