video can't be played when saved

Doug-Rosenvinge wrote on 8/13/2021, 5:21 PM

I put together a 4 minute video of some camcorder clips and still pics, with a background music track. In Video Easy it plays fine but when I finish and save the project the final MP4 can't be played. I have tried to save the project in several resolutions but all fail. Any ideas?

Hi

. . . . save the project the final MP4 can't be played . . . .

How are you 'saving' the MP4? Please give more details on the steps you are taking.

Hi John.

I looked at a video of how Video easy exports on YouTube. They only have preset options depending on whether they want to produce a DVD, or a file for export to YouTube or to disk. There are no coding options. Go to 11:25.

Hi John,

As Ray pointed out, there are very few options. I have tried saving files to the computer as MPEG4, MP2 and Windows media format. Resolutions in full HD or less. I put together a movie from clips and stills and it will play in the preview in Video Easy. When I go to save the final file on computer as an MPEG4 video they often crash the program. By this I mean the whole program disappears from my screen. If I save the same movie/project using the Windows Media Video setting the movie may save correctly, if it doesn't I get an error message but the software does not crash. The MPEG4 file created can't be played.

My work around has been to use Any Video Converter to convert the original clip to another format. Sometimes this works, sometimes not. When I can't find a good solution, my last resort is to use Any Video Converter to combine clips into a larger clip. I have even resorted to using a clip and opening intro from Video Easy and saving that as a movie, and then using that with Any Video Converter to combine other segments into a final movie. Not an easy or great solution. I thought of upgrading software but given my experience with Video Easy I don't know that a magix product is a good fit. I like Video Easy a lot when it works. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is this a codec issue?

Thank you,Doug Rosenvinge

Hi Doug.

Do your original video files come from a smartphone by any chance? If so which one?

Hi Ray,

My original videos come from my Panasonic HD video camera, HC-v770. Original clips are saved either as MP4 or AVCHD 1080p. I have mostly used MP4 but have had issues with both formats in Video Easy.

Hi Doug.

According to the Panasonic website that camera can record AVCHD: Dolby Digital (5.1ch / 2ch).

If any of the recordings have been set to record 5.1 sound, that could cause the crashes as that function has been withdrawn from virtually all editing packages since Adobe Premier got into an as of yet unresolved court battle with Dolby Labs. It may not be that but they are discrete sound channels that need to be separated and mixed to two channels and there is no longer a Dolby based 5.1 surround sound encoder in any of the current Magix video editing products. You could try converting those files (if they are 5.1 surround) in Handbrake if that is possible before editing. I haven't got any cameras with 5.1 sound so have never had to try.

To see if any files are recorded in 5.1 surround sound if you are not sure use MediaInfo and look at the Text View for all of the recordings data.

If it is not that then I am at a loss as to what is happening and we may need more information on your system such as driver version for your nvidia card available C: drive space etc.

Ray.

Ray,

My camera was set to 5.1. I have now set it to 2 channel. I will see how that works after Christmas. Thank you for your suggestion.

Ray,

I tried the video editor/movie maker in Windows today. All of the clips that would not work with Video Easy processed properly. Processing time was much faster at the same 1080p MP4 settings that I prefer. So the problem I am having with Video Easy doesn't seem related to my system, unless Microsoft has built into Windows some capabilities not available to developers outside of MS.

@Doug-Rosenvinge

Thanks for that information. I wasn't aware and it is possible. It was never a system problem, it is a licence problem from whoever pays Dolby Labs for it's use. Licences have been withdrawn or not renewed by Dolby Labs accusing Adobe (and possibly others I don't know about) about giving inaccurate numbers of users, thus they are possibly paying less to Dolby Labs than they should do.
