Where do I start?

I am brand new the Music Maker MX 18.  I'm just wondering where I should start.  I'm interested in creating progressive rock soundscapes and Porcupine Tree type songs but I'm not sure how to go about translating pads files to edit them into piano rolls.  I'm also watching the intro video and it shows a LOT more soundpools than what I have started with.  What's with that?

To answer your last question first...  That's a little trick MAGIX uses to get you to upgrade.  What they're showing is the soundpools included with the PREMIUM versions of their Music Maker.  IMO no one should waste their time and money with the Basic versions anyway.

You should start by reading the owner's manual from cover to cover.  You'll find the PDF file in the Help menu > Documentation or from the Windows Start Menu > MAGIX > MAGIX Music Maker MX > Documentation...

As you read the owner's manual, you should play with all of the features you're reading about to learn how to use them.  The owner's manual DOES NOT cover every topic in minute detail.  Some things you'll have to figure out for yourself or ask about them here (after you've read the manual).

Sorry I'm not even sure how to use these forums.  When I purchased this program I didn't realize I was buying a dumbed down version.

It seems the files I can edit are TAK files.  There a ton of of pad sounds that are nice, but they seem to be OGG files.  I'd like to make some music but I'd need to obviously chnage the keys of each sound otherwise the song with be one note over and over again.

I'm trying to discover how to get a nice acoustic piano sound that I can write notes with rather than just pre-recorded loops and also some pad sounds that I can edit from note to note essentially creating a melody.  I'm used to using Fruity Loops and in there every sound is editable to change in a piano/graph layout.  I thought it was called "piano roll".

When I click on "keyboard" beside "Soundpools" that's sort of what I'd like (although I can only find instruments and not pads) but I'm not sure how to put that into an editor.

I have MMM-MX, but unfortunately, I still don't have a computer worth installing it on. I watched the tutorial video, and unfortunately, they don't show what the ""Keyboard" option is or does, although I'm aware they added a graphical "keyboard" to the program in the last version.

If you've watched the tutorial, you should know to make sure you are not in "Easy Mode".  If in Easy Mode, you wll not have access to all of the programs features and functions.

The ogg files are your standard audio files/loops.  The .tak files are alternate versions of an audio file that's had some effect applied to it.  You can create your own .tak files if you wish.

It sounds like you want to use the virtual instruments to create some MIDI files in Vita MIDI Editor (the "piano roll").  Unfortunately, the Basic versions of MMM do not offer as many instruments as the Premium versions.  If you don't have a few versions of an acoustic piano, you'll need to upgrade to the premium version.  Also, I believe you need to have the Premium version to be able to add other third-party VST instruments to the program.  You also have to have the Premium version to get the Revolta 2 synth (and others), which will add a number of synth pads to your arsenal of instruments.

You'll have to contact MAGIX (and pay some more money) to be able to upgrade to the Premium version.  They no longer make it a simple click-on link in the Help file like they used to (so I'm told).

Wow this news is really disappointing.  And now I've found out that when I record audio, it is WAY out of sync.  I've tried it on another audio editing software and it works fine.  Just in MM for some reason, the sync is way off.  I think that I may have to get a different program unfortunately.  Th9is isn't what I was hoping for.

Same goes for me...i really used to like music maker but i just wish it had the piano roll feature like fl studio or lmms. if you know of such a software like music maker having piano roll feature then do mail me.
