Using Vegas Pro 14 Video effects/plugins in MEP 21

Chappers wrote on 4/11/2023, 7:28 AM

Hi, i've recently upgraded to MEP 21 from Vegas Pro 14 and I'd like to use the video effects in VP14 in MEP21 however when i try to search for the plugins they dont come up when i direct it to VP14 VFX location.

I couldn't find much information online about it, other than i noticed that VP uses .OFX and MEP uses .IFX file extensions, any help would be greatly appreciated.

@Chappers Hi & Uh? I think you're misunderstanding something or have written this post incorrectly,

Plugins are separate 'add-on' programs that are added to your editing program, they're 'plugged in' to the host, in this case the host is either VP14 or MEP21.

Vegas Pro & MEP are totally different programs, any OFX plugins that you have on your PC & had showing in VP will prob show in MEP but will work to a degree, some will work better than others,

The effects built into VP won't transfer over to MEP, you can't just find the files & expect them to work in a different program, that's why you can't find any info online, .

@Chappers

Hi

In addition to @Former user's comment, which version of Movie Edit Pro (MEP) do you mean MEP 2021 or v21.x.x.xxx ie MEP 2022 and which edition Basic, Plus or Premium?

Hi both thanks for your replies,

@Former user i was hoping for the latter "effects built into VP won't transfer over to MEP"

i wanted to use the wave / ripple effect from VP in MEP to show a flag animation, but looks like you cant just transfer them over.

@johnebaker it's MEP 2021 Version 20.0.1.80 (UDP3) if that helps

@Chappers Hi, yeah, I don't know if you were caught out by the Magix trap of upgrading your VP14 & thinking you were just getting a new version of Vegas, but what in reality you got was a totally different program of Magix Movie Edit Pro, this was wrong & a bit sneaky of Magiix, a more correct or linear upgrade fromVP14 would've been to Vegas Pro 18, 19, or 20.

There's plugins like NewBlue Stylizers that have an effect called ripple effect, £300 tho, saying that tho sometimes these plugins are gotten dirt cheap included with the purchase/upgrade of Magix, last yr I got NewBlue TotalFX for the price of an MS upgrade, about £60 I think, so shop around or hold on before you buy https://newbluefx.com/products/stylizers/ultimate/

PS just had a look at Magix website, If you upgrade to MS2023 Suite for £32 you get NewBlue Stylizers inc, It's hard to know exactly what's inc in these 'extras' that you get with Magix upgrade packages but NewBlue Stylizers 5 has Ripple & quite a few others https://www.magix.com/gb/video-editing/movie-studio/

Like I say I have NewBlue TotalFX & this is what shows in the FX tree

There's also Wiggle in Stylizers

@Chappers

Hi,

If you really want a proper waving flag effect (and a whole lot more), then try BluffTitler.

In the video below, I used one of my photos on the flag.

I recently found myself in a rather perplexing situation while upgrading my Magix software and thought I'd seek some insights from the community. It appears that during my upgrade process, I encountered an unexpected transition to a different program than what I had anticipated. Instead of receiving an upgraded version of the software I was using, I was redirected to a completely different Magix program. This switch took me by surprise, leaving me a bit confused and feeling like I had been caught off guard.

Hi

. . . . Instead of receiving an upgraded version of the software I was using, I was redirected to a completely different Magix program. This switch took me by surprise, leaving me a bit confused and feeling like I had been caught off guard. . . . .

Was this from a version of Vegas Movie Studio 17, or earlier, to Magix Movie Studio 18 or later.
