Video effects not applying to an object

I can only assume I am just missing something here as I did a search and came up with no one else having my same problem, so here goes. I'm building a combo video/picture video for my Mom's birthday party next week. I have a section of a video clip I have trimmed on both ends. I removed the soundtrack and now i want to apply the B&W to Color effect on the clip. Every time I drag the effect onto the selected video object, I get a dialog box that tells me I have to drag the effect onto the clip. No matter what I do, it will not apply that effect on the selected object. I would assume this procedure is basic and straightforward, so can some kind soul tell me what the heck I'm not seeing? Thanks in advance! MovieEditProMXPlus

Bruce,

I'm assuming that the B/W to color effect works OK on other objects (stills and movie clips)?

I can't see how the trimming or the removal of the audio are relevant.

Have you repeated that series of operations in a fresh project? And with a different clip?

Do other effects (2 color change, Cold slide, etc) work OK? Perhaps that clip has become corrupted or in some way unacceptable. Try a simple Explorer copy. Or a conversion.

Well Terry, as I have come to expect, after a save and reboot, the clip works fine with the effect. I'm glad it works, but it leaves me with an unanswered question. Was it my system (Win7, i5, 4gb Ram) or was it an unstable MEP? I suppose time will tell. I have to express frustration with MEP, in that it exhibits so much negative unstable behavior, things that slow down my progress. Some I will readily admit comes from my unfamiliarity with MEP, but some comes from the fact that it requires brute force to achieve a lot of what I'm trying to do, whereas I was used to elegance previously. (Media studio Pro 8) In fairness, it took MSP a little time to get there as well. One feature I would like to make a push for is one MSP had called "find empty time slot". With a simple mousestroke, you could locate and eliminate empty time on the timeline. I know that MEP finds it, but eliminating it requires that brute force I refer to. Being of German ancestery, I should understand that though:) Thanks for your help!
