Why do I get the wrong DVD type showing up?

ohherd wrote on 5/20/2016, 9:10 PM

When I insert a DVD-R to burn, it shows up in the burn window as a DVD+R and does not play back properly on my computer or in a DVD player.  I have Windows 10 and Magix Moie Edit Pro 17.  Is there a way to fix it without going back to Windows 7?  It worked fine in Windows 7.  I have tried other programs, and all of them recognize the disk as a +R instead of -R.

Hi

What make discs are you using?

. . . . insert a DVD-R to burn, it shows up in the burn window as a DVD+R . . . .

Movie Edit Pro has always done this from versions 17 through to 2016 ( and VPX 4 ) - AFAICS  it is an error in the text in the Burn dialog.

I have been using Ritek full face printable DVD-R discs, for more than 5 yrs, which MEP has always recognised as +R, however all other programs recognise them as -R and they play correctly on the computer and in DVD players - including a very old Panasonic DVD recorder - and, to date, have not had a disk fail to burn correctly.

. . . . I have tried other programs, and all of them recognize the disk as a +R instead of -R . . . .

This suggests that the discs are +R - and the packaging mislabelled, this, and

. . . . does not play back properly on my computer or in a DVD player. . . .

have been known to occur when using 'economy' brand discs.

I have used these discs, this particular package, and have not had trouble before upgrading to Windows 10.  I don't have them with me at this time, but I believe they are Verbatim.

Hi

MEP 17 is not compatible with Windows 10, however if you have no other problems with MEP 17 then try updating the burn routines available from here.

If the problem persists then try re-installing MEP 17 using this procedure

Note - if you have the download version, any bonus packages that came with this version may not be available now.

Alternatively you need to upgrade to a Wndows 10 compatible version of MEP.  If you decide to do this, leave MEP 17 installed until you are certain all your projects can be read by the newer version.
