My turntable is hooked up to a receiver and i have a cable running from my receiver's headphones output to my Dell 850XPS line input (as suggested in the Magix Cleaning Lab MX tutorial). Im running Windows 7. (I'm brand new to Magix Audio Cleaning Lab MX.)

With the setup you describe, you will not be able to import anything. All you will be able to do is "record" what your Dell sound card sees from your receiver. You need to set up your sound card so that it sees the "line input" set Audio Cleaning Lab to "record" and then begin playing your turntable.

Right after I posted this question, I tried moving my signal pickup point from the receiver's headphone output jack to an unused tape monitor (output) jack on the back of the receiver. Everything works fine now.
Still don't quite understand the logic of your original answer. Seems to me like the only difference between my original hookup (as suggested by Magix in their tutorial) that didn't work, and my new hookup which does work is that I've eliminated a lot of receiver circuitry, including its volume control which was messing up the level of the signal I was trying to record.

I think you got the point of my comment even though you don't realize it. The signal from your turntable is almost a thousand times smaller than the line input or your computer needs. So you found the answer on your own, but if you had provided a little more information I/We could have helped get you there sooner.
