Hi Gid.

I'm using the blur and artistic blur from the sharpening tool. It's not as good but doesn't baulk at being used multiple times.

Agreed, this method, trying to blur and use a mask as described does not work for more than one mask, even when disconnecting the mask.

I have been able to use multiple instances of the method I'm using but there is still some cleaning up to do.

I never even tried that way as it has not worked in the past.

Once a topic has gone past the first page, unless Gid answers on the new page I have never been able to get his ID to work nor has the trick of typing out his full avatar address.

When using the @ tag, if you enter the username of a member, who has not posted on the page you are viewing, in full they appear in the list - this was not working for me yesterday, it is working now.

Agreed - duplicating and blurring is, IMHO, the easiest way

Hi.

My problem is not the amount of masks in use for blurring but keeping them all tracking correctly. With say five or sometimes only even two masks traveling at different speeds and positions across the screen, sometimes one will lag for a few frames and the covered area will slip out of position.

This has happened with Gids avatar every time in the past for me whenever a new page has been produced within a topic.

I'm not sure it has any connection with not being able to upload video content of not though.

Well my method seems to be working on the test section I tried out but I would have preferred something a little more subtle.

Will try out the whole project now but it may take some hours.

Which mask are you using or is this a custom one?

Did you tweak the Alpha parameters to get rid of the 'ring edge' seen in the clips.

They are my own masks, png with clear background I may feather the edges as it is a bit harsh at present and the probable cause of the ring. Still experimenting and fine tuning. The good thing is I can't alter things outside of MEP and MEP just goes with it on reloading the project. Swapping masks or anything within a project is easy as you know. Lots of room for adjustments. 👍🏻😎

I am having to tweak the parameters to prevent other parts of the video not masked from causing leak through problems. That I have under control. Still tweaking the project in general. Looking for spelling mistakes, masks not quite covering faces briefly in places, that sort of thing but getting closer to finishing now.

Chapter markers are not keeping modified renaming and reverting back to numbers which is a bit annoying.

I'm just amazed I've not crashed the program with all I've got going on in it.

Export times are still reasonable at just over two hours for 43 minutes at 4K 50fps. On my setup I take that as a win. Suffering a slight amount of moire on some finer details looking at 4K on a 1080p monitor but otherwise all good.

Hi Ray,

You would be better served to get Xara Photo & Graphics Designer and use it from MEP to create and animate multiple masks. There is currently a problem with it (ticket raised) but there is a workaround. The way that you are doing it, I could probably do better in a fraction of the time using Xara.

I need more subtle than your example and the video is more dynamic as the camera is in tracking mode.

I'm just showing the masks by the way, not the blending, with a short section of my timeline.

That's a short clip from a six minute sequence with up to six independent moving masks needed at any one time. The camera is constantly tracking the guide. and at times quite quickly. I'm up to 25 masks for this section so far. There are another four clips that need this treatment as well. The video is just over 40 minutes long.

Your masking is not subtle and is very distracting.

The example that I showed is very basic, one mask is simply a circle, but the other is an irregular shape that gets reshaped over time.

What I showed in the tutorial can be done as shown or by right-clicking the video clip and opening it in Xara and then proceeding as per the above tutorial (I have another tutorial on this). The XAR object with all masks is one object on the timeline. You then need to sandwich it between duplicate video clips, one with the blurring or other effects, as we most often do with masks and Chromakey Alpha.

What you are missing is that the masks done in Xara can be reshaped and they will tween between intervals, so you don't always have to do frame to frame rotoscoping. As what you are trying to hide moves and turns, the shape may change, which is one of the great features of Xara animation and drawing - just modify the shape. All of the masks are in the XAR file back on the timeline or in an exported avi video with transparency. I can have one mask or hundreds in the XAR file, but there is only one object back in MEP.

With PhotoShop, you are creating static masks and resizing them in MEP; one can do the same with Xara or PaintShop Pro or MS Paint. The only reshaping that you can do with a mask in MEP is by squeezing or stretching, not by reshaping.

Can you import your video from the MEP timeline into PhotoShop and create animated masks that change shape, size and location over the duration of the video clip? I doubt it. You are making a static mask and using MEP to do the animation. This becomes very cumbersome when you have a lot of simultaneous masking to do.
