Upon exporting all of my ZOOMS are black on playback

FF22 wrote on 1/31/2025, 11:48 PM

Version shown above. Windows 10

When played back in the editor, the zooms work normally. The image zooms on the area selected. But aftre exporting to mp4, there's a BLACK image that seems to last as long as the underlying zoomed image would take.

I used the program back in Nov without any issues including ZOOMS. I generally use VLC to review the output but also tried using Windows Media Player. Black in both cases?

Ideas?

Thanks

Hi

In the Program settings, Device options, Import, Processing and Export options are all set to CPU, if they are not, set them to CPU and try exporting again.

If that does not work:

  • Which transition(s) are not exporting?

  • What video format, or Export preset, are you using for export and are you making any changes to it?

Thanks for the reply.

The whole movie is about 16 minutes.

Interim report: Rendering has gone from 15 or so minutes to over an hour. If I recall those "cpu" setting were Nvidia (spelling?)

The effect was camera zoom/pan or whatever. I would select an image and select the segment/section to zoom IN on. Then I would change the object's timing to extend it a bit over the normal 4 second display of photos. Nothing I have not done over and over and other videos. I don't recall changing those import/export settings. MP4 output and just accepting what's offered.

As noted, the rendering is taking a while. So this is in interim report.

Edited to add: I opened the preview window as it is rendering. I happened to catch a segment where I zoomed in on faces. The preview shows a zoom effect. Hopefully, that is indicative of the real output movie!

Okay, while I'm waiting... What do those changes to CPU do and, again, I don't recall changing anything since I last made a vacation video where the zooms were not blacked out.

@FF22 Hi, I just tried this in 20+ different ways I could think of without problems, your instructions aren't clear so can you be more specific without 'whatever' being mentioned. Camera zoom/pan & Section are two different effects? Camera zoom/pan extends the keyframes when you later extend the image length, Section keyframes do not..?

  • You can use Bullet points (option at the top of a new comment) to list the procedure as I have done here
  • 'I would select an image' - What is that image, a png or jpg?
  • 'seems to last as long as the underlying zoomed image would take' - What do you mean by 'underlying image' ?
  • Can you post full screenshots of the Movie Studio UI.

  • Can you post full screenshots of the Movie Studio UI.
  • Using Camera/zoom shot. I then change the display time from about 4 seconds per image to 6 or 7 seconds to slow down the zoom so it does not zip through the zoom in only 4 seconds.
  • Most of my images are jpg. A few are short videos. Almost all images are from my Pixel Fold Pro Nine. A few from my friend's Pixel 6. A couple are screen captures of maps from my computer. I don't think any are PNG's.
  • The black/void in the rendered video seems to take about the 6 or 7 seconds that the zoomed image would normally display. Just normal unchanged JPG's show for 4 seconds. Then the void/black shows for 6 or 7 seconds, then the next normal image/photo shows for its 4 seconds. Then when another zoom should occur in the rendered video, again, black/void for its 6 second interval.
  • Again, I'm pretty sure that I did not change any rendering settings since creating my last video in Nov.

And, finally, using the CPU settings John suggested, the rendered video is again showing the zooms!!!

So, while the rendering now takes a lot longer, at least, it is working.

@FF22

Hi

According to your computer specification in your Signature you have:

The changing the Device options to CPU removes any non compatibilty with graphics gards (GPUs) and integrated GPUs, the computer has both. Exports do take longer because the export is not using hardware acceleration.

As using the CPU options worked then the issue is with the Nvidia GTX 750 Ti is the driver up to date the latest version is 572.16, in Windows nomenclature nn.0.15.7216 where nn = 30, 3, or 32 depending on the version od Windows installed.

If the GTX drivers are not up to date, update them and then try exporting with the Device options set to the GTX 750.

If you still get 'black' transitions the Intel Core i5 4690 processor has an integrated GPU (iGPU) the HD4600 - this may be usable by MEP if it is available, however there is a known issue with the latest drivers for this iGPU - see this Intel article.

@FF22 Ok, thanks, like I say I tried several times to try & replicate this, at least once like you mentioned.. The only thing I can think of is your PC, both your CPU & GPU are 10yrs old & your GPU only has 2GB of memory.
