VPX11 Patch 17.0.3.68 - Bug fixes?

browj2 wrote on 2/12/2020, 8:43 AM

VPX11 Patch 17.0.3.68 is out with no notes. Has anyone seen any notes on what is in this patch?

It appears that the problem with the Store and Store-bought items has been improved, but not totally resolved. It still takes a while to load everything but it seems that one does not have to start, stop, wait and then restart and then wait for Audio and other Store-bought items to load. You just have to wait.

However, if you load a project that has any Store-bought items on the timeline, they will not be found right away and you have to wait about a minute. The dialogue pops up advising that the object cannot be found. Wait a bit, then press on Repeat. The alternative is to start a new project, wait until everything from the Store has been loaded and then open the project.

Other than that, I have not tested much to see if any of the bugs on the list have been corrected. I suspect that they have not.

The fades bug, the Xara bug, and the HitFilm XY coordinates keyframing bug have not been fixed.

Has anyone tested anything else?

Here is the link to the bug list.

Hi John.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. No, I can't find any info on what changes have been made either.

I concur with your findings re the Audio and Store items now loading much more quickly; I can't verify your findings re projects which have store-bought items being "slow to load" since I don't have any such project readily available to open and test!

Thanks also for posting again the link to your Bugs list; I've recently been doing work for a paying client, which involved the quite extensive use of project markers, normally entered via Ctrl+Enter, and then named. Using the immediately-previous build of VPX I was finding that at least some of these markers were NOT being placed on the timeline, they just didn't appear anywhere at all! In the end , purely for the reasons of needing to create those markers, I transferred the project to MEPP and had no further difficulties in this regard. As a result of this situation I wanted to check your list to see if this was a "general" problem, or something unique to my installation so have now downloaded it.

Running a very quick, and short, test of the new build, this seems to no longer be the case. (I confess I haven't checked the whole Bugs document to see if it was already noted.)

Hi

Item 1 in list of fixes 'fixed a crash when opening the aperture menu' should this read 'Open dialog' ?

New bug has been introduced with respect to item 3

'restored correct transparency for decorative element 'Cigar' (2013_cigar_HD.cfx)'

When trying to use this I get the following error message:

Filepath error c:\Users\Public\Documents\Magix\Common\Videocontent\Video deluxe Premium\OverlayFX\Fun\2013_cigar_HD_ani.mxv not found.

The filepath is incorrect, and the MXV file does not exist in C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Video Pro X\OverlayFX\Fun

If Movie Edit Pro is installed the MXV does exist in C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Edit Pro Premium\OverlayFX\Fun

Cannot test the rest of the items as I am working from my lap top.

Thanks for the link. We expected more fixes. There are some problems dating back more than 1 year.

@emmrecs

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for taking a look.

I have not run into your problem of Project Markers disappearing. I usually don't gave many and they always seem to show up. Was this a problem creating them or do they disappear afterwards?

One update is the Preview images for VideoEffects\BackgroundEffects. I have some but not all. I have some that I may have copied in from old versions, like back01/02/03 etc. Do you now have preview images for everything under Backgrounds?

Edit: I just did a search and noted that I may have copied these in from PhotosStory 2013 and I don't have the icons.

I just tested a small project with 14 project markers, saved, closed VPX, restarted, opened project and the markers were still there.

Just out of curiosity, did you press Enter after typing the text? I had some that disappeared because I clicked elsewhere before pressing Enter.

For the Store-bought stuff, I just added 1 simple purchased object to a project, closed and reopened it (or maybe I rebooted) and I got the dialogue box indicating that the object could not be found. I waited a bit and tried repeat several times until it finally came up.

Updated draft bug list for review before I submit it to Magix:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/4m2f8bugphvos14/vpx%2011%20bug%20list%20patch%2068%20r12%20draft.pdf?dl=0

Note the change to Bug 30 and the new video:

Also, #40-42 added.

If anyone sees anything on the list that has been fixed or any problems not on the list, please advise me.

I find it sad that Magix has not reacted better than this.

The Xara problem, in particular, is coming up on 2 years since it last worked properly.

Thanks,
John

@browj2 I think #10 is an issue with Samplitude Pro X 4 too. I grabbed a demo of VPX a while ago and was trying to share a mixdown between the two, and exactly as you describe, VPX would open, and nothing would appear.

As for the Xara bug, didn't you report some time ago that MAGIX wouldn't be supporting that going forward? Did you ever get clarification on that, or is the fact that they haven't fixed it for 2 years our answer?

browj2 wrote on 3/23/2020, 3:58 PM

@toddbooster

Hi Todd,

Thanks for confirming about Samplitude Pro X 4.

As for Xara, they actually fixed the first problem when VPX11 came out, but created a second problem with disappearing content. At least there is a workaround. No other word back from Magix except an acknowledgement of the bug list.

The last patch came out on Feb. 12 without addressing many, if any, of the issues on the bug list. I have regularly updated and given this list to Magix. Note that some of the bugs are now 2 years old. I expect better.

Update Service: We are supposed to get new features several times per year. The latest version of VPX(11) came out in June of last year, if I recall correctly. Some new features were issued in September and November, nothing since, about 7 months later. There should have been at least one more release of new features for version 11, but we have received nothing. My Update Service expires tomorrow, leaving me with a long list of bugs.

COVID notwithstanding, we should have received some new features and some bug patches by March.

To be fair, Magix should extend the Update Service date by 6 months to compensate for their lack service, and they should at least fix some of the bugs before the next version comes out.

Hi John.

Not sure if this is relevant to the question of bugs and updates, but this morning, when I first opened VPX I was asked to install an update to the Update Service "so that (I) can receive the next update to the program" (or words to that effect).

VPX12???
