VST3 plugin not working

Pauli-Viimaranta wrote on 11/22/2021, 4:07 PM

(Music Maker) I'm trying to use a plugin called Spitfire Labs. I can add it in and I can use it when I press the gear and open the plugin's own interface, but with music maker's actual midi keyboard I can't press the keys and they make no sound. I've checked all the keys. Also when I reopen the project it says the plugin couldn't be loaded and I have to re-add it. I've bought the vst support feature.

My system is a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 and I have Windows 10. I can provide screenshots of what happens and more detailed information if needed. Help would be appreciated.

@Pauli-Viimaranta

Please configure the audio driver in the program settings. You want to use ASIO, which is necessary if you want to hear anything while you are playing with a keyboard, you need to configure all inputs and outputs by clicking on the "Advanced..." button. If your outputs are not activated the playback not work.

Be aware, that if you have selected the Magix Low Latency driver inside the program settings in Music Maker you will not have any sound outside of Music Maker because this driver requires exclusive access to your sound hardware. You should get your sound back after closing Music Maker or after doing a clean reboot of your computer.

You can get around this issue by using another ASIO driver like the FL Studio ASIO driver. Just install the free FL Studio demo and then select FL Studio ASIO in the Music Maker audio settings. The Steinberg ASIO driver may also work fine if you install the free Steinberg Wavelab demo.

@SP. I've been using wasapi with my headphones for several months though, and that's the only way I get sound. Built in Music Maker plugins work and all other external ones I have work too. I think this is an issue with the specific Spitfire Labs plugin. Could you maybe test it?

@Pauli-Viimaranta

Please remember these are user to user forums, so no-one here can test anything for you unless another user happens to have the same plugin, sorry. Just to clarify: there are NO Magix staff present here.

@Pauli-Viimaranta Did you try the VST2 version of Spitfire Labs?

Pauli-Viimaranta wrote on 11/23/2021, 7:27 AM

@SP. Do you mean 32 bit? If so I haven't bought the feature that lets you use them yet. I could but I'm looking to see if there's a way to get the 64 bit one to work, as I don't see a particular reason why it wouldn't.

@Pauli-Viimaranta No, I mean just the VST2 version. The website of Spitfire Labs says it doesn't work in 32 bit DAWs, so it is likely that the VST2 version is also just in 64 bit. VST2 plugins use the file extension DLL instead of VST3. I know some other VST3 plugins that don't work in Music Maker but the VST2 version work fine.

A follow-up to what @SP. has written: you've not actually told us exactly which version and edition of MM you have.

@emmrecs 30.0.3.39 (Latest version), the free edition with the vst support feature bought.

@Pauli-Viimaranta

Thank you! That has removed one possible source of the problem.

As a test, I temporarily installed the core Spitfire Audio app on my machine, running MM Premium, latest version. It installed without problem and the VST and VST3 were both showing in Reaper, but not in MM! I have no idea why this should be but it seems your problem is one which affects other machines.

@emmrecs Thanks. I'll ask the staff about this then.
