I've shoot some video using a Canon XF350 when I play this in Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus a get a clicking sound when the volume peaks. This doesn't happen in Adobe Premier. I've recorded and editied many hours of vidoe from a XF300, this sounds like I have the wrong codex or something.
Anyone any ideas?
Not really sure about this, but your comment that the clicking sound is heard "when the volume peaks" suggests that you might have some type of digital overload (=distortion) of the audio file. Such distortion often manifests itself as "clicks" heard at the point where the level exceeds 0dB. (In digital recording 0dB is the "absolute" ceiling above which ANY signal will distort.)
My impression is that MAGIX video editing products (I use Video Pro X as well as, more rarely, MEP MX) are not at all tolerant of levels even briefly hitting the ceiling; I even have a suspicion that they MAY slightly increase the level of any audio, though I can't definitively prove that! I also use Adobe Audition audio editor and it seems marginally more tolerant of such peaks. Since Audition is in the same "stable" as Premier this may be mirrored in your experience of Adobe's video editor.
For you in MEP, have you tried slightly reducing the audio level, say by 1dB or more in the mixer? If that removes the "clicks" at least you will know what is the cause. If that removes the clicks, for future reference (and having looked at the XF300 spec - a very nice camera BTW -) I see your audio input is via a pair of XLR mic sockets. Presumably there is an audio record level control for these? If so, slightly reduce the input level.

How do you get the video from the CF card into MEP?

I used the Canon Utility. The clicking is only there when the presenter speaks.

Is the clicking at the start of the speech or does it occur any time while the speaker is speaking?
My thinking is that if the presenter is holding a mike, or using a radio mike, plugged into the camera - then it may be that there is an initial 'pop' as the compander cuts in on the camera and/or radio mike link, and as Jeff has said MEP is not very tolerant of this.
Any chance you could put up an audio clip somewhere - a couple of seconds either side of the click would suffice - for us to have a look at

The sound is fine in Adobe Premier Pro and when I listened back though the headphones. I have done this many times without any problems. Although this was the first time I used a the 350 model which has time code built in for multi cameras. I spoke to Canon about this an they think it's something to do with the codex.
