I found this on the LG site regarding specifications for burning a large Blu-ray disc.

CPU

Intel@Pentium D 3.2GHz or Higher (with USB 2.0)

Recommended

Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz or higher

HDD

30GB or more of available space (60GB for Blu-ray Disc authoring)

RAM

1GB or Higher

BD Movie Playback CPU

Following CPU recommended -Intel: E6400 or higher

Graphic Card

Card recommended with following GPU (Graphic Processing Unit)

nVidia

GeForce 7600GT or higher / GeForce 8400 or higher Graphic Card Driver shall meet AACS compliance criteria.

ATI

ATI Radeon HD 2400 or higher Graphic Card Driver shall meet AACS compliance criteria.

Windows 10. No mention of Win 11 although I suspect if John and others are on Win 11 then the drives also work on Win 11.

The only thing of concern from a modern machine is I would think is ensuring enough spare C: drive space for authoring.

Do make sure your current machine is compatible with the latest version of Magix Movie Studio though or you won't be able to use the authoring section. Preferably meeting all the suggested requirements for HD.

Did you find a publishing date for those recommendations - they are very old - probably first released around 2001 and updated around 2008 and 2014.

My LG BD writer is approx 11 years old and work flawlessly on Windows 11 23H2.

Hi

There is no 'specification' requirement for BD burners.

If you are intending to purchase one, whether internal or external (USB) then any well known brands will work, however this may depend on your Windows version, ie Windows 10 and 11 should have no issues, older versions may not see the burner.

Tips:

1. Avoid cheap burners - I use LG for internal drives, and a Verbatim USB drive for my laptop.
2. Use reputable branded discs, I use Verbatim and Ritek printable discs.
3. When burning, do not burn at the full rated speed of the disc.
   I get higher burn reliability using a burn speed one or 2 speed steps down from the disc maximum.

Hi John.

I didn't look but was in the LG website.

The tech hasn't really changed so I assumed they just hadn't needed to update the page.

There were reviews from buyers on the same page from only six months ago though and I think the oldest was five years ago so 2020?

Thanks for your recommendation of burning the disc. I can use all the suggestions possible.

I bought a non major brand blu ray burner called MthsTec External Optical Drive model XD007. Magix Movie Studio software identifies the burner as a Pioneer type burner, and its not at all Pioneer brand. I suspect here's some kind of mismatch even though there's no error.

My movie is complete with chapters and table of contents. I verify hyperlink chapters everything works. I'm ready to burn disc.

After a successful disc burn, when I play the newly burned disc, the table of contents does not work. None of the chapters can be accessed on a blu ray player on PC, or when connected to player on TV. You have to play the disc from beginning and fast forward, or rewind to access chapters.

So I'm thinking maybe I need to get a major brand if blu ray burner for start.

From information I can find the BD drive is appears to be a non branded clone masquerading as a Pioneer drive.

How did you create this, a screenshot of it and the links would help?

What did you edit in, and add to the menu template?

Did you test the Chapter links in MMS from the Disk creation page - see video clip below, note the chapters are enabled as indicated in the about 10 secs into the video and this is a standard template with no modifications.

I would suggest you get a couple of BD-RE discs for the first burn so you do not waste discs creating coasters or with issues, once you get a successful burn and it plays as required then you can copy the disc to a permanent BD disk and re-use the BD-RE for the next project or fixing issues.
