Hi Trensharo

Chroma Keying is a compositing effect. Like blending tracks on the NLE timeline. Not the same thing.

From Magix Help files:- "This section contains the effects for chroma keying used to mix together two videos into a foreground and background." So I was not wrong!

I do know what you mean though and was just being a little mischievous. I can see that grouping the audio tracks separately as in other NLE's could be helpful but I think I am with JCB on the top to bottom ordering.

And....... you can mix the two video tracks by varying the brightness using the downward arrow handles at the top middle of the video clip......

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroma_key

Chroma key compositing, or chroma keying, is a visual effects/post-production technique for compositing (layering) two images or video streams together based on color hues (chroma range).

MAGIX using the term "mix" is just a peculiarity of theirs - I'm not opposed to the term, but technically mixing is not concerned with layer order. Compositing is.

Affinity Publisher beta calls "Objects" Layers, when they aren't Layers at all.  Resolve uses some different terminology to other NLEs, as well.  Just something you have to accept, and once the documentation is written and the product has existed for a while... it's hard to change it.

Compositing is Layer-based.  Layer order matters.  This is why NLEs like VEGAS Pro and Premiere Pro support track nesting/grouping... so you can do compositing without being forced to move everything to the top of the stack. You do the compositing within the group, and then the group is treated as one layer on the timeline.

Project nesting serves a similar (but not same) purpose.

Track order is not the biggest problem I have with VPX, right now, and I don't see it ever changing considering how old the product is. It would completely wreck their users. It's just a mildly illogical inconvenience. It would be the only software I'd own that layers top-to-bottom. Nothing else on my machine does, except Audio Editors (where Layer Order only matters for arranger organization).

Using Opacity to blend images/videos is called Alpha Compositing.

This is why VEGAS Pro correctly puts all of this under an aptly named "Compositing Mode" menu.

In any case, the discussion is fun to have, and it's not like MAGIX developers are waiting to chime in to give us some updates on the OP...

@Former user

Hi

It is time to call a halt over the discussion of what is right and wrong in the design of Magix programs, how they relate to others, and terminology used.

As I said in my previous post you have a point of view and opinion, these have been respected by other members who have replied to you discussing how it is with MEP and VPX.

However the topic has deviated well away from the original topic discussion - Bugs in VPX and must get back on track.

Re: EDL export from VPX

I have a half dozen video clips, some mp4 others mts, not all on the same track. A couple of the clips were from the same video file.

First case EDL export options:

For this case - handover of both video and audio, here is the timeline. I put video/audio on several tracks, just to see what would happen. This is not a normal setup where the video tracks would usually be on tracks 1 and 3 at the most. Some of the audio with the video was not mixed down to wave as shown.

Result in Samplitude Pro X3:

Only 1 video shows up in the monitor as Samplitude cannot handle multiple video clips, even if they are in the Arranger. Note that any audio that was not mixed down does not show up.

Next case: Mixdown video, Handover audio

Result in Samplitude Pro X3:

The above shows the entire video, the same audio, no audio where there was no mixdown.

As you can see, I had no problem importing the EDL made by VPX into Samplitude Pro X3.

Wonder if the problem is in Samplitude X4 (I never had X3).

I could not get the EDL in regardless of options .The DAW just crashes.

Hi John

Another bug to add to the list!

A transition length error occurs when deleting multiple images/clips - the new transition is 2x the set value when you delete 2 or more consecutive objects, as shown below, tested with several transitions and occurs in both MEP and VPX.

Thanks
