VST Plugins

David-Pook wrote on 4/27/2021, 9:46 AM

I want to download other plugins available from various different websites to use with my DAW, but I am struggling to find the one I installed in music maker, its not appearing anywhere.

Does anyone know where to place it?? I used the common file location of C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins

Am i doing something wrong or is it a case that I can't use any VST plugin of my choice, only what Music Maker creates and uses??

Thanks if you can help 😀

What did you install? Is it a 64bit or 32bit plugin. Normally you install them in a standard folder such as the one you listed and in Music Maker direct it to that folder. It will then scan that folder and list any VST plugins.

What version of Music Maker are you using? The latest version only supports 64bit plug ins unless you add the VST bridge from the shop. If you are not using the latest version then you can only use 32 bit plugins.

@David-Pook

In addition to what @Graham-Hawker has written, which variant of MM do you have? If it is the Free variant, this does not allow for the use of external, non-Magix, VSTs or VSTis.

I am using 2021 pro version and I have a 64bit version installed. I just wonder where in Music Maker I am likely to find it, I was assuming it would be in INSTRUMENTS, but perhaps I am wrong on that?

I installed it in a folder that is also showing under program settings for folders/vst plugins, so music maker can locate it, but i am actually unsure where I am actually going to find it in the GUI of music maker.

Can you advise?

@David-Pook You need to install the VST feature. You need to specify the VST folder in the program settings. Then it is possible to use the VST instruments. For example by clicking on the header icon or the instruments tab.

Thanks for the images as that really helps, not just for me but others that come across this problem.

I can confirm that the vst support was acquired when I first purchased Music maker premium 2021. I can also confirm the mapping of my pathways is correct and I have installed the plugin i downloaded to the correct drive and folder.

My question is.... where am i supposed to see it in the GUI? as per your image, its certainly not listed there. So do I give up with this plugin from SPLICE website, or do you recommend another website that works with music maker DAW?

Hi

. . . . I am using 2021 pro . . . .

There is no 'Pro' version of Music Maker - you either have Free, Plus or Premium, or one of the special editions.

Assuming you are using the Premium version and have installed all the Extra Content then the VST bridge and Support should already be installed, however if you have the Plus version then you need to purchase the VST Bridge and Support features.

If the VST you installed is an Instrument then it should appear on the Instruments tab, however if it is an effect the it will be under the various Effects Racks as shown below

I can confirm it is premium 2021 version. I can also confirm that it is an effect, and I can also tell you it does NOT appear in the effect racks as thats what i originally thought, but its not there.

I am pretty stuck now as to where to find it, but am assuming as it was a free vst plugin..... its useless and doesnt work!!!

Any other ideas? Anyone want to share a website where i can get plugins that do work?

Graham-Hawker wrote on 4/27/2021, 11:01 AM

Please tell us what VST plugin you installed as requested.

Hi,

Splice has a lot of VST's and some VSTi's. What do you have? A VSTi is an instrument that will show up under Instruments. A VST is an effect that shows up under effects.

Also, where did you install it? The "correct" VSTplugin location is where?

Did you navigate to the path to tell Music Maker where the plugin is located?

@David-Pook Is it a 32 bit plugin? Then you need the VST bridge from the in-app-shop or a tool like jBridge.

David-Pook wrote on 4/27/2021, 11:48 AM

Its a VST

Its located in the correct folder as mentioned and yes, music maker knows where to find it as i have mentioned this location in this thread. Hence why i am surprised to not find it.

This is the plugin i have tried to get working:

@David-Pook

Having followed your link and then gone into the Blue Cat Audio site, I see the plugin is available in a range of formats, including X64 VST and X64 VST3, either of which should be available in MM 2021. It is also offered as X64 AAX which will NOT be usable in MM. Do you know which format you downloaded? If you do, I'm happy to download either the VST or the VST3 and test it on my system.

@David-Pook

Blue Cat Audio offers the Flanger as a 32 bit and 64 bit VST. https://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_Flanger/

You need to put the 64 bit DLL-file into the VST folder. Or you need to install the 64 bit vst3-file into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 directory.

In case you did this and it doesn't work it could be that the plugin we blacklisted by Music Maker for some unknown reason.

On your HD go to C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\mm29.

There are 4 files : plugin_scan_state_VST2_x32.scan, plugin_scan_state_VST2_x64.scan , plugin_scan_state_VST3_x32.scan and plugin_scan_state_VST3_x64.scan.

You can open them with Notepad and the you can see which files are blacklisted.

You can also delete those files, because they will be made again on start of MM 2021.

Maybe this will help.

@David-Pook

Hi

Did you install the AAX version of the plugin?

II have installed the 32 bit VST versions and they appear in the Audio effects racks of MMM 2021.
