Very old licenses and "Magix Creation" logo

Eusebio-Rufian-Zilbermann wrote on 10/28/2021, 1:22 PM

I have some "ancient" Magix CDs (MMM 5, MMM v2000, Live Act Pool) that have soundpools in them. The license file specifies:

USE OF ALL SOUND FILES EXCEPT THE FILES ON THE ARTISTPOOL CD ROMs
All created works can be used royalty-free for commercial or personal purposes under the condition that the works visibly contain the reference "MAGIX CREATION". You will find the logo "MAGIX CREATION" on our website http://www.magix.com. If you do not have internet access, call MAGIX and  you'll receive the logo by mail.

The MAGIX website does not seem to provide a "MAGIX CREATION" logo anymore. Any idea if this logo requirement "officially" changed at some point? (for the older licenses I mean, I know that newer licenses don't have this)

Hi

The requirement for the Magix logo was dropped many years ago when the use of Soundpool for commercial use required the purchase of a Commercial licence.

AFAIK, the Terms and Conditions for the old soundpools are still valid, however the logo is not available therefore, in theory, they cannot be used for commercial use.

There is also the question of whether they would work in the modern version(s) of Music Maker - maybe - you would have to test this.

I would suggest you contact Magix by email to: infoservice@magix.net

They can be still used commercially if it is listed in the EULA since you own the original CDs. This was possible with the Soundpools up to Music Maker 16 and Soundpool Collection 16. Since version 17 separate commercial licenses were introduced. The old logo isn't necessary anymore.

But the following Soundpools CANNOT be used commercially:

Techno Trance Vol. 1
Rock Pop Vol. 1
Rock Pop Vol. 2
Funny Vocals
Cool Vocals
