Which MovieEdit Pro, I'm confused?

I downloaded what I thought was the correct demo but when I imported a video clip made on my Panasonic X900M camcorder with 5.1 surround sound, I noticed the sound track waveform was single, i.e. mono.  I thought all the 5.1 tracks would show up as separarate tracks in the timeline (as they do in the Sony Vegas demo), or at least as a stereo track.

Which version of MovieEdit Pro do I need to demo/buy in order to be able to import 5.1 (either as separate tracks or one stereo one)?

First, are you sure your audio track is mono?  You will see only one waveform, even if your audio track is stereo.

I can't say exactly which versions of MEP allow 5.1 surround sound but MX Premium certainly has an option to activate 5.1 (under Program Settings>Playback.)

However, is your computer soundcard 5.1 capable?  This is the single greatest determinat of whether you can work in 5.1.

Hi

Stereo and Surround sound normally appear as if they are single mono track - it is a composite view of both channels (stereo) or all 6 channels (5.1 surround sound).

To see the 5.1 sound channels you need to right click the sound track and select Display sound channels or, to extract the audio into its seperate channels, select Extract sound channels.

You will then see three 'stereo channels' ie L + R front, L + R rear and the Center + LFE channels as shown below.

Buy the Premium version of Movie Edit Pro MX - all codec licences necessary and extras are include in the software package
