In the past this problem was resolved by re-installing Quicktime.

However the last time I had this the problem was a process called MAGIX QTM Reader

Thanks Andy. i had a reply from Magix support who suggested the following, which did the trick. I must admit I'm surprised the program doesn't just detect whether or not your hardware needs this setting though!

"Since we use a new technology for hardware encoding during playback in our latest programs and have activated this feature by default, older graphic cards may have problems with it.

This is probably the case with you. But you can solve this problem by just deactivating this feature via "File > Settings > Program..." Then open the "Import/Export" tab and uncheck "Hardware acceleration for playback if possible"
